    Default The typical agency!

Warning! This is intended not to offend anyone but is a rant and should be taken as such.

Ive finally figured out what the typical agency looks like. After much research and fact finding it's this in a nutshell...

The average agency owner or manager is usually a delusional male who thinks that if he owns an agency and books strippers for parties it will make him a player. He might actually get some from girls that he has no business getting attention from in the real world other than his delusional head.

Usually the office is a cheap 75-150 a month crappy executive suite or some back office of a used car dealership or something like it and he has 3-4 rollover lines answererd by drugged up trash he hires from the street or pregnant entertainers. This supposedly gives him a look of professionalism because no one really sees their office.

They charge like 150 to 200 an hour with the dancer maybe getting half if lucky. More often than not the agency doesnt tell the dancer what they sold the party for, you find out from the customer that theyre paying like 400 and youre getting 100-150.

The agency does very little work in fact other than running cheap 10 dollar ads in the local sex and swingers rag or free ads on craigslist.

More often than not the customer is disappointed because the entertainer is oversold or they were promised she would do more than shes actually willing to do.

This is why I will never work for an agency and why no other dancer should either. Most agency owners are sleezy and need to be put in their place.

Oh, I disagree, and I think it's pretty easy to weed out the weasels. There are reputable agencies out there who only take a small cut of the total party price and help screen the clientele pretty thoroughly. It's just like clubs; some are good and some aren't. It's another example of where doing your research is worthwhile. The agency Paris works with, strippers101.com, doesn't take anywhere near half of the party price, and the fact that they require a credit card deposit helps ensure your safety and the legitimacy of the party.

I do agree that if they are taking a huge cut of the party price or promise you'll do things you aren't comfortable with that they are huge weasels and you should warn other girls about them by name!

If they get any compensation it should be like a sports agent- 3-10% no more. They do very little other than use us to promote their own ego.

sports agents get 3%, most entertainment agents and managers get 10%. If someone is paying 15% they need their head examined.

Because I know these things from having been told this by people in those jobs or who are in those industries.

Agents do nothing to earn such high commissions anyway. If I need someone to mail my promo materials out I could pay anyone for that. The agent isnt doing the work. the entertainer, artist, dancer or musician is.

My agent earns every penny of his 15%. He books all my jobs for me, screens them to make sure they are legit and safe, escorts(or sends an escort) with me if needed, makes sure I am paid and fights any battles for me(should any arise). He sells for me and hustles for me. He books flights and arranges for out of town accomodations for me.I dont have to do a thing but show up and work.

Like I said, everyone I know pays about the same 15%. If all the people you know have agents that do nothing but mail out promo stuff...then I agree..that isnt worth it and they have crappy agents. A good agent is worth his/her weight in gold.

Well I'm happy to hear you can do everything yourself. That isnt always possible..I know a lot of companies who only hire through agents...and those are the companies that usually pay the best.
I have no desire to spend tons of extra time promoting myself and selling myself to try to get hired. Not to mention all the time spent doing research to make sure I will be working with a reputable company and not putting myself in a dangerous position, or taking a chance that I wont get paid.
I keep extremely busy with just my end of the deal.....theres no way I'd be able to do his job too.

Amylynnej, there are an awful lot of agents out there just like you describe. The typical stripper agency does take a larger percentage of the base rate than a sports agent, but usually the total $$ amount is less than what clubs take from dancers.

I can give you an in depth look at what it is like being on the other side of the booking agents desk, but suffice it to say that trying to get 30-50 dancers co-ordinated to do 50-100 parties a week, as well as customer service and follow up, dealing with dancer drama, and the occasionally customer that thinks when I say "No Sex" I'm just using some kind of code talk, is not something most dancers want to take on themselves.

I have to use my hustle skills to close the party sales. I have to convince the customers which dancers are going to be best for their parties, I have to deal with racist fucktards that scream at me that this dancer or that is too (insert color here) and not acceptable.

Last week a male dancer got into an auto accident in Houston. I was fully booked, and had no replacement for him. I called his parties and told them the situation and that I would be sending out a full refund of their deposit. One lady ripped me a new asshole demanding that I not only send her a full refund that I drive the money over to her right then and there and that I also reimburse her for the expense of the food and decorations that she went to as well. She ended up screaming at me that I'd be hearing from her lawyer for damages and mental anguish that my agency caused her because I was unable to prevent the dancer from being t-boned at an intersection.

So, yes, some agencies are pimp wannabes, but there are some reputable places that respect their dancers, treat the dancers like the independent contractors that they are, and do screen the clients for safety and legitimaticy. You just have to know which is which.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

The agent I worked for was run by a woman who was a dancer herself, with a secretary who was an ex dancer. Their office was a big, nice, newly renovated office in the CBD. All customers that came into the office were shown a slideshow of RECENT photos of which girls were available and which shows each girl was available for, and customers could then put together a package for their event. They promoted the agency at major events with promo girls in coordinated outfits, they had a nice website (done by me!), they took out huge ads in the yellow pages... there was nothing tacky at all. They had tank tops made with the agency logo on them that we could wear to our parties before we got into costume. They provided business cards for us with either a generic photo of one of the girls, or our own photo, on the front, with our name, a list of the shows we do, etc.

Now, I never actually ever worked for any agency other than this one, so I'm not sure what others were like, but this one was pretty good.

My agency was just sold from a woman to one of the showgirls... both of which had done shows for 10+ years. They have an office, but the lines automatically route to their mobile for last minute calls...

    Man you have shitty luck.

Yeah, my xxx agent gets 15%, most of the others in LA get between 15-20%. My feature agents get between 12-15%, depending on the agency that booked me.

An agent that is hired by YOU usually gets is agreed upon percentage. This is not the case in most agencies. They work under a “Buy and Sell” agreement. They BUY your service at what ever price you ask for and SELL you at what ever price they can get. It can be triple what you are getting. This is what I see most often
