    Default Southern Rock or Country?

You guys are awesome on picking out great music on the other threads. Any good southern rock type songs that you girls like dancing too? I personally would put some of Kid Rock stuff in that category. Just as an example.

I'm having difficulty finding good southern or even country music that is great for erotic dancing/stripping. I know--the two words just don't seem to go together. But women look great in "cowboy boots" and its hard to find music for them to dance with those boots on.

    Thanks.......

Omg, I love southern rock. It makes me feel sexy and "stripperish". Some of my favorites:

    Cat Power - He War
Chris Isaak - Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing
Janis Joplin - Piece of my Heart
    Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child
John Mayer - Slow Dancing in a Burning Room (it's very slow and sexy)

    Oh, you GOTS to include:

The Georgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands to Yourself
The Fabulous Thunderbirds - Tuff Enuff

Little more Midwestern, but definitely has a Southern twinge:
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Mary Jane's Last Dance

    Blue Country-Good Little Girls

I use that song in my country show, and even when I'm up north, I make money to it.

I can't say I would have thought of any of the above as Southern Rock.

Allman Bros & Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Crowes, ZZ Top, early Tom Petty, Brownsville Station ("Smokin' in the Boys Room") are all good. If you want to get a bit more modern, Kings of Leon have some good songs. And the Drive by Truckers and North Mississippi Allstars.

Yep. I agree. Here some of what I consider Southern Style:

Gretchen Wilson - all jacked up
    kentucky headhunters - Louisianna CoCo
Kid Rock & Hank Williams Jr - Naked Women and Beer
Tim McGraw - I LIke It I Love It
Gretchen Wilson - Here For The Party
    Kid Rock - Jackson Mississippi
Hank Williams Jr - All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight
    Aaron Tippen - Kiss This
Gretchen Wilson - Here For The Party

The blue is somewhat good southern rock that I would think is good stripping music. But there has to be more out there I'm missing. Country music is very tough. I don't think women can just strip to any 'ole country song. Most country doesn't have the right "hook". Plus you need specific outfits to make country work (my opinion). BUT-there are some out there (I hope) that goes great with a women in boots, skirt, and a straw cowboy hat.

Anyway-anyone have other ideas on this type of music?

I'm a little surprised that Paige isn't partial to "Whipping Post." (Allman Brothers)

Any Molly Hatchett? Black Oak Arkansas? Yeah..... I'm old.

When I ponder Janis Joplin for dance music, I think "Move Over," but most especially, "Down On Me."

Yeah I played that for a pretty cool dancer in Daytona on a regular basis, as well as some other Allman tunes. "I'm No Angel" was a bit too slow, but I'd play it for her at the beginning or the end of the night, and it lent itself well to the inevitable play on words.

Chris Isaak has some very countryish sounding songs on the two earlier CDs I have by him, and there's one song on a newer one, I can't remember the name of (it's way too early, lol) that sounds a lot like "baby did a ..." I have no idea where he's from, but Kid Rock is from Detroit, lol--that's as far away from country territory as you can get, though I did use "Jackson, Mississippi" a lot during last Race Week for all the southern guys we got.

What's the deal with that rumor that Hank was his real dad or whatever?

Never heard the one about and being his real dad.

I do remember watching Hank and Kid on CMT doing the Crossroads show. They did a story, about when Kid was younger how he and his dad would always go see Hank in concert when he was in town. Kids father would always try to get better seats every year, and would always turn to Kid and say how are these seats son??? Well many years later when Kid was famous, he took his Dad to see Hank, and they were watching the show from backstage, Kid turns to his dad and says How are THESE seat pop?

I though that was kinda a cool story!

    As far as a song:

Blink of an Eye by Richochet, also there are some great tunes on the new Shooter Jennings album titled Electric Rodeo

The truth of the matter is, I've never been crazy about country--but I think there has to be some of it I would like out there, especially with all the new stuff and the crossover that's been coming out recently.

Waylon Jennings, for some reason I like a lot of his stuff. Willie Nelson leaves me cold, though. I fucking love "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash, as well as "I Walk the Line", though neither of those would be very good for stage shows. I used to use "Ring of Fire" for a 'song to get the fucking guys out of the bar at closing' on particularly rough nights at my last club, 'the circus', which BMi can verify can get crazy sometimes, lol!

I think the Kid Rock being Hank's son might have been a minor publicity stunt? Or just one of those not-quite-so-urban legends, lol...

    Urban legend:

Another possible good one by the Allmans, or more appropriately, Greg Allman, would be "Good Clean Fun." (Their "Jessica" is quite high on my faves, but I can't imagine that in a strip club.)

A really kickass country-rock song is "Green Grass and High Tides" by the Outlaws, but I'm liking it as a customer. No one else would, unless the DJ had to leave for a smoke and a dump. It's about 104 minutes long, but it has energy.

I'm not too fond of classic country... but I have always been one for every genre of rock. I love playing The Black Keys when I want something I can move to without losing the 'rock.' They remind me of the southern rock I use to listen to growing up...

I don't know, maybe its just me but these songs always draw the crowd in...

Uh, think again on that one. This is very club-dependent. "Ring of Fire" and "Folsom Prison Blues" have netted me a hundred bucks in tips at one club. If you have the right crowd (and personality), they will go fucking nuts for some Cash.

Ah yes, the forgotten disclaimer 'in any club I've worked in'. I should put it in my signature.

Though it probably would have worked during Race Week in that one club. I was so busy playing other country and classic rock I didn't think of it at the time, but then I'd probably have had a hard time convincing one of the dancers to try it--there were only a couple who liked country out of all the dancers we had there. I would have loved that, too...

I have yet to work with any dancers, out of about 2,000 now, who have ever requested Johnny Cash--sorry to say, since I'd love to meet them. Nor have I ever heard it played in any club I've visited in Michigan, Maine, Illinois, California, Georgia, Texas, Florida, or any other states I've traveled through, but the clubs I visited were almost invariably in the bigger cities.

Now what I'd really love to see is the woman who could pull this off friday night at say, the Spearmint Rhino in Vegas, lol. I've worked with a few who might just be able to do it, if they let the DJ play it, that is.

Cowboy Troy - "I Ride Chicken with the Train"

If you can find it, try an an album called "Sharp Dressed Men." A bunch of country artists cover ZZ Top tunes and it comes out pretty nice. My favorite is Brad Paisley's "Sharp Dressed Man." You can check it out on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bkAAj3vdxc
