You are burning more than 300 calories a day. You need calories to run your body during the day, usually in the realm of 1700-2000 (give or take a couple hundred) for just living. If you use www.fitday.com it will calculate your activity level and all that for you.

I'm eating about 950 calories a day at the moment, because I only have afew kilos left to lose and they just aren't budging when I eat more than 1200. I lost most of my weight on 1500 calories a day though.

How many calories you need depends on things like your height, weight, level of physical activity and your percentage of muscle mass. The only way to find out what works for you in terms of weight loss is to experiment. 1500 calories a day is a good place to start. You can always drop down to 1300 or less if you don't lose weight on that amount. 636 calories is fairly low, particularly if you're exercising, and eating only that amount for a sustained period will cause your metabolism to slow. If you're keen to drop weight fast, 1000 calories a day should more than do the trick. I've dropped over a kilo and a half this week on close to that amount.

Also, you will maintain your weight if you take in as many calories as you burn. The calories you burn in total are only partially made up of the exercise you do. Your basal metabolic rate (or BMR) makes up the majority. Generally, if you are an inactive female, your BMR will be 1200 calories at a minimum (and keep in mind that that's if you're bedridden). Ordinary activities will raise this number. To lose weight, you need to take in fewer calories than you expend through your BMR and physical activity. It doesn't have to be drastically less, as long as you're happy with a slowish pace of loss.

As far as the 2500 calorie a day thing goes, yes, that is what most adults consume just to maintain their weight. Women often need slightly less, the average weight maintenance intake being 2000 calories. Hence why it's possible to lose weight quite easily on 1500. To gain half a kilo, you need to be taking in 3500 calories over and on top of your basic needs (so an extra 500 calories a day for a week would do the trick). So, if you need 2000-2500 calories to maintain your weight and you eat 3000 (or an extra piece of chocolate cake on top of your caloric needs every day), then you'd experience slow weight gain.

A lady finger banana is only 60, while a large one is 120. A smallish banana probably would be about 72.

I've lost 35lbs without ever measuring food, though I do approximate by eyeballing it. I also stick to recommended serving sizes (eg one small chicken fillet, one small potato, half a package of something that serves two etc).

i saw a pbs special on fiber35 diet.. fiber35.com i think it is is her website..if there isnt any info there i have her book.. my mom did a pledge and got it.. other than the normal EAT GOOD FOOD frequent and not alot at one time and move and water water ect.. something interesting..
1 gram of fiber means 7 calories arent absorbed.. so if you eat a 100 calorie banana with 2 grams fiber you get to chop off 14 calories.. not a whole lot until you try something else.. an organic fiber protein bar (whole foods) has 14 grams of fiber and 160 calories..doing the math you can take off 98 calories.. thats over half... So in a nutshell this lady says if you get 35 grams fiber a day you can chop off about 250 calories a day ... most breads, meat, dairy, processed foods have very little fiber but alot of calories.. there are nonflavoried fiber sprinkles you can put on food making (like her example) a bowel of chicken noodle soup go from 2 grams of fiber.. add a fat sprinkling and now it has 10 grams.. and minus 70 calories.. if that all makes sense..anyways if trying to count calories.. this seems like something interesting to look into

When I was on Weight Watchers there was a way that fiber calculated into the points and reduced the total points for a food if it was high fiber. Be careful eating too much fiber though!

Yeesh, I hope not. That's a bit too low. If you're trying to lose weight, you should be eating roughly 1200-1600 cals (depending on muscle mass and activity level), and if you want to maintain it should be 1700-2200.

I think I eat usually 1400-1800 calories except on splurge days!

Yea, I saw that special too. Is the book pretty good? I'm going to start incorporating more fiber into my diet.

I'm not very active right now (besides a 30-60 min brisk walk everyday) so I'm trying not to consume more than 1000 cals. a day. Sometimes I'll eat a little more, or a little less. Depends on if my body's hungry or not, I just listen to what it tells me instead of starving myself or giving into gluttony.

I feel guilty copying stuff from a book.. the fiber lady did a lot of work and deserves money for her ideas.. like one should buy the book if they want to be in the know..BUT i have a problem with "health things" costing money... i think if there is any info that can help people feel better it should be FREE maybe im wrong but oh welly ..so here it is
if you want to know more just let me know and ill find it in the book and post it or i can email it to you so i dont clog up the board .. but here are a few things..
She divides the thing into phases..the first phase is less calories so you should get close to goal weight by the end of it (about a month unless you have gobs to lose)

Find your metabolic rate.. how many calories a day to "maintain" current weight
    Your Weight x 10 = resting calories
resting calories x Activity level (.2 sedentary, .3 active, .4 very active) = activity calories
resting calories + activity calories = This is your estimated metabolic rate
Reduce this number by 1000 calories (but shouldn't be fewer than 1200) each day to lose weight

Its all the same old school 3500 calories equals a pound that we've all heard but breaking it down simple would mean if your metabolic rate is say 2000 calories.. to maintain current weight.. and you eat 500 calories over every day for a week.. you will gain 1 lb a week.. if you eat 500 less every day for 1 week then you will loose 1 lb..
I guess this is the lb of FAT? ive lost like 2 lbs one day doing nothing and then some days gain 4lbs weirdly .. guess the weird fluctuating is just water not fat

Incorporate metabolic boosters.. try to do 5-7 of these each day
    1. frequent eating (every 3 hours up to 6 times a day)
She said something about every time you eat your metabolism jumps 30% or something and stays up there for an hour or more ..something like that
    2. Strength training
    3. aerobics
    4. drink half your body weight in water (ounces)
    5. full 8 hours sleep
    6. sauna... says 30 min sauna is like running a 5 mile race
    7. herbal detox Detox is important because toxins live in the fat.. when you loose the fat the toxins just roam free.. you need something to push them out.. fiber, water, sweat all does this.. detox is just something else to add to help get rid of them..

Food examples phase 1 (this one doesn't use real food much but is just an example)
    Breakfast
fiber/protein shake with water, 1/2 c frozen fruit or 4 oz almond milk plus 4 oz water
    calories 250 fiber 10
    Snack
    1/2 protein/fiber snack bar
    calories 100 fiber 5
    Lunch
same as breakfast or meal containing fiber and protein like salad and chicken
    calories 250 fiber 10
    Snack
    same as above
    calories 100 fiber 5
    Dinner
containing fiber and protein like salmon/vegetables
    calories 400 fiber 10
    Snack
    same as above
    calories 100 fiber 5
Total calories 1200 Total fiber 45
Fiber flush (how many calories you can subtract because of fiber) 315 calories
Total amount calories you really ate that day 885

Shes got pages of real sample menus with recipes..the one above is very plain but just is an example of how you really can get a decent amount of food each day with very low calories and alot of fiber

I cant eat every few hours during the day ive tried and tried.. i just do my 2 meals and do just fine but am going to try more fiber..just for the sake of its healthy ..also fiber just doesnt move your bowels but it removes alot of stuff.. the insoluble and soluble each move different things like yanks stuff with it ..not just food... to be passed by the body.. one is like a broom and the other absorbs extra things

Sunnie sent me a similar formula to that. Through it I worked out that my metabolic rate (at this weight and activity level) is only 1500 calories a day. Since I was eating about 1500 to lose weight, it didn't take long to figure out why I'd been stuck at a plateau for a month. Duh- as your weight drops, you need fewer calories to sustain it. So I cut back to under 1200 and the weight's been falling off since.

    Thanks Sunnie!

i dont know if this fiber plan thing works but from the calculation if it took you to 1500 calories a day and you did her 35 fiber grams a day that would bring your calories to around 1200 or so .... so maybe with this thing you can up your calories to a little above 1200 and add the fiber whammo foods and you will still be techinically getting under 1200 due to the fiber flush thing.... what you are doing is working for you and makes sense... just if you needed to eat more one day if you make it alot of fiber it may keep you to low calories

I actually went to her site and then did a google search on soluble fiber. I think I'm just going to buy some Heather's Tummy Fiber and see how that works for me.

I don't really count calories. I monitor my carbs more and try to watch what I eat throughout the day. I usually eat anywhere from 1200-2000 calories depending on how hungry and how active I am that day. On days when I don't work out, I eat closer to 1200 cals, and on days where I have a really intense workout (or if I'm at a wedding or party and just feel like splurging ) I have closer to 2000. But on an ordinary day, I probably eat around 1500-1600 calories.

I don't really count calories. However, I do eat very healthy and often. I try to stick to healthy carbs, veggies, protein and my daily chocolate intake.

when you do the math thing.. you subtract 1000 calories but dont go below 1200 so if it puts you below 1200 just stop at 1200 if that makes sense..
Im not saying this thing is right or not just inspired me to eat more fiber.. the insoluble and soluble fibers do sweepy things cleaning you out and absorbing things.. once you get used to a decent amount everyday your body gets used to it and i would think youd be cleaner.. with the unflavored fiber sprinkles ive seen in commercials really you dont need to change what you eat just sprinkle it ..says even in water... ive been eating alot of beans like i said a million times its getting old but the first few days deadly but just after a week i can eat a can and feel nothing ..no different than if i ate a sandwich so i think your body does want the fiber just if we are used to eating just a teeny bit it needs time to adjust .. i just plain feel better .. not doing the calorie count thing or her menus because i dont like my food intake to be so schedulized i like eating to be enjoyable eat when im hungry ect.. but just adding beans and fugi apples i feel worlds better and poop nice and regular.. and the other night we had pizza i truly could only eat half a slice before i wanted to puke.. im guessing its because my belly was full enough from earlier in the day with all the apples and blessed musical beans.. ..

If your weight is like 75lbs and you're inactive than it probably is.

Otherwise my guess is that you entered your weight in kilos, in which case it's definitely not right. I made that mistake at first.

Some of those max calorie limits I'm seeing reminds me of Ana Girls I've known...

haha I'm a friggin bottomless pit, it's hard to stay under 2000 a day..I usually eat 1900-2400, work out 5 days a week but sit on my booty the rest of the time..maybe that's why I can't lose that last 10 lbs.
