Ok - some of you are aware of the evil that is known as Drive Time. They sold me a car about 5 months ago and they stressed very strongly that if I was ONE day late on the payments during the first 6 months that they will reposess the car - no ifs ands or buts.
So, I paid my bill online today (my due date is always the 15th) and realized that the clock on my computer said 8:30pm (PST) instead of 9:30pm (the real time) when the online receipt told me that they received my payment on 3/16/07!!

Drive Time closes at 9pm - I tried calling their customer service after I paid the bill, but I got a recording.

Do you think they will repo my car? Does paying 30 minutes after they close count as a late payment, or is it usually midnight of that time zone?

Please don't lecture me about how I shouldn't wait til the last minute to do things. Yes, I know I could be better about that. I am so freaking out right now and my bf has no idea what to think either. All I can think about is how would I survive without a vehicle? It would be nearly impossible!

Ehh I dunno... might be worth your while to park it elsewhere until you can get ahold of them.

Sometimes companies like that are all bark and no bite... but I wouldn't count on it. My apartment building acted all crazy about how you had to pay to park here, but I always do and I haven't given them a cent. Hope it turns out well!

Your fine. They recieved the payment. They cannot repo your car if you payed them. What they probably meant was that if you were one day late, meaning you had not payed them by the 16th, they would come and get it. When they open tomorrow and see you made your online payment, everything should be fine.

I bought my car at Drive Time and they didn't tell me anything like that. They did, however, tell me that they will start collection calls like the day after the due date.

If I were you, I would just call first thing in the morning and explain the situation. Besides, I think it would be really bad business for them to go around repossessing cars for payments that are only one day late. Don't sweat it, you should be okay!

Alexxa, don't sweat it. DT is all bark and no bite, at least what I experienced with them.

My ex-boyfriend bought a Cavalier from them, way over priced. He lost his job and was basically living in that car. Wouldn't pay the payments for months. They would always be polite and generous trying to call him each week to make a payment plan. Even afer he set it up, he hardly ever followed through. Basically before I broke up with him, he hadn't paid them in MONTHS and still had that car.

I'm pretty sure they won't take your car for being 30 minutes past their closing time.

Don't worry about it. Just call them as soon as they open and explain the situation

I doubt it. Do you know how busy they'd be if that was really their policy? I'm sure they have tons of people paying more than one day late.

Aside from all of the above, I do not believe that they can legally repossess until ALL avenues of attempting to collect the past due balance has been exhausted. Which is why lenders do not usually repossess anything until 60-90 days has passed.

    **whew!!**

I called them this afternoon and everything is cool. I realize they are very lenient - I've been 170 days past due on having full insurance coverage (which I suppose is technically a breach of contract) and they bring it up occasionally when I call to pay my bill but they haven't taken action on it.

Thanks for all the advice. I guess I was just paranoid.

    This is correct.

It's a scare tactic. There are laws protecting you. They would be really risking you're inability to file suit against them, however so many lawyers would take that case it wouldn't be funny.

I think there is even federal labor laws allowing a minimal grace period. Not sure though.
