    Default The American Idol Vote

I've never watched American Idol until this season. I didn't realize callers were completely responsible for voting off the contestants.

To keep things short, I've watched the singers, and there is no way Stephanie Edwards should have been voted off tonight. Sheesh, she was one of the top three female singers on the show!

I feel bad for her because unlike some of the other contestants, she did have real talent.

There's talent on American Idol this season? Where?

I never saw it, so I quit watching. I guess keeping up with some of the good quality performers of past seasons just isn't that important to AI.

Of course...if you just started watching this season...you don't know what you missed!

There are two women, Melinda & Lakisha who IMO can sing. Lakisha in particular has a great voice.

But . . . neither of them is what most people would consider a pop idol, but when it comes to actual talent, they both have plenty.

Some of them are alright, I guess...none of them are anything I would consider impressive (they would have all been long gone if placed against contestants from past seasons).

I think they lack personality, too. Well...they just don't have personalities that stand out and make them unique.

Or maybe it's just Idol overkill. Or reality TV overkill...it's been that way for a loooooong time, though.

I think Idol this season sucks. The only good singers on the show aren't "pop material" the rest of the singers are either bad singers, or have flat personalities. I like the girl thats kind of a punk rocker, with pink streaks in her hair. Shes not a great singer, but I like her the best....

AI has NEVER been about who can sing really, it's more of a popularity contest and who can kiss the most ass.

Yep, if AI was about talent, Sanjaya would have never even made it to the point where people start voting. He has the personality of a paper bag, and he can't sing either, but 12 year old girls across the country are voting for him.

uhh I love AI and I do think there is some talent this season the problem is that there are people about there trying to discredit the competition and are set on making the worst singer be the winner. It's kinda sad playing with people like that cause that SAnjaya kid is going to get far in the competition and then is going to think He's good and then realize when people don't buy his music that he was just a joke

Plus legions of Howard Stern fans--they're trying to force a win for Sanjaya. I hope they succeed; makes for great irony.

Idealism is fine, but as it approaches reality, the costs become prohibitive.

Aww that's not fair. I mean people want to have their dreams come true and having an oportunity to be discovered is always a dream of a performer. I think the ones that are good are being watched by the big people and will have some type of record deal like Chris Doughty.

Are you serious? I hadn't heard that. If it's true, it's hilarious!

And WTF is the deal with the crying 12 year old girl???

If they had talent they wouldnt need a show to be discovered on, it would just happen. AI is like cheating the process. They dont pay their dues when they get instant fame. Let them sweat it out in dingy clubs for a few years making chump change before they get millions.

Some do, some work very hard and never get a break. Some work for clubs and have it hard. In the industry it's getting harder to become someone if you aren't jail bait and these are average people who have a passion for their craft. The people picked to be in the top 24 aren't voted in by the audience they are picked by the judges and I bet there are more talented people out there and for some reason the producers and the judges felt they didn't have what they looked for. Thousands try out but I do get what you are saying and how it seems but it isn't as easy as "Oh I woke up today and wth let me try to sing, oh I made it"

Here's the thing, American Idol is not about talent. It is about RATINGS. Fox could give a crap whether or not they have awesome talent, they want contestants that fill all the niches they are aiming towards. They need certain personalities for the show to be a success, and those personalities may not always be the most talented.

Think about the audition rounds. Before contestants make it to Paula and crew, they have to go through a judging round outside. The judges outside put really CRAPPY people through, knowing they will be ripped to shreds by Simon. Why? Because the producers know ratings will be high as long as America has something to laugh at.

its kind of a joke this year... the fact that Sonjaya is still in the mix is complete bs... i mean hes a cute kid and all, but come on now.. i thought it was supposed to be more about talent, than popularity.... My top two picks are Blake and Jordin Sparks.... i think one of the two will win it.... its kind of a shame though, how many talented people are out there that don't get a chance to showcase their talent....

Oh I know Ginger, I'm just saying that there are people who really have talent and go because they see it as an oportunity and have love for singing and it's a shame that crap happens where they get tossed to the side or even not even given a chance but this year Lakisha and Melind are fabulous and they really do have talent and even if they don't win they will become someone like Jeniffer Hudson, the one who just won an Oscar for best actress, she didn't win American Idol but she's fantastic!

Look I am a SAHM don't have much to watch and I like it lol plus I love to sing and well damn it it is entertaining

The only time I've ever watched AI was during the finals. This is my first season that I've actually ever sat down and watch a couple episodes. I too was shocked to hear that Stephanie got voted off. I think Melinda has a PHENOMENAL voice. She sends chills though me. But I still feel like eventhough AI is a popularity contest, sometimes the "losers" are the ones who end up coming out on top.

I agree about Melinda. She actually made me cry the other night with that song. It's from one of my favorite musicals and she got the feeling spot on.

I don't know, he might not be the best singer, but I really like Blake. He's got something that's very unique. I never thought I'd be into someone like him, and I can't put my finger on why; I just like him.

As far as being a loser for being a fan. I watch alot of historical dramas, independent films and British comedy. Sometimes I want mindless entertainment so I turn to reality TV. Contrived or not, it takes my mind off of life for awhile and lets me escape.

Doesn't make me a loser...or anyone else on this board who enjoys it.

Like I said this is the first time I've really watched the show. I've seen some of the past winners sing on various shows, but other than those few, I have no one to compare this seasons contestants with.

After the results this week, I doubt I'll watch the rest of the show. If it was about talent, it would be cool, but I don't care to see the best talent voted off the show just because they aren't "pop" material.
