Default I can't get my hair clean!

I tried searching but couldn't find anything...I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but whenever I work for at least the next 2 days, my hair STINKS. It smells of cigarette smoke and the smoke machine and whatever other crap the club smells like. I can shampoo, rinse, shampoo, rinse, and it doesn't get rid of the smell. It takes at least 2 days of washing my hair to get rid of most of the smell. Even last weekend, I had swimming the day after work, and while I wear a swimming cap, water still manages to get to my hair, and despite the fact the rest of me reeked like chlorine even after the shower, my hair still stank like the club!

I use good shampoo and hair products, I only use Redken, and I wash my hair well, and frequently because I sweat so much when I go to the gym.

Anyone have any tips on how to get rid of the smell? Or reasons for why the smell sticks around for so long?! If I fall asleep with my hair on my face I wake up in the middle of the night feeling nauseous as I can't stand cigarettes...

Use dish detergent occasionally- it is harsh but will strip your hair of build-up & you can deep condition afterwards.

Maybe if you used a flat iron to seal a leave-in conditioner into your hair cuticle, the smell would stick to the conditioner & not the hair & thus wash out easily. (My sister smokes cigarettes but does this to her hair & she always smells like a cloud of perfume, not stale cigs.)

i rinse my hair with apple cider vinegar every time i wash it and my hair never smells like vinegar. even though vinegar has a strong scent, it seems to evaporate quickly, and it neutralizers other odors in the process.

i think i remember someone else saying they actually spray their hair with diluted vinager (maybe 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water) between washings to get rid of other smells...

This is a fantastic trick! Inexpensive and it works!

Also, adding a little baking soda to your shampoo makes an instant clarifying shampoo... but the appl cider vinegar rinse works better IMO.

Try shampooing with a shampoo that takes impurities (such as harsh minerals, cholrine, and product build up) out. The vinegar trick sounds good - vinegar does do wonders for a lot of things.

I wonder if this is a hard water/soft water issue because wash, rinse, repeat really should do the trick. Do you have hard water where you live? Or maybe a showerhead that just doesn't spray hard enough to get all the grime out? Maybe a new showerhead is in order.

Reminds me one that one episode of Seinfeld where they got low-flow showerheads installed and everyone had bad hair. lol

I'm so sorry...that really sucks. My club is non-smoking but the girls still do it in the dressing room so all my clothes hanging up get smoked out too. I don't know what your hair looks like, or if this would be abnormal at your club- but you could consider wearing a Fall. You pull your bangs out and style the front to look natural and all of the wig hair matches your color and flows down the back. It holds on with little combs and would keep your hair smelling shower fresh while the synthetic gets smokey.

Thanks for all the suggestions girls, I think I'll try the apple cider vinegar trick - if it doesn't work, I'll just drink it, haha.

Zabrina I don't think it's a shower head issue because it doesn't matter what shower I use...even if I use the gym showers which are super powerful (the kind that can hurt you unless you have the water down reallllllly low!) the smell still stays. I don't think the water here is hard either - my dad lived in a small rural town which had hard water and I remember what that was like, but I can build up a lather here so I'm not sure it's that. Maybe my hairspray is helping to seal in the smell or something, but I thought even if I'm scrubbing that out the smell should go.
