Default Club forcing me to work day shifts

I don't know what to do about this. I work in a club in PDX where they want me to work 2 days shifts a week. I have been at the club off and on for four months now. I ask the GM when this policy will end for me, and he says when they get a suitable day shift lineup.

It's not worth it to me to work a day shift and make 40-80 dollars. FUCK THAT! I have other things to do. But I don't know how to get out of it. I have tried to talk to the manager before, but it's almost like he's pressuring me.

I don't know how to get out of this. I don't want to say "No more day shifts" because if I don't want to lose my position at this club.

It's frustrating for me too because I see lots of random traveling girls/girls who have worked there a while who don't have to do this. Yet he refuses to tell me when this will end for me! I feel taken advantage of.

This is the Dolphin II...if that helps...

Yes, you are getting taken advantage of, but it's because you are reliable (sucks, right?)
Honestly, that's why I left one of my first clubs. We had to pay the DJ $40 and barely even made that.. It wasn't worth the effort to me and so I left... When I tried to come back about a half year later I wasn't made to do them anymore.\
I left a polite note explaining that I wanted to check out other clubs and I would let them know if I wanted to come back so I didn't burn any bridges.
In your case, basically they need day dancers and since they know that you want to work there regularly, they are going to ride that for as long as they can.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

Tell him you're going to school during the day or you have another day job or if you don't want to get that detailed of info tell them you have other commitments during the day that's making it impossible for you to work day shift. Don't tell them you don't want to work day shift because there's no money to be made or that you hate it, simply tell them you have other obligations/commitments during the day in which you're not available or that you've signed up for something during the day and you need to switch to a later shift. If they're not going to be flexible, ask them if you could work something out, maybe work 1-2 day shifts per month or do a midshift like 4pm-12am or something. If all else fails and they won't let you switch and if the money sucks that bad then maybe it's time for another club. If they won't be willing to work with your schedule then just tell them nicely you understand their situation but you can't get out of your current obligations so you'll have to quit. Maybe if you threaten to quit they'll reconsider because since you're reliable and a good worker, not all dancers are reliable and they know that so it would be stupid of them to let you go.

Man, that sucks. It would be one thing if you wouldn't mind leaving the club, because then you could just tell them that you are unable to work dayshifts, and find a way to eloquently say that it's a waste of your time. However, if you're afraid of losing your job...I'm not sure what to tell you. I know some clubs that usually make you work certain days are more lenient with school girls or ones that have a dayjob, HOWEVER, they require proof of such committments. Also, if you have already worked day shifts, they might find it suspicious if you say that you can't do it anymore and think that you're lying. (Then again, I'm paranoid, and could be wrong.)

Maybe try to take the manager aside and explain to him that it's not worth your time, and that you will be much more productive on nightshifts (making them more money) if you do not have to waste your energy doing day shifts?

hm that sucks. ya my last club i worked at u had to work at least one day shift.

anyways thats not fair. u shud tell em u have school everyday during the day! or some other excuse that is important.

tell em that its not your fault u dont have enough girls.

or maybe if u agree 2 work a few dayshfits, tell em u want something back in return. like no paying a house fee or something?

I'm not afraid to walk away from a club, so I would look the manager in the eye and say "I can't". But like I said, I'm not afraid of leaving a club permanently. What is the club doing to gain more daytime business? I mean aside from forcing girls to work? If your manager isn't doing anything to drive more business through the doors, then maybe looking for a club that does respect your scheduling desires might be your only option.

It's not like you are stuck working for just the one club. There are dozens of clubs in the area. I would call your manager's bluff and say no to day shifts, that it just isn't your scene and that you can't work that way. If they are that desperate for day girls, they can start offering shift pay.

This happened to me at my old club, too. They were constantly desperate for daytime dancers and made a million excuses to keep me from switching to nights. You could try saying that you have other obligations during the day, and see if they will bend for you. In my case, I finally just left the club, and it turned out to be a very good move. Good luck!

That stinks. My old club did this right before I started a new semester so I set up all my classes to be in the middle of the day Mon-Thurs, so that I was only available to work nights.

If your club wants proof that you're unavailable to work days you could sign up for daytime classes at the community college or whatever, print up your schedule, then drop all your classes during the time frame where you'll get a 100% refund.

It's illegal, really, isn't it? We're independant contractors! When my club started bitching at me for 'you can't come in whenever you want' (it's not like they even HAD a schedule... I was just coming in once or twice a week or whenever).... I left. I don't work for them... I PAY them.

Who are you? Is this B*****?

There is another poster here who works with me at the DII and they tried to pull this on her as well because she's a good reliable dancer and god knows that dayshift there sucks ass right now. They won't get a decent lineup until there's business back again, which, by the way, they killed a year ago by hiking the drink prices and pissing off all the dayshift regulars who haven't come back to find out they're lower again.

My advice would be to simply ignore it. Come in at night. If you are reliable for them on nights, esp the 5pm or 6pm shifts, you're pretty valuable, too. Are you currently working on nights and doing better then?

I've been having this issue, too. They have certain days that they try to make dancers work. They say we HAVE to (no threats, no bribes). I've always told them that I can't. I mean, I really can't. I have school. If I'm not in school or doing homework, I'm at work. School is my top priority, not them! (Sorry, mini rant!) Anyways, I guess they've gotten rid of a lot of girls and now they're laying the pressure on the ones who are left. I felt like I was being nagged so I was like, "fine" and I just didn't show up.

Generally, "I can't" works. Make something up. $40-$80?! That's horrible!
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

I'd rather keep anonymous due to some personal things I've posted here, but...
Yes I work nights and do GREAT.
Thanks for all the advice. I think I will just tell G--- that I can't work day shifts and see what happens.

Perhaps you should remind him you are there to make money. And the day shift doesnt do that, therefor you won't be where you are not making money.

I would work it for a month or so, and then tell the manager you are going back to school and can't work day shifts. Be apologetic.
