I'm a lil' worried about the foster home too. Its not your fault tho!!

yeah, when we go to the vet tomorrow he's getting totally checked out. he still isn't coming out, it's going to be interesting trying to get him out tomorrow...![]()

Give yourself a bit of time to catch him. Remember, animals can pick up on emotions even if they can't understand the words you are using, so try to remain as calm as possible even if your first capture attempt doesn't work.
The vet will hopefully be able to advise you, but you have already gotten some great advice here.
Odds are he will always be a shy kitty, but they can be so sweet when they do open up and trust you!

Just wanted to add...when you go to catch him for his vet appointment, it might be obvious, I don't know, but don't call him/use his name or anything...if possible, just calmly and quietly snatch him up, or perhaps corral him into a carrier... It'll be better for later on so he doesn't relate you calling his name/talking to him with getting locked into a carrier and heading off to the vet.

so, to update...
getting him out to go to the vet was AWFUL. my furniture was moved all over the room and if anybody saw me they wouldve laughed probably. but the vet said he's super healthy, he got shots and retested and he's good to go
my mom has been spending a lot of time with him while im at work, and now he'll let us take him out and hold him and he purrs all the time. he wont *stay* out, if you take him out sometimes he'll sit for a half hour then go hide again, and you have to take him out, but he's letting us take him out. he'll also sit on my lap or with me without being held after i take him out. im so happy!
he's getting nutered on thursday, so hopefully he'll be happier after that, too. its easy to find him and get him out because im at my parents and he's being shut in my bedroom all the time, and we moved or blocked anything he could get under. im not sure how it'll be when we get back to my apartment, but we have to stay here now because the vet is here and that way he gets human contact while im at work so hopefully he'll get used to it.
thank you guys soooo freaking much for all your help!
I'm glad your kitty is doing so well and is so happy. As far as neutering, none of my cats acted like anything had happened. Has kitty told you his name yet?

That's fucking great! Before I was a bit worried (though not too much since I had a similar kitty). I felt bad for you because you were obviously at a total loss and were very worried.
Now I'm jealous, lol! I want a kitty...

Glad he came up healthy, phew!
If you have time though, you still might have a talk with the foster's org, because I just find it ridiculous you weren't provided with vet records when you got him. Even if she's not scamming them, they should be made aware that she's not socializing her charges sufficiently. Hopefully not because she's a dirtbag, she may just have taken in more animals than she can properly tend- then it's their place to suggest she cut back and save another person your difficulties.

well, i didnt go through an ogranization. im sure *she* does, but we found an ad on our dog's vet's bulletin board. so im not sure what we can do about that. she just gave him to me, no charge or anything. i just want to forget about how rotten she was! im not sure if there would be a way to tell anybody.
his name is jasper. sorry, i forgot to mention that before.
Yay Im so glad jasper is coming out of his shell! You will be a great mama.

jasper is a great name for a cat. now i want to see the pictures!

I'm so happy for you!!That's awesome that he's purring on your lap. You're a good mommy & he finally realized that. So cute!

i'll put pictures up soon! im an idiot and i dont know how to get them from my phone to the computer haha.. and i left the cord for my camera to the computer at my apartment. boo.

ok, me and jasper are back at my apartment. i blocked off my dresser with towels so he cant go back there, and i did the best i could to block my bed with pillows and things but i'm afraid he'll get under them! i'm scared now that we're back here and he can go to his hiding place, he will again. hes letting me hold him and everything but hes tried to go under the pillows already. right now hes sitting on my lap but if i put him on the floor i know he'd try to hide. boo.
edit: i have pictures now![]()

Relax...he's just a shy kitty. But if he's purring when you hold and pet him, you have nothing to worry about.
My cat, as I said before, would never sit in my lap at first. If I picked her up and put her there, she would jump down immediately. Finally I would hold her there gently (you don't want to force it as it just scares them), and feed her kitty treats. After a month or two of that, she'd jump up there when I called her and patted my hand there, trust me!
As far as wanting to hide--that's actually a healthy cat thing--they love finding little lairs and dens that no one can get at, where they feel snug and comfortable.
If he's shy he'll want to stay there longer, and be more reluctant to leave, though. You could try arranging for a very comfortable little kitty hidey spot, complete with a blanket and kitty treats, maybe--one that you can get at if vitally necessary. They tend to love boxes, so maybe a box with a blanket in it in the corner behind a chair or something. If you want to get him out of there approach slowly and calmly, saying his name very quietly, that way you aren't violating his sense of security there.
But if he has been purring and happy when you hold and pet him, he will want more, trust me. Maybe try being hard to get, lol.
He really looks like a perfectly healthy and content little kitty, especially in the first picture. I am so jealous.

haha, i think he looks mean in pictures! im just sad because all week at my parents there wasnt anyplace he could hide that i couldnt get to him and pick him up and pet him so he'd get used to me. i had a week of a snuggly kitty and now he's back to hiding where i cant reach him! tomorrow i'm going to the pet store though to get some kitty climbing things (i dont know how to describe them, you know though.. the scratching post ones with like the compartments in them so they can hide and play). im a little concerned because he just got neutered and declawed and he has to have medicine twice a day and i cant reach him! hopefully tomorrow morning he'll come out so i can give it to him, he already got it tonight.
He looks a lot like my Micro.
Everything will be fine now. He purrs when you hold him, so he is a happy cat. He just likes his old den because he feels safe and comfortable there. Don't worry about it.

I have a cat that I got from the Humane Society when he was already an adult. I spent weeks lying on the floor a few feet away from where he was hiding before he finally crept out to sniff at me. It took weeks after that for me to be able to touch and pet him without tearing up my arms with his claws.
Now, he can't get enought love. He follows me around rubbing himself on my legs and trying to block the computer screen.
He was a poor abused kitty when I got him and now he's my lil cuddlebug.
I think your kitty will come around, especially since you seem to have been so sweet and patient with him. Don't worry about wrassling him out of his hiding place to medicate him though. Sometimes kitties need tough love too!

Please, you are fucking killing me here, lol...
I miss my kitty! She was very shy too, but what a sweetheart.
Britt: I know cats--trust me, the first picture is that of a happy kitty, there's no doubt about it. He's just being cool about it. They don't sit like that if they are stressing. You are doing fine. The second one, he is wondering what you are up to with that stupid clicking box thing again, when he is trying to take an important nap.

Djoser: I swear the shy kitties break my heart, make me fall in love, and tear down my defenses more than the friendly ones. Yup, I tear up just thinking about my baby. Sounds like ya need some pussy! Do you not have any kitties now? Maybe the place you live won't let you? If so, my kitty sends you purrs and love!

Yeah, I got some pussy a while back (see below), but I think I'm due again...

I like the shy ones, too--but these days, in my present situation, I've been going for the brazen, slutty kitties, since I don't have time to coax out the shy ones too often.

My cat was hiding under my bed until I bought him a scrathpad filled with catnip. Cats LOVE catnip. Maybe see if this will help. Also, cats love a high place that is comfortable where they can observe what is going on.

djoser, you so need a cat. i expect to hear that you've gotten one soon!![]()
i got some toys with catnip, but he cant have it right now because he's on medicine because he got declawed. no scratching post, either, because his paws still hurt. i wasn't gonna declaw him, but when we were at my parents, he went under the bed, tore a hole in my box spring, and climbed up in there to hide. i mightve posted about that already.. but i didnt want him getting stuck up there if he did it to my bed here, so thats why i did it.
Whoa, after all of that initial trauma, you had him DE-CLAWED?!? Wow, just wow. Cats won't get stuck, they'll find a way out. I'm glad he's feeling better though. Its not my cat or my life, so I'm not going to lecture you....
