... thought it was cocoa butter supposed to help with stretch marks
No no luck here...I just conceal mine with dermablend
shea butter and coconut oil are both very nourishing for the skin.. stretch marks are damaged skin ..or well scars from damaged skin.. i still got the stretch mark but havent seriously tried to get rid of them.. ive heard its a twice daily ritual you gotta do ..dry brush and nourishing lotion like those two.. and there are other things like caffeine ect... I think if you got in the habit of using good shea butter your skin can only look better.. id give it a few months ..you "should" look better than if you just slathered otc lotions and potions

this is my stretchmarkroutine
I added the shea butter and wanted to know if it's any good.
-Mix st.Ives apricot scrub, aloe vera gel, and a few drops of safflower oil together.
-After i soften my skin in the shower and apply a thin layer of the mix to the area that im treating (my ass lol).
-Then I take a wooden massager and massage over the scrub in small circles, while only apply pressure to the skin not muscle.
-I do this for 3 to 4 min each cheek and then I take a loofah and polish the skin in circles for another min or 2.
-I rinse and apply st.ives collagen elastin lotion mixed equally with aloe vera gel.
-In the morning I apply shea butter
I think this is the routine on stretchmarkcure.com.Your suppose to buy it but someone posted it on a forum and I stole it lol
If anyone is interested in the full instructions let me know

Please PM me the instructions. Also, I purchased some pure shea butter and it's done wonders to soothe my dry skin.
Some Douchebag: "[Pimp C] 12:43 am: its true we got to stick together the black people on SW CK you is teh condoleeza of SW"

Mederma works great! I've been using it and it doesn't get rid of your stretchmarks but it helps with the appearance. It fades and lightens.

oh yeah don't use the Mederma before you go to work becase it gets flakey and kind of peels. I use it when I go to bed and wash it out when I shower. I used it for a month and noticed a big difference. It also lightened and smoothed out an old scar I couldn't get rid of that I've had for 4 years
I'm sure it lightens them (tanning helps to hide them, also). I thought shea butter was supposed to PREVENT them... but that could be something else?
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

I'm not sure about shea butter but I know a combo of vitamin E oil and aloe vera is amazing. I haven't had kids yet but my mom had my youngest brother a few years ago at 41 and she slathered that stuff on several times a day and has absolutely zero stretch marks on her stomach. She was big as a house too. I'm thinking that only prevented them though. I'm not sure if this will help treat them after the fact though.
After I had my first baby I marched my ass to the doctor and asked for some retin-A. I did not get rid of the strechmarks, but it did shrink them DRASTICALLY. (it made my strechmarks less deep and more narrow) Retin-A (retinol) is really about the only thing that works on strechmarks because it penetrates the epidermis. No other lotion can do that. Everything else only works on the surface layer of your skin.
Retin-A produces rapid cell turnover. It promotes collagen production. Look it up online. When using Retin-A for strechmarks, you need to get the strongest dose available. There are different strenghts of it. Also it will only work if you use it when your strechmarks are new.
Also, I use Retin-A on my face (the lowest strenght). It firms the skin, it clarifies and shrinks wrinkles. When I was in school my teacher, an RN, confirmed what I allready knew about retinol and said that all beauty creams are bullshit. They only help with the appearance and the surface layer of your skin.
Retinol is only available by prescription in the US. I get mine from Mexico.
There is no way to prevent strechmarks. It is in a persons genes and gaining too much weight will determine wether or not you get strechmarks. I did not gain as much weight with this pregnancy as I did my first and I did not get any new strechmarks. (THANK GOD).

100% shea butter worked for me
The thing I know about stretch marks (or so I was told by and aesthetician) is they are scars from the inside of your skin. So applying lotion on the outside wont really do much. It can soften them, make them LESS visible, but it wont take them away.
I do use shea butter, and cocoa sometimes too. It makes them softer. And that's okay by me.
As for this Retin-A thing...you say only on new stretch marks? Any idea if it will help with older ones at all? It makes sense to try it, Retin-A does penetrate the epidermis, and is pretty strong stuff. Makes your skin very sensetive to light and other things though, careful with that.
I am not to sure about older strechmarks. It would be worth looking into. You are right about retinol making you more sensitive to sunlight. Also, to whoever posted about tanning to hide strechmarks, tanning does hide them. When your strechmarks are new (same with scars) you can actually make them more noticable by tanning them. So be careful. Tip from my friend who owns a tanning salon told me to use lipbalm with a high spf factor so that you don't turn scars brown. I would cover up new strechmarks with a self tanner until they fade on their own. Then it is safe to tan them. Wish I wasn't such an expert on strechmarks. LOL. That's what I get for thinking that being pregnant means eating whatever the hell you want.
It's funny, when I tan, my skin turns golden, my stretch marks stay white. The ones on my tummy at least. I have to be very careful about how dark I get, it's a fine line. Once I have my body the way I want it, I wont worry so much about tanning, since mine seem to blend better when I'm slightly on the fair side.
I will check out the retin-A stuff then!

I was thinking about giving outdoor tanning a try,to hide my stretchmarks but im scared to do so.Some say it helps hide old stretchmarks and others say it makes them more noticible.I dont want to take a chance and make them more noticible.
After reading 2387928357934562 pregnancy books (okay that's an exaggeration), the consensus I have come to is that nothing prevents stretch marks. The best way to not get them is by having good genetics and drinking lots of water/eating well.
To get rid of them - I don't know. There don't seem to be any really effective ways at eliminating them completely. The only hope seems to be in minimizing the severity of their appearance.
