Default How To Spend Down Time

    Stolen from Susan Wayward:
This is probably deserving of its own topic -- how to take that downtime and not let it drive you crazy. I've worked at clubs where you had to arrive by a certain time knowing already that you would be doing nothing for hours before the crowd actually arrived, so I'm good at amusing myself and having something productive to do so I don't feel like my time is wasted.

I actually reserve my energy during this time. i try to remain in a positive frame of mind, will laugh and joke around with a few ppl if they are there, or i will go "shop" in the dressing room- our housemom sells outifts. i rarely buy but i can def try on and let it make me feel sexy and ready to make money. I have tried but found that the

following did NOT work for me:
-reading- i get really into book and am not social enough when custys come in.
-homework- i don't put enough into what i am doing (homework wise) and it totally removes me from the money-making mindset.
-talking on the phone- esp with a boyfriend- (i dont even try it with my bf now because of prior experiences with ex.) makes me wish i was with him or sometimes it causes me to have issues in my head because of a fight before, or because i dont hear what i need etc
-playing a video game (Emily did this for a while)- when customers come in, and you get busy you have no place to put it and you need to watch it like a hawk. but this was the best result of the things listed.

    Love it!

This is a awesome topic as I'm having this exact problem at this very moment with my current club. I am meant to be out on the floor by 7.30pm and I can honestly tell you that I tend to not get my first dance til around 10pm or later every Monday and Wednesday as this is the general time it can start to get 'busy' as such.

Other dancers can get dances before this time however overall the money doesn't get spent on the dancers any earlier than 9.00pm IMO majority of the time.

So that is an hour and a half that I have NOTHING to do when I am ready to work and hustle. So by the time the crowds do come around I find that I have a hard time getting started since I have had no momentum (and the club generally as well) by that 'busy' time...........

I also HAVE to be out on the floor most of the time. I'm not allowed in the dressing room unless I have been given permission in a way and I have to speak to some patrons (even if there aren't that many and they are all definately lookers/drinkers).... so what to do?

    I'm stumped.

I really want to start later on those nights yet I don't think I will be able to get permission to do so as they need girls to start at that time. I always do well on Saturday when I start after 9pm at the club as I arrive at work ready to work not ready to sit on my ass and do free stage shows.

I don't really have an answer for you - I usually just grab a drink and try to conserve my energy, if I make it in that early. Probably not the answer you are looking for! Maybe try bringing in a few fluffy magazines (by fluffy, I mean US Weekly, People, Cosmo, etc) or load your ipod up with a movie or some funny podcasts. If you are stuck on the floor, IDK, try to become friendlier with waitresses and hosts so they will hopefully hook you up later...?

Chrissy, I've made the same mistakes with that list of "no's"! I'll bring easy homework that's basically busy work (if I have any) occassionally. Mostly I start in on my energy drink and talk to a couple of girls or club regulars to get myself into character. It usually takes me a couple of hours to completely transform anyways.

I practice on the pole if we're allowed. Otherwise, I like to just kinda walk from place to place, text message, gossip with the girls. I also try not to read or play Tetris on my phone like I used to, because it makes me way too distracted when customers do come in. Also, around here there are usually one or two guys worth talking to at any given time. If there is literally no one there for hours, I usually get fed up with the club.

I do yoga/crunches in the dressing room.
I try to make friends with a new girl.
    I polish my fingers/toes.
I do kegels. Lots and lots and lots of kegels.

i've had my experience w/those lists of "no's," too. now i refuse to talk to my bf unless it's an emergency while at the club or heading into the club. also, i don't even attempt to do homework, unless i'm expecting an off night and just came in to pick up a shift to make some play cash for whatever reason.

what i find to work is what some of you all mentioned: talking to people to get into my character. perhaps some of you all don't need to do this, but i def do. of course, it can be detrimental if you happen to talk to an asshole that ruins your whole night, but that's actually never happened to me.

My problem is that I am ready to go and work as soon as hit the floor. I don't need prep time to warm up into character anymore. The slow starts shit me. I really wish I could do something other than having to talk to non-spenders and other girls really.....

I'm going to take in my show hoop tonight and practice some hooping.

I bring a book of short stories (you finish the whole story that way)

Pack dinner and eat when I get there. Makes me happy and gives me something to do.

Call friends to make plans for tomorrow or soon.... It makes me feel all happy with something to look forward to!

    Paint my nails/toes

    Draw

    Stretch

Play with my hair or makeup

Sit at the bar and talk to the waitresses/ bartender. They have less drama then the other dancers

    Talk to the door girl

    Look in the mirror

I did take my hoop in to work (my show hoop not my practice one) last night. It was slow most of the night so I felt 'safe' enough to practice my tricks on stage that night and in the main lap dance area at various points.

    VERY GLAD I DID IT

I will take my practice hoop in to work next time as all the dropping of my show hoop has damaged it a bit whereas I don't mind damaging my practice hoop. I don't mind if it looks ratty. I want my show hoop to last

Yeah, reading is bad. Every few months I forget and do it anyways... last time I couldn't stop till I finished the WHOLE book and I was in the dressing room all night! Even crocheting is way too distracting.

I think of it as a pamper myself time. Get a froo froo drink (okay, to me cranberry and sprite is froo froo LOL) and find a nice place to sit and watch everything. Or call another stripper. Or re-do your toenails. Kegels are awesome.

In late September/early October when it was DEAD DEAD DEAD, I bought the math review book for the GRE by arco.

I did math exercises many a night.

I got a 710 on the math section of the GRE (out of 800).

It was a VERY productive use of my time...teehee
