I don't mean the contraceptive kind either.
My kitchen sponge seems to start smelling bad after only one week of it being new. I have bought so many sponges, of various brands. I don't let it ferment in stagnant water and I squeeze out the excess water after I'm done with it. I "trained" my fiance to do the same. I've even tried spraying it with Lysol to kill bacteria.
But still, it smells so bad!! I can smell the sponge on my hands and on the utensils I eat with, consequently ruining my appetite. Maybe I am just being a crazy pregnant woman but I don't think so.
Anyone have any advice out there?

I think the microwave is easier. I also clean my sponges with antibacterial soap after I use them. Seems to help.

I wish I had a dishwasher. Life would be so much better. I am putting that on a list of must-haves for our next home. By the time I have one, I'm sure all kinds of non-dish objects will be in there.
