    Default Life Drawing

If the opportunity came up for you to be a model for life drawing art students would you consider it?

No. I go to school with those students! It would be way too awkward for me, plus I know my university doesn't pay crap.

I've looked into it before and yeah, I would do it. They don't really advertise or anything though. Some guys advertise on Craigslist but I don't really trust that situation; I don't want to go over to some random weirdo's house and get naked in private. But I'd be happy to do it for art classes. My friend used to do it and she said it was a great way to force herself to meditate. She never wanted to take time to meditate, but when you have to sit very still for an hour, you might as well just meditate then.

Yes I would. I had an offer recently but unfortunatly its in the wrong city )-:
I have posed as an artists model before (clothed) and I quite like having that time to myself with no-one actually bothering me, lol.

I've done it, though I was fairly broke at the time. I wouldn't bother again unless it was more money.

This sort of thing rarely pays well, but I'd do it for the sake of art. I love seeing how folks draw me!

Same here. We had to make a sculpture of a nude model in college and it was strange seeing how different everyones artwork turned out!

I did it once, at a school in Northern NJ; it was only $100 for 5 hours work (two 10-minute breaks) and it can be VERY difficult to hold the same pose for 20 minutes at a time when you have an incorrugible itch on your nose, but it was a fun experience and I would definitely do it again!

I do this. It's great! Here at my school we start off at $9.50/ hour, but one of my friends who's been doing it for a year and a half now makes $14/hour.

It's nice... you get paid to basically just to lounge around...naked.

I suppose it also helped that I took the class last semester, so I know exactly what goes on in it.

I also think it's hilarious when I occasionally run into people I've modeled for on campus, and especially if they're quiet and shy they'll just get flustered and embarrassed to see you.

I think they like bigger bodies for life drawing, don't they? My ex-husband had an artist friend who used to model for life drawing classes. He was about six and a half feet tall and weighed close to 400 pounds, and had wild curly hair and a wild beard. He LOVED being naked and he got a lot more work than a lot of the other models; evidently the students found him more interesting to draw because of his body shape.

I did it at a senior's centre for $18/hr ...it was interesting, kinda fun, but probably wouldn't again. I held a fucking pose for 1.5 hours. I was so zen!

Curvy women are absolutely gorgeous to draw just the way they bring out a better tone and line. Pitty about the pay though that must suck.

haha that'd be the reason i couldn't do it. if someone drew me where i looked fat i'd probably have a breakdown and not leave the house for a week. i like the idea of it, but i think it'd be putting a whole lot of mental strain on myself for not very much money.

Darcy Foxx you are not fat or over weight. Why say that? I know some people draw differently and seeing yourself drawn differently might make you feel insecure but thats not what you are its their perception.

    Lightbulb Re: Life Drawing

Fine art doesn't always look fine. I'd suggest any model take a good look at the quality of the artist's work before posing. That way, if you look fat in the drawing, it may be because that artist doesn't have the skill to show you accurately. Also, this concept of having people sit for hours is obsolete, now that something called a camera has been invented.
