    Default Allergies!!!

I am so miserable, I have the worst allergies this year. I went to the doctor and he gave me Flonase, which I can't take because it gives me a blinding headache and an anti histamine, which I can't take because it makes me drowsy. I've been taking Aleve Cold and Sinus everyday (I'm waiting for DEA to stop by my house and search for a meth lab, I buy so much of it) which helps a little bit, however a friend of mine suggested taking an OTC allergy medicine.

My question is sinse I don't react well with certain medicines and I don't want to spend a lot of money buying different drugs, can anyone recommend one that won't make me drowsy and may actually work.

    Thanks!
    Alexis

double doses of OTC Claritin. You could also try saline nasal washes.

Claritin doesn't work on my allergies, but I my generic Allegra! It takes about an hour and a half to kick in but once it does, it works miracles. I only take half a pill once every few days.

believe me I know all about allergies...claritin and allegra work well on nasal/sinus histamine reactions (both are available OTC)

The ultimate allergy medication is Zyrtec though...definitely worth the price (only available by prescription but covers nasal allergies as well as contact and all other sorts!).

    Hope this helps!

Damn, that sucks! It takes a couple of days before it works on me, but once it works it keeps it up. And I don't have to take it every day, only when I get the sniffles.

All I know to say is keep trying different ones until you find one that works on you.

I second the saline nasal wash. The one I use is called SinuCleanse and comes with a little teapot thing that you mix the solution in and then pour through your nose. It takes a little work to get it right, and it's a pain, but it really, really helps. They also sell just saline nasal sprays, which are easier to use and I find that using them on a regular basis really helps too.

Lately I've been waking up congested and sneezing every morning, even with my generic Allegra, but I've found that a hot bath and some hot coffee really help. It's like the steam opens everything up. Mine's congestion though, which is different from drip. But you could try?

I had to take double Allegra today AND Afrin AND Advil. Yeah, I know Afrin is bad, but allergies are awful here right now and I just couldn't handle it. The sinus pressure was so bad that I couldn't keep my eyes open. This morning, the sinus pocket under my left eye got really swollen AGAIN and I had to skip a breakfast meeting. I'm all out of Nasacort too, boo....sucks

I second this, even though I find that it makes you drowsy, I take it every night so the next day I feel fine. Maybe you could try taking your current allergy pills the night before and see if you are drowsy the next day.

Its been the rainiest spring in Austin on record. Now EVERYTHING is blooming plus the mold. Sure, the city looks gorgeous and the wildflowers are still blooming. But I've felt like arse ALL day!
