So this month K has been working on this crappy low-budget show. For three days this week, he got better pay on a commercial, so I'm filling in for him on the show while he does the commercial. We're shooting overnights, which is always tiring and results in cranky people, but overall we have a great crew and everybody's easy to get along with.
Except the craft service lady. My first night (last night), she asked if I was here to replace K, and I said yes, and she immediately exclaimed, "Well, I hope you stay, because he's a FUCKING DICK." She went off on this long and involved rant; evidently he complained about her to a producer, who turned out to be a casual friend of hers, and she's been creating drama about it ever since. He hasn't mentioned this to me and I knew nothing of it, but I don't like getting involved in these dramas so I just said something politely noncommittal and left. A few hours later, word got around to her that K and I live together, so she came to my office and went on another convoluted melodramatic fake apology for bringing me into their "personal issues." Again, I just said something politely noncommittal.
So tonight we're going along fine; I can tell she's nuts but I've been in enough strip club dressing rooms to know how to keep my head low and stay out of the way of crazy women. Shortly after lunch, there's a lot of noise coming from craft service and they don't have enough P.A.'s to stand there and keep everyone quiet, so I came up and took that spot. I was friendly to her and everything. Then we started shooting, and right in the middle of the take she was having a fairly loud conversation with one of the grips. I did the usual thing - smile, shush, whisper "guys, we're rolling," spin a finger in the air in the universal "we're rolling" gesture.
Well, she flipped out. She loudly told me she didn't care and I had no right to be so disrespectful. We're still rolling, so I politely made the gesture and whispered that we were rolling, I meant no disrespect but she needed to be quiet. She went berserk and started yelling at me to fuck off, how dare I, etc. She was yelling, "What do you WANT? Want me to lick your BALLS?" And I was just whispering, "No, I want you to be quiet." She kept going and I was just staring at her and she goes, "What, are you SHOCKED?" And I just laughed and said, "Well, yeah." I finally gave up and figured fuck it, I did my job, let the higher-ups deal with her if she wants to keep talking. Once we cut, I explained to my boss what the issue was (which is my job; he needs to know where the noise was coming from), and he discussed it with the producer.
Next thing I know, there is this HUGE blowup that involves the entire AD staff and a lot of loud words and swearing. The bitch is under some impression that I have a personal vendetta against her and I'm trying to get her fired. (Evidently she feels the same way about K, and also without basis; if there was someone he wanted fired, I would know about it.) She kept following me around screaming at me. I'm doing everything I can to ignore her and she's still screaming the f-word at me, telling me she hates my face, calling me a bitch, threatening me, blah blah. I switched positions with a P.A. and got out of her way for awhile.
Hours later, the producer comes into my office to deliver a sermon on respect and how everyone on the crew is equal and no one is more important than anyone else and how sometimes misunderstandings happen but we need to move on. He basically told me to go make nice with her or be fired. I gave him the same polite you-got-it treatment and he assured me he'd talked to her and she would be okay if I just apologized for the "misunderstanding."
So later I wind up standing next to her and we have to be quiet and still because they're rolling again. I gave her a polite smile but before I could say anything she became outraged and started whispering angrily, "Don't you fucking smile at me. How dare you. Who do you think you are, you fucking BITCH? I know what you're doing and" blah blah blah. I just shrugged and said wearily, "Listen, I don't want to fight with you." She barked, "YES YOU ARE, DON'T YOU FUCKING LIE TO ME, YOU FUCKING WHORE BITCH," etc. At that point I ignored her and that made her even more furious.
So now I've got this fucking drama to deal with. I don't need it. I only have one more night on this show and I'm just going to stay out of her way as much as possible, but I'm concerned this is going to wind up involving K and make all the next week difficult for him.
What possesses these psychobitches?? Honestly, I did NOTHING to this woman. I never even met her before yesterday. I don't need drama at work, especially at four in the morning. *sigh*
