Default Stinky dog, how often to bathe?

We just got our puppy a couple of weeks ago and were told she could only have a bath once a week. But dayum, she's stinky. I know that bathing her can dry out her skin, and I don't want that, but I also can't have "dog smell" all over my house and myself.

She's an 8 week-old boxer, so she's shorthaired. I don't know if she's extra stinky or if I'm just new to dogs and that's how they smell. Help me!!

hmmm. what are you bathing her with? there are certain shampoos and conditioners that have a stronger scent so it lasts longer.. Also the there are cheapo cleaners that really don't do much so they are kind of a waste.
Also is she a semi-outdoor dog? Outdoor dogs tend to get dirtier and smellier faster than the lounging indoor dogs.
My dogs aren't sensitive so I use dogie shampoo on them and then a scented people conditioner for their hair, sometimes I add alittle olive oil to deep condition just because one has course hair.
I love herbal essences new conditioners, they smell great and the scent stays on for a while and since they are so light, they don't irritate my dogs' skin.

Your puppy smells bad? That doesn't sound good. I mean, does she smell like something besides puppy? I like puppy smell. Go out and smell a couple of other puppies and see what you think.

If you really want to you can get "dog perfume" from your pet store - it tends to be clovey.
If you want to bathe her, you can find something without soap - Aveeno moisturizing body wash, for example.

But if she is a healthy puppy, you might just have to get used to how she smells. I mean, you can't really get around having a dog smell like a dog.

^^^ I was thinking the same thing.. I know that older dogs tend to start to smell a bit, but this is a puppy..
Good idea on the perfumes, I see them at Petsmart all the time, I love the way my critters smell, but they are lazy dogs that barely get off the couch to go pooty, so they aren't really getting into anything too smelly..
Also, do you have a backyard or yard area that the dog is rolling around in? My in-laws have cat shit all over their backyard that my dogs LOVED to get into, it was nasty from the roaming neighborhood cats.
You might have a curious critter that is getting into stuff he shouldn't be.

Has the vet has ruled out any skin conditions(which can make them stink and boxers are highly prone to having) If she smells really bad or at all yeasty...have her checked.

She's just a normal puppy and smells like a normal puppy. But, she is my first doggie ever so it's not something I'm used to at all. Kitties just don't stink like that! ;-)

I will see if I can find something to help her smell better. She's very active and we take her outside a lot, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. We don't want to do anything to hurt her skin though, so we will be very careful.

You prob just need to get used to the smell.. It happens.. I just adopted a cat and it took a few days to get used to her scent, and her attacking my feet (ha ha)..
Good luck and enjoy the little critter!

I buy these puppy wipes at Petsmart and just wipe my dog down with them in between baths.

At first glance I thought you said you buy "pussy wipes"

Man, my mind is in the gutter.
