I use the Nutro brand, but the product that I feed hasn't been recalled. Causes kidney failure resulting in death. Protect your precious pets!

Thanks for the warning! Fortunetly, the brands I buy for my dogs and cats isn't on the list! They're safe!

What's with all this food (for both human and animal consumption) being recalled as of late? Here I am eating a bowl of Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes from Taco Bell, and they still haven't put the scalliions back in (never mind that it was the lettuce causing the problem). And I can't even think about eating peanut butter w/o my bowels going into a snit. Thank God, I don't have a pet.
I can't recall (pun!) a time when there's been so much of this going on. Is our food supply really that unsafe?

A very close friend of mine in Lake City, FL had one of her dogs die of renal failure on December 28th. Guess which food she fed her? Her other dog was also ill, but survived. He was younger and, I suppose, more hearty. The thing is, monetary compensation, even if she was so inclined, will never bring her dog back. This whole thing sucks.
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.

man, that's awful! im glad my kids get fed Royal Canin. but yea, protect the pets! thanks for the post, Paris.
Love it!
Phew! My girls get Royal Canin too--but I used to feed them Eukanuba!
How terrible!
I only feed my dog dry food, and it seems the problem was only with, as they put it "cuts and gravy." Although, he's on a bag of Science Diet right now, I alternate with Nutro sometimes.
My kitties are out of can food, and thier usual brand is on the list. Any recommendations on good, high-quality brand of cat food that is safe right now?

Thank god my food isn't on the list.
I use royalcanine.
I couldn't handle it if something happened to my dog.
I feel so sad for the people who lost their pets.

Thanks for posting this Paris. Thank gosh my cat food isn't listed on there. It does makes me wonder though-I had a two-year old cat (my precious little Maxi) that got kidney failure and died about 3 years ago; which is very unusual for a cat so young....Just curious-how'd you find this and do you know what it is in these products that's causing it?
Oh shit, my friend just adopted a cat yesterday and bought a bag of Iams! I can't get the Iams page to load so I don't know which kind has been recalled. Does anybody have that info?
I feed my cat Purina (hairball control for indoor cats) and it's not on there, thank goodness... but I am worried about my friend's new kitty!

I feed my precious furchild Nutro, but I feed her dry food. So happy I stuck with dry.
I had a hard time finding anything.. All I found was that it is the wet food for cats...
I wonder when this all happened.. I usually only give my dogs dry, but since they are no longer allowed any people food, I bought a few cans of Iams.. This was a while ago ( I stock up when shopping)..
I wonder when all this started.
here's a list of the cat items that was posted on craigslist

THIS WAS ON THE p&g SITE
Dayton, OH (March 16, 2007) – In response to the recent Menu Foods, Inc. nationwide recall of wet pet foods, P&G Pet Care has announced a voluntary recall in the United States and Canada on specific 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch “wet” cat and dog food products manufactured by Menu Foods Inc. Emporia, Kansas plant with the code dates of 6339 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197. This voluntary recall is part of a larger product recall by Menu Foods Inc., a contract manufacturer that makes a small portion of canned and foil pouch ‘wet’ cat foods for Iams and Eukanuba as well as other non-P&G brands. There have been a small number of reported cases of cats from the US (none in Canada) becoming sick and developing signs of kidney failure. The signs of kidney failure include loss of appetite, vomiting, and lethargy. P&G Pet Care has received no case reports involving dogs.
To read can product codes, refer to the bottom of the can. The first four numbers of the second line of numbers are the date code, and the following four numbers indicate the plant code. For example, if the second line begins with four numbers from 6339 to 7073 followed by the plant code 4197, then the can should be recalled. For foil pouches, the code numbers are located at the lower left hand corner on the back of the pouch. The date and plant codes appear in the third group of numbers, beginning an 11-digit sequence. See www.Iams.com and www.Eukanuba.com for illustrated details. Review the list of involved products here.

Thanks for posting that! I posted it on myspace too...I have cousins that have cats and dogs. None of my food was on the list. I feed him Nutro Max Cat canned and my cans weren't on there. I'll have to keep this list because he needs new food soon.

My dog eats Science Diet and Euchaneuba treats. I don't see that on there, do I? It seems that most of the brands are generic or store brands, not vet brands. Am I missing it and it's there? I'm totally paranoid.
^There is some Eukanuba stuff for dogs that has been recalled. http://us.eukanuba.com/eukanuba/en_U...ageID=HM&cn=US

Hill Country Fare is a store-brand FYI, not sure if any others are as well. Glad I stick with dry food, less mess and apparently safer. Mine is Maximum something- just picked it as the best Wal-mart had from the nutritional analysis. Funny too, I gave my cats a dry sample of a more $$$ brand I got somewhere the other day, they turned up their noses at it and cried for their usual lol

My dad just sent me an article about this and it says it's all "cuts and gravy" food which I guess is moist food. I feed my dog only dry so I should be safe but this is still really scary to think that all these animals could be getting bad food all over the place.
I didn't realize it was just the "cuts and gravy" that was recalled. I just threw out all my dry food! oops... Oh well, I'm switching brands anyway.
be careful when switching brands, you have to mix it with their old stuff (kind of wean them off the old stuff) or you have a good chance of giving them cha cha cha..
