    Default audition songs

Hello ladies I have an audition on Monday night and need some advice. The club plays mostly rock music and I suppose I could dance to that but I would feel more comfortable dancing to R&B or something with a little more beat to ride. Do you think the DJ will go along with playing something else and will I put off the custy's considering they seem like the rock and roll types? Ooh so excited and nervous but after reading everyone's posts on this site I got such great advice that it makes this audition process so much easier. Thanks to the veterns for taking the time to give advice and support. I'll post and let everyone know how it goes.

i say, pick something YOU like.

my first time i ever danced was to "aeroplane" by the red hot chili peppers (my favorite band) and i'm telling you, it was so easy, to prance around and sing the song in my head. i didn't notice all the men staring at me enough to make me nervous.

Pick something you like, but definitely TIP the DJ for playing it, since it seems to be out of the usual rotation. Plus, a tip will to the DJ will help you if you're hired.

Don't go too far outside the club norm for music. There has to be something you can catch your groove to while staying in the regular mix, you don't want to seem like a complete outsider yet attain your uniqueness.

Well I personally feel like that, if you can't dance to whatever is being played at the drop of a dime, then you aren't a real dancer. But since you are a newbie, you need to be in your "comfort" zone at least for the first couple months. I would nicely ask the DJ to just play you something slow and sexy, preferably from the top 40 since more than likely you'll have some sort of idea what you're dancing to.

Thanks ladies I was not the only new girl the night I auditioned and the other girls wanted to dance to the same type of music R&B. It seems that there are three dj's and the one that was there when I checked out the club likes rock but the other two like to mix it up. I was so nervous but everyone even the dj couldn't believe I hadn't danced before. I do have a dance background and could dance to rock but with the new 6 inch shoes and being nervous I was at home with the R&B. In addition the girls who dance to the rock songs are complete veterns and do amazing pole work. I did not want to look like an idiot next to them. It's one thing to be able to dance in regular shoes and a whole new ballgame in those heels. Thanks for the advice. I'm now gonna learn that pole work if it kills me. After one week I'm loving the money and learning the hustle game.

Relax, you are obviously doing very well. I can almost always tell when a woman has had a dance background, and it always looks good.

Don't worry so much about the pole tricks--they get the guys attention but you do not need them to be sexy. If a dancer is good on the pole I will talk it up, sure, but some of the hottest dancers I have worked with never did tricks--they didn't have to. It is very useful for building confidence though, so have at it if you are so inclined.

i think, when the dancer KNOWS the song and likes it, that her true colors shine through and it makes it that much sexier.

More importantly, if the song MOVES her, it really shows. Knowing a song and having the song inspire you are different things. The one is helpful, the other is the best option.

I see both sides--as a DJ it can be very frustrating to work with women who say they can absolutely only dance to rap, when there's a bunch of rich baby boomer rock fans in the house.

OTOH, I have seen veteran dancers--who claimed it didn't matter what I played--really put their heart into a song I found for them that actually moved them. To me, there's not much better about being a DJ than doing this--except maybe helping a newbie find stuff that moves her, as well.

I'm glad you worked with a cool DJ, BTW.

our club doesn't allow rap for that very reason.

    PERFECT reply.

I used to make KANSAS work for me, just an example.
