Default Slow learning at pole tricks

I have been learning very basic pole work since January...I can't even do an invert...and I am finding the slow learning curve to be so frustrating. It takes me so long to learn a move. I see the girls at work that are good on the pole do the flashy moves and it makes me drool. We have a lot of fucking stage time where I work, and the pole is so important.

Is anyone else having a hard time catching on?

I have gotten a hell of a lot stronger, I think my delts are just starting to look unever, a little bigger on my dominante arm. I wish I had the strength to go upside down.

as for the upside down ones, i never actually use my arms to lift me.. i kinda kick upwards- i start with my hands (dominant on top) at my head height on the pole (on my dominant side of my body) and jsut kick up and grab with my feet. im no Alena Downs, but that pretty much only required ab and leg muscles and worked very well with ease. and i know veterans who dont knwo almost any pole tricks.

    Love it!

I was jsut laughing with Chrissie about this stripper pole they installed at my gym.

I tried it and can't do ANYTHING on it and I've been dancing for 5 years and am pretty strong. But it's always been something I just could never get the hang of for some reason.

    You probably do.

It is more a matter of leverage than strength, though the strength will definitely help.

But the most important thing is to believe you can do it, or at least not worry about it, relax, and just have fun--relieving the pressure and making it a lot easier.

But really, I have said it before and I will say it again, you do not really need the pole to be sexy. Several of the top 10-15 dancers I have worked with, out of almost 2,000, never messed with it. It get's the guys' attention, and I admire the tricks a great deal, but it is not necessary to make a lot of money.

So relax and have fun, and you'll probably learn quicker anyway then, thats my advice.

It took me FOREVER to get down a good number of pole tricks... and that had more to do with the pole I bought for my living room and the couple of instructional videos! I know what you mean about some girls just starting and GETTING it! Maybe it's the confidence? THe ONLY upside down one I do is crawling to the top of the pole, crossing my legs (like I'm sitting down), and leaning backwards (using the back of my knee to hold on). Luckily, pole tricks aren't that big of a deal at my club... STILL!

Sunnie...Honestly, I dont think you are progressing slowly at all! I am rather happy to see you toning up the way you are...and not just upper body. You are putting a great amount of work into this and it is showing!

It is a bit frustrating to not be able to attain something you want...NOW...but remember once you have the basics the rest comes with ease! We will start working on invert mounts and see if we can get you up there!!

But really, I have said it before and I will say it again, you do not really need the pole to be sexy.
Absolutely...you dont need the pole to be sexy...it is a personal thing! Some choose to do it, some choose not! But it does increase the enterainment level, and the physical condition of the dancer, without going to the gym!

Bella...that is the cross knee sit and release!

It took me forever to go upside down, months in fact and if im tired i cant do it at all!
I just wasnt even thinkin about it one day and i did it, just dont let it get to you. My friend has been practsing for well over 6 months and she still cant do an invert, shes only just managed to climb the pole.

it takes time to build the strength and flexibility. don't worry.

the first club i worked at was known for having some of the best pole dancers in the business and a quickly learned the ropes. i'm still learning all the time. practice, practice, practice. there are lots of girls out there who don't really use the pole at all and still do very well as dancers. for me, i love doing pole tricks so i make it a priority to "master" the pole. just keep practicing and it'll come.

Don't let yourself get too frustrated. I remember thinking how impossible tricks seemed at first that seem so easy to me now. Once you get it you got it, just keep trying

Took me awhile to get the basic invert, and now it comes easily, and let me tell you, I have absolutely no arm strength. Some things that helped me:

-make sure you throw your head back as soon as your legs kick up
-make sure the pole is under your armpit and up against your body
-practice without shoes first so you can learn how to push off the ground (my arms dont work so I really have to get some momentum)
-lay down on the floor, hold the pole as you would, and practice kicking up that way (it builds the abs and gets you used to the movement)

Don't feel bad, Sunnie. I danced for years and am now retired yet I am still trying to learn new pole tricks. It's a great workout and it feels so awesome when you finally master a move. Just stick with it and you reach your goals.

I want my own pole when I move. Right now I only know one trick. Basically I spend the song twirling around the pole and rubbing my boobs...they tend to like that haha! I can see what you mean about wanting to do the things other girls can do. We have some talented dancers at my club.
