    Default ER for cramps?

usually, I have pretty bad cramps the first day of my period. After that first day, I dont get them anymore.

This is the 3rd day of my period, and I have the worst most severe cramps I've ever had. I've never had cramps last 3 days before. Oddly enough, the first 2 days of my period, my cramps weren't that bad, and all the sudden today they are horrific. I don't understand why? Im thisclose to going to the ER. Ive never felt anything like this before.

Its probably just because its a Friday and I NEED to work tonight, so the universe decided to screw me over.

What to do? Took 800 mg. of Ibuprofin, it helped a little bit, but not enough.

Ibuprofen doesn't work for me, neither does Midol. Only thing that helps me is Naproxen Sodium.

Sometimes things can exacerbate cramps such as excess sodium leading to water retention, diet (caffeine, smoking, high fatty foods), poor posture, and lack of sleep.

Its not the best idea but sometimes when I had bad cramps I would take 800mg of Ibuprofen every 4 hours then with a heating pad and alot of water. If this is a common problem of your cramps being really bad this way then please see a doctor. Maybe they can see why this happens so severely or prescribe you some stronger pain medication.

You could have an ovarian cyst or be having a very early miscarriage.....

if you have insurance, you should go to the hospital

    No insurance.
Doubt its an early miscarriage, as I did not have sex this month when I was fertile, and my period is not heavier than usual, it actually seems a little lighter than usual to me. The severity of the cramps seem to be subsiding now, its just a constant ache in my back and an occational cramp. I should go lay down with the heating pad for a bit see if that helps first ....

Yep! Aleve is the only thing that helps me, and even then it just makes it a little bearable. I get extremely bad cramping to the point that I have to take a hot bath for hours (I swear I'm boiling myself because I need it so hot ). I do notice that it's worse when I haven't been very active, if I've had a good amount of exercise it's not too bad.

Yea having no insurance skip the ER visit unless you're dying. Thats how I see it. If all possible in the future duct tape your broken bones back together too save some money JK! You probably need some serious rest, heating pad and chill out time. Hope you feel better soon.

    Heating pad and Naproxen!
I used to have horrendous cramps, but they WERE usually only for the first day or two. I've had them so bad that I couldn't move and just curled up and cried.
I hope you get to feeling better. I would visit a regular doctor in the morning if it hasn't improved at all.

Are you getting cramp-like pain during the middle of your cycle as well as during your periods? Have your last few periods been somewhat heavier? Are they lasting longer or shorter in duration? Are you clotting more? Have you had excessive hair growth or some weight gain?

These are the questions that will be asked when you see an OB/GYN. And here is the answer you will get from them .... let's see how your next 4 cycles are. If you are still cramping really bad, then come back and we will go from there. (Pay at the front as you leave, please). So now you wait.

Let's just say that these continue for 4 more cycles. You go back in and the doc or midwife tells you, "hey, you may need a D&C, not a big deal, we do it all the time, just routine. And then we will see how you do with your periods. Okay? By the way, any pain during the middle of your cycle?" (Pay at the front as y ou leave, please.) So now you wait.

Let's say it doesn't continue and that it only happened a couple of times. Phhewww, what a relief. Now I don't have to pay at the front as I leave. Wow, Geico is not the only one that can save me a whole lot of money!

There was an EXCELLENT prescription drug for bad cramps --- Anaprox-DS. It was great, never made you tired, cramps gone in 20 minutes. It was even great for powerlifters and body builders for their cramps. Now it is sold over the counter --- Aleve. Not as strong as the prescription formula, but nonetheless, it is the SAME DRUG. I think you can still get the prescription of Anaprox DS.

I have severe pain every month, and the Drs know the cause and all, but still all they will ever give me is Ibuprofen or Naproxin. Honestly, unless an infection or other serious condition is a fear, I wouldn't bother with doctors if I were you. All they ever did for me was piss me off and send me off still crying in pain clutching my bottle of ibuprofen. I do as described above, and it helps a little. Hard on the kidneys though, even with all the water. Maybe if you are lucky though, you know a doctor who will give you something that actually works.
    Wish I did.

Sounds like a cyst. My friend had HORRIBLE cramps to the point where she HAD to go to the hospital, and found out a cyst ruptured. They had to put her on some kind of medication.

Hopefully, that isn't what you have.
