Default Worth stripping for just a week?

So I've been thinking of stripping for a while. My sitation is that I work freelance in my career and I usually have a 1-3 months off a year. I think dancing could be a fun way to earn some money in those down times.

So I called the club, went in for the tour, did the workshop and they seem happy for me to start work. Meanwhile the next job I'm lined up for got moved forward 2 weeks, so now there is really only 1 week where I'll be available to take stripping shifts (originally I thought I'd have at least 3 weeks where I'd be free to work).

Finally the question - should I even bother? If I take some shifts for this one week and then have to turn around and say I'm no longer availiable after that will that just piss off the club? Is it better not to start at all? I'm still very keen to dance and I want to give it a shot, maybe I'm just procrastinating I don't know!

All opinions welcome and highly appreciated!

I'm a freelance worker too and that's what I do. If the club doesn't want me back after a job, I go to a new club. There are plenty of them out there.

Thanks Yekh, I'm glad to hear it from you - my "day job" is the film industry too! So if I piss them off I can move on - good point!

Yeh you could just move around to different clubs. You prob won't make heaps of money coz you need to practice regularly to do that and esp during slow nights regulars help.
But if you only need it to supplement your regular income then any extra is a bonus.

The money really is more of a bonus. I guess for me it's more about actually giving it a try after considering doing it for so long. Putting my money where my mouth is so to speak.

I kinda want them to just call me, but I think I'll need to call them! Agh! Hate decisions.

The hardest part for me was going to the interview - much harder than actually working my first shift so I know where u r coming from.

Don't overthink it, I spent months thinking about it. Just call them, go down and then do your first shift either that night or asap.

I found the interview, well workshop, really easy. But that's because the girl taking it was one of my old pole instructors and she's really nice. The toughest part the feeling of being "outed" to her, not that she's going to judge me - she's a dancer herself! Duh!

Yes, I should call though. Yes I should.

Oh, what do you do?? I'm an AD and an APOC - I like to bounce back and forth between the set and the office, depending on the show. BTW, if it's the practice you're concerned about, you can always get a pole for your house to keep up with your dancing while you're not stripping. I did that too and I LOVE my pole.

I'm in post - the jobs last longer and I get to spend all my time in air conditioned comfort! Wahee! Plus I can still usually get on-set lunches which is the best part of being on set IMO!

I have an X-Pole which I looove (though I desperately want to upgrade to the titanium one) and I still do classes twice a week because, well, I'm an addict!

I love editorial. It's my dream job. Unfortunately I got into the industry at a different entry point and haven't been able to make that lateral shift. Good for you!

Well it can be done - a friend of mine is going from production to post and even though she's had to take a bit of a step down in pay it actually seems to be working for her! She just told a lot of folk what she wanted to do and made an effort to get to know the post folk. Meanwhile I'm all like "are you sure you want to work in post? We're the ones who show up at the wrap party and everyone goes "who are you?"

If it's really what you want just start telling ppl, it's never too late to switch!

Eh, I'm used to that from being in the office, LOL! Meanwhile they're all done with the show and I've still got another six weeks of wrapout. I'm AD'ing on a shitty little show at the moment and post is looking mighty tempting... we shall see. I was actually offered a job as an assistant editor in Brisbane but I didn't take it, which was absolutely the STUPIDEST decision I have made in all my young life. Ah well.

Ehhh, we all have those moments. Besides you would've had to go to Brisbane. And no offence to the Brisbane folk (I'm ex-Brissie myself) but it's hella boring if you compare it to LA. Plus the Aussie film industry is way small and floundering. I prefer the American films that come here - much better moola!

I LOVED Brisbane. It was totally my kind of town. Anyway I do hear you on the American exodus to Australia... it's slowed down a lot but hopefully it will pick up again. I can't believe how much production is leaving L.A. My boyfriend hasn't worked more than a month in L.A. in the past two and a half years! Everything's moving to Albuquerque, St. Louis, New Orleans, etc... I love it. Hollywood has gotten so unfriendly to film, it's about damn time film started spreading out!

Bring it on! Until they start paying properly on Aussie films I am all for the American exodus! Though we keep losing productions to NZ and Canada.

    When were you in Brissie?

I was on the Gold Coast.

And you know, American productions don't necessarily pay a living wage either... my broke ass can definitely attest to that.

Very true, very true. And of course you were on the Gold Coast! Probably in one of those lovely demountables they call production areas! I still don't see why they can't build permanent buildings!!

    Oh and they called me!

I have to do yet ANOTHER workshop on Friday. Geez talk about jumping through hoops. Well looks like I'll be working next week. Just have to figure out which days... eep!

What are these "workshops"? I've never heard of that.

Oh, and I wasn't working on the Gold Coast, I was going to uni. I got my Master's there.

Well these guys like to think they're the classiest in Sydney, so you get to do a 2hr workshop where they teach you how to do basic moves and go through what you can and can't do in the various show areas. That was Wednesday night.

Friday night is the "theory" workshop where they'll go over the money side and all the boring crap that goes along with that - I imagine. I also had to go do the "tour" as well, though that only took about 15 mins.

I think these workshops serve two purposes - firstly to impart the information, but secondly, to make sure you show up when you say you're going to! I imagine you would weed out a few timewasters doing it this way.

Yeah, wow, I've never heard of that but it's cool. I wish more clubs did that.

WTF!!!! I just got thrown in the deep end. I didn't get told how to talk to customers, money making tips or anything. That's the part I needed help with NOT the dancing part as I already knew how to pole dance.

Thanks Aussie! I hope it's as fun as I think it will be. Plus there's the added bonus that I get to say "I did that!"

I'm thinking I'll do 2-3 day shifts and if I feel comfortable maybe one night one, just to see the difference! Might be like a warm up to start slow first. There you are, they have a day shift, I bet you know exactly which club it is now!

I'll definitely let you know how it goes work-wise, but from what I saw there were at least 10 girls there at 3pm on Wednesday and more than that in punters. The interviewer mentioned they can have up to 30 girls working on a busy Saturday nite shift, which sounds like a lot.

It wasn't so much tips about how to sell dances and make money, it was more like when you're on the podium you can't go past the rail, not even a hand or your hair. When in private you can sit next to them on the couch but you must remain clothed, you can only take your clothes off on the podium and you must be dressed before you can leave the podium. All that kind of legal/licensing stuff.

The dancing stuff would be helpful for anyone who hasn't danced before, but it was all stuff I'd already done in class so I felt pretty comfy with that.

You didn't miss out on that much - really! There were no tips on how to sell/chat/hustle. Thank god for SW, eh?
