    Default Fruit juice!!!

So I figure I need to start eating more fruit (I hardly ever take in fruit) because my energy level has been so low lately. So, I went and bought a fruit juicer and a shit load of fruit! I've been making some crazy mixes...my favorite juice so far is one I made with one orange and a few strawberries. Another good one has the juice of a carrot, an apple, then of a little peice of ginger. The juice is also so much healthier than bottled juice. And I've also been feeling SO much more energized since I've been doing it!

    i love fresh juices!

when you juice fresh fruit the juice still has all the enzymes. when you buy bottled juice it has been pasterized (heated to kill bacteria) which causes the enzymes to "die" (when heated over 107 degrees) plus theres usually sugar and preservatives added to it.

Just remember that fruit juice does not contain as much fiber as fruit does, and benefiber yourself accordingly.

I don't juice, but I love making smoothies with frozen fruit. That way I keep the fibre as well.

So does anyone actually use the leftover pulp you get from using a juicer? I hate to waste it but I can't think of what to actually do with it...Could you use it to make smoothies or something?

I was in a raw food health class and I think there were a few recipes that called for carrot pulp. I did a search in yahoo and came up with a few but i haven't tried any:

You could also start some kind of compost with all the left overs.

I use a lot of my pulp (carrot, cucumber) for making bread loafs. There is a lot of recipes online. I try not to bake too much...because then I have to eat it I freeze a lot of it.

I just got a Jack La Lanne. It was $100 at Target. I highly recommend it as well.

That's awesome! I've always wanted a juicer, I heard you can incorporate veggies into your fruit juice and not even notice. I like veggies, but I certainly don't get enough of either in my diet. But you notice your energy way up, that's incredible, and a great motivation for me to get more fruit into my diet!

You actually should never mix fruits and veggies, or fruits and anything for that matter. Your body digests different foods differently. Veggies and startches can be mixed as well as veggies and proteins... but never fruits with anything because basically your stomach takes fruits as pre-digested and when you mix fruit with anything it will just rot in your stomach. It takes 20 min to digest melons, 45 min to digest bananas, 1 hours for dried fruits and about 35 min for all other fruits. tomatos and avocados are the only fruits that can be digested along with veggies. (and you should never mix starches and proteins, or proteins and proteins as they are more complex and mess up digestion)

Human brains run on fructos, so eating fruit is the best thing to eat. As for the extra pulp you can add it to the juice and blend it for a second to make a loose smoothie, or if you want it thicker I'd juice some fruit and then cut up the rest and bend it all together. That's what I eat for most of my day until i switch to veggies around dinner time... If anyone is interested in combining food to make it work best for them so they can get the most out of it check out Fit For life. It is seriously a GREAT book. Also using fresh fruit juice to make ice cubes is awesome!!

Not true - it depends on what type of juicer you have. You need a raw juicer in order to not destroy the enzymes. The average juicer is not a raw juicer unfortunatly.

Im STOKED to find that all of the vegetables I really dont like to eat taste good as juice. last night I mixed up apples, carrots, celery, pair, green beans, babt spinach, brocoli stalks, zuchinni and beetroot. it was delicious!

Honestly, I hate most juicers...if someone can reccomend a good one that doesn't involve any "scraping" to get clean I would be super appreciative.

I love fresh juice, but my juicer has got me all butt hurt just thinking about it.

I quite like my Breville Juice Fountain when it comes to cleaning - and the fact that you dont have to cut the fruit up first, hurray! Its not a raw juicer though if thats an issue.
