The thing is, you're both right. Bigger people have higher metabolic rates simply by virtue of their weight. The more weight you're carrying, the more calories your body burns sustaining it, basically. The metabolic rate drops as weight does, though, so while initial weight might come off very quickly for those who are significantly overweight, that pace will not be sustained all the way to a normal weight.

This is why on the biggest loser they will vote out the ones who are closer to their goal whight becuse they will stop throwing up big numbers for the team.
