    Default Creepy Flight

First class flight with a corpse

    Mon Mar 19, 8:29 AM

LONDON (Reuters) - A passenger in first class woke up to a shock when he found himself sitting near a corpse on a British Airways flight, British newspapers reported on Monday.

Paul Trinder, 54, said cabin crew moved the body of the elderly woman from the economy section where she had died after take-off, the Mirror and Sun tabloids said.

"The corpse was strapped into the seat but because of turbulence it kept slipping down on to the floor," Trinder, a businessman, was quoted as saying. "It was horrific. The body had to be wedged in place with lots of pillows."

The woman's daughter was also upgraded and spent the rest of the nine-hour flight from Delhi to London grieving next to her dead mother, the Sun reported.

The Guardian newspaper said the incident happened last week.

British Airways has apologized for any distress suffered, according to the reports. The Mirror quoted BA as saying: "We apologize, but our crew were working in difficult circumstances and chose the option they thought would cause least disruption."

OMG...I have no idea how I would react to waking up to a corpse beside me and no where to go! I feel for the daughter but it would be a major creep out, especially on such a long flight!
Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

That is so sad. I pray the daughter found some peace in having a long goodbye. Some cultures prefer it that way.

I have heard of people setting up a body in the main room of the family home for an extended period of mourning.

Let's just hope that having her Mother next to the daughter like that was more of a comfort to her than a trauma.

Wow, I would have absolutely freaked out. I wonder if that was a Transatlantic flight. Otherwise, they would have landed at the nearest airport to unload the body, so says my cousin the pilot.

I don't mean to pick on you but that is just f**king funny! What is more spiritual about dying on a plane than on earth?

Anyways, I would be creeped out too. It would be one thing to know what is going on, but to wake up to a strangers corpse next to me.
I feel for the womans daughter.

I think I would scream if I woke up next to a dead body. I feel for her daughter, but if I'd have been that guy, I would politely ask to be moved to another seat. Nothing against corpses, I just don't wanna sit next to them.

I've never seen a dead person. I'm nervous enough on flights without adding corpses to my list of worries. I think that would scare me off from flying for good.

Can I just say that I have been forever traumatized due to a family vacation.... we were at Six Flags ( an amusement park) and this old lady died on The Demon, which is the smallest rollar coaster there while we were ON IT!!! She was next to her grandson who understandably freaked out and was screaming... the worst part was they wouldn't let anybody off the ride til medics got her off the ride, so I was stranded there with my step mom and brother while they got this poor lady off!! Can you imagine???

I was in Puerto Rico once and was waiting for the flight to come to the airport to come back to the states, our flight got delayed cause while taking off one of the passangers had a hear attack so they had to turn around. They kept giving CPR until they landed, the man survived. Our flight was delayed for hours and it was so scary. I think they should have a medic on flights, or maybe train attendants to help in certain situations.

It's still has to be horrible to wake up to a dead body.

Dood. That would freak me right the hell out. I'd ask to get moved out of 1st class just to avoid riding next to a corpse for several hours.

    After thinking about it..

I wouldn't mind if it was next to me

Dunno, I just couldn't let the body slide around and hit the floor, it seems so disrespectful.

Tens of thousands of people die everyday and we all have to go at some point. I'd like to think people would be cool with my corpse in that situation.

I wouldn't mind having the body beside me on the flight but then again I am working on being a licensed funeral director.

Think about it.. b/c of the rate of decomp the cool cabin was the most intelligent choice to keep the body. Now the rate of evacuation probably was sped up by the pressure in the cabin but shouldn't smell worse than a dirty diaper.

Everyone dies, everyone deserves and by law is entitled to a proper disposal, how would you feel if it was your loved one?
