Default Working on a cruise ship

Do you guys know of anyone who has worked on acruise ship before? I was just kind of wondering what that would be like. I wonder of the living conditions are cramped and if you get any time off ?

My bf looked into being a casino dealer on a cruise ship. The pay is incredible. However.
Your at sea for 6 months straight, then you get 2 or 3 off. You work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day.
Your living quarters are very small and cramped, and you usually share with a roomate.

From when i was chatting with a casino employee on a cruiseship, she explained that it's six months on and a few off for her, for others it can be three on, 1 off. depends on your contract i understand. and i assumed the quarters are cramped because cruiseship quarters are not roomy to begin with, even for passengers.

I knew a girl that worked in a gift shop, so she had time off when they were in port, and didn't have to work crazy hours. She made really good money, but spent a lot of time drunk and partying. She slept with a lot of the male employees, also.

She said it was pretty crazy, not a lot of privacy, kind of like living in a college dorm. She was able to save a lot because there is no storage space for purchases, so she only spent her money on stuff like drinks and shore excursions.

She said she liked it, but got burned out after her second "tour".

I wish I could find a message board (like SW) for cruise ship employees. I would love to get an idea of what life is really like onboard.

Never done it myself, though both my sister and I looked into it (I for massage, and her for hair). Both of us decided it wouldn't work for us. However, my aunt just got back from a cruise, and had spoken to a couple of the employees. The sea was really rough and she asked her waiter to rate from 1-10 how bad he thought the rocking was. He said 2. Then he said his first week was during hurricane/tsunami season.

Sort of. A friend of a friend worked on cruise ships for a few years and she loved it! She ended up marrying a guy who also works on the ships. Sometimes she travels all over the place with him and their son cos they get huge discounts on the fares. it sounds like a great job if you like travelling and partying.
