Cheese grits, extra cheese, lots of butter, throw in some bacon and a fried egg for good measure and eat with heavily buttered toast!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again--Breakfast is not only the most important meal of the day, it's also the best!

omg, I loooove grits! But I like them with butter and brown sugar and cinnamon. Is that blasphemous? People looked at me funny when I did that down South...

I've never had a problem when I have them with butter, but when I add a bunch of other stuff, I can get gas.

I've seen them at restaurants, but I've never eaten them. Do you just buy grits in a box and add stuff to them?

They kind of cook like cream of wheat or even similar to oatmeal (although they are what they are named <-- gritty).. I have only ever had non-gritty grits at this cute little restaraunt and they were actually fluffy.. *swoon*
    Good stuff..
And I can NOT stand them with salt.. But I like honey and syrup on everything I have for breakfast. I put it on my sausage, eggs, toast you name it. I rarely use salt in anything I cook, but instead like it all sweet.
I've had them cheesy, but still added honey.

Quaker makes instant grits. You can find them in the cereal aisle by the oatmeal at the grocery store.

Just add hot water and anything else you want!

Gritty grits? Like they have a gritty texture? Never experienced that with grits. I've only ever tasted them with a creamy texture. I've had lumpy grits...

yeah, I was saying like a gritty texture.. I hate lumpy grits though, they always feel uncooked in the middle of the lumps.
I was trying to describe the differene between cream of wheat and oatmeal and grits.. Grits aren't as smooth as the first two.

Cheese grits for the win!I also like them with butter and a little salt and pepper. My wife put syrup on hers once when we first met, and I thought that was pretty damned gross. A little crumbled bacon is pretty tasty in them, too. I also recommend soaking the pan in water IMMEDIATELY afterwards, or it turns to cement. MMM, now I want grits, but not the instant kind.
waffles are just pancakes with little squares on them.

grits are to mealy for me, but I love polenta, it's smoother. It's an italian thing. polenta is a side dish (dinner). while grits are usually a breakfast thing.

polenta is a slow cooked cornmeal mush, while grits are hominy mush, and usually, sadly, quick cooking. polenta is also a more yellow color.

Oh, and all you Yanks who are putting sugar and honey in your grits... don't ever do that in Dixie.

I grew up with grits because my dad is Mr. Redneck himself. He gets excited about them like you've never seen before!

We only eat them with salt and butter, though.

Ugh I hate grits. Isnt it like ground up hominy or something? Anyways it was nasty...it was one of those things my mom would make me eat if there was nothing else in the house. To mask the taste I ate them with butter and white sugar.
