    Default Stripper phases

This question is for the veterans, what are the phases that a typical SW type dancer goes through the first couple of years?

During the first few months you figure out how it works, and how to stand up for yourself while still making money (standing up to the pressures of custies wanting more, and other girls). Maybe it takes like 6 months to a year of figuring out how your style fits the game. At some point you reach a burnout a phase, and then you rediscover what it is that you like about your job in the first place. Then there is also the blowing money to saving money lesson. Ahh, so many things to learn.

I say SW type dancer because clearly we are not the norm.

One of my phases is my motivational levels. There are times when I'm feeling like "Yeah, I'm going to work 5 days this week and bank!!" And there are times when something good is on TV and I'm like "Ehh, I'll just go to work tomorrow".
And also, when I was kinda new to dancing, if I had an awsome night, I would still go to work the next night and make more money. Now, if I have a good night, I'll be like "this is enough for the next few days", instead of getting off my ass to try and have another good night.

I've been dancing for a year and a half but only moved from primarily stage to a heavy hsutle environment in the past year. In Feb 2006 I bought Superflirt & the Psychology of Selling... July I bought the DW Course... since about Nov 2006 I would consider myself a good to above average hustler/great stage performer. In the past few weeks I've started relying on motivational quotes to keep me going and solid, very articulated financial goals.

hmmm well i havent danced for too long...around 6-7 months..ive gone thru a few phases.

at verry first, i was excited n nervous...just only thinking of the glamourus side of stripping. when it came to customers..i was quite unexperienced. i let customers waste my time...when i wasnt getting any money, you know?

then i got over the "honey moon phase" of stripping. i realized it wasnt all just glamour, and realized it was a job. i took it for granted, but now i realize im lucky to be able to do this job, so i must take it seriously.

im sure there are more phasses 2 come...

I actually think it's pretty similar to the four phases of culture shock, just in a different context. have a read:

Hahah... Yes, I've been through all of the phases sunnie mentioned. I'm glad I'm not the only one who blew a ton of money at first on stupid stuff now that I think about it.. the money seemed neverending, and I didn't plan ahead and think, "Hm, one day I might actually need to have some money saved up".. I am all about saving money now and using cheaper products, etc..
I thought I noticed after about a year I seemed to be a lot wiser about the whole dancing thing.. hopefully I stay that way at least for awhile!

Phase one: The drunken party phase. You love your job and the money is incredible and you party all the time! Phase one lasts 3-6 months

Phase two: Drama. Rumors. Management bullshit. The dancer starts to feel righteous indignation at times and thinks to herself "Why do I have to give up 40% of my income to the club and in tips? What kind of job makes you do that?" The money is still better than anywhere else you've ever worked, so you keep at it, maybe start traveling or switch clubs. This phase lasts a year or two.

Phase Three: Goals and dreams. At this point in her exotic dancing career a girl has to face the fact she has been dancing for several years, and needs to really get some focus. She starts actively perusing an education or other plan for the future. In this phase dancer's start using phrases like "After I graduate, I'm never dancing again." or "As soon as I have enough money to open my own business, I'm outta here!" Phase three can last up to 10 years, but generally only lasts about 5-7 years at most.

Phase four: Lifer. Can switch to feature status or be happy working as a house dancer. She will probably stick with dancing into her late 30's and possibly into her 40's (this would be me).

Most dancers quit in phase one or two. Sometimes I wish I did...

virgoamm, It is alot like culture shock--never really thought about that. I think I'm in phase three--shock and on the verge of either quiting soon or coming to terms with dancing for a long time.

I am in the post-stripper stage. Some days I miss it HUGE, and then when I see the crap girls deal with today... I am glad I am out.....but I will admit I do miss entertaining!

But also glad that I have kept a few toes in the business...my "after life" business is based on what I had learned from this industry. Now I teach girls to keep their heads straight, and keep the money they make,so that when they hit that "post stripper" stage, they have something to show for the years they have invested!!

I have observed and been intrigued by these progressions.

Daytona is a small town, everyone has worked at every club there. I have worked with many newbies and then watched them progress, drop out, or stagnate (sometimes they bounce back, too).

I think Paris' 4 stages are spot on, but maybe optimistic--fewer and fewer make it to each stage. Most of the women I knew didn't make it past 6 months, and the 4th stage is sadly rare. It's a tough business, no question about it.

And unfortunately, Phase 5: Dancers who keep dancing longer than they should have. Are bitter at their declining income, and who approach customers with an attitude like we "owe" them a dance, and wonder why we don't buy. Please stop before phase 5.

I wonder if that can work in a small club envirnment w/ a lot of "ghetto custies"? If I use a word with more than two syllables(sp?) , the custies look at me funny like they don't understand

Oh, hell....I've seen brand-new-to-the-stage dancers that fit this description! Management will put anyone with a pulse in rotation in some clubs (gotta get those house fees).

my fav phrases i use in the bar that make me feel better to say are......"Bigger Tipper happier Stripper" and when they try to negotiate a price for a dance I tell them "I'm not a car salesman" they might not be motavational but they sure make me more self confident.

i would like to get to the phase where i am making enough money to burn but insted save it for my future. right now, im making enough to pay the bills but nothing more.

im in beginner stage. still learning total confidence and to be less friendly and more sexy. getting very good at not having my time wasted and walking away from losers. not had a regular yet but had many very interested in coming back to see me so i give them my myspace page to see my schedule. ive stopped smoking and i dont drink at work anymore. im learning to approach EVERY customer and ask for the dance as soon as possible. ive learned that making the customer feel like im interested in him doesnt mean i have to spend 15 minutes asking him questions, it can mean just looking him in the eye, touching his arm, laughing and smiling, which takes 3-5 minutes before asking for a dance.

i did this job for 6 months in 2004 and then came back to it 3 months ago. so i would say i have only 6 months experience because i didnt learn very much for half the time i first did this.

i am aiming to get to a point where i am making good money. like going home with AT LEAST £200-£300 a night and i think i will get there by summertime. so another 3 months.

i cant wait to get to the place where i am building some serious savings!

And the enivitable question - what effect all these phases have on an individual?

Are they benficial - in that a dancer becomes more self confident, earns better money than in an alternative occupation and maybe secures her long term future through study/investments, etc?

Are they detrimental - in that a dancer maybe picks up an alcohol problem or in the end becomes very cynical about men?

As an outsider looking in, I'd say this profession definately changes girls.

    Stages in BC/Western Canada

Phase 1: rookie status. You're new, you're fresh, everyone loves you, you think you're the shit! it's great while it lasts...usually a year or two.

Phase 2: bitterness as you become not-so-fresh, the agents start to overlook you in favour of newer girls, customers are kind of bored of you...sucks!

Phase 3: burnout after months in phase 2. You quit, "screw this I'm getting a real job!".

Phase 4. Real job sucks, stripping idealized in the mind, plans to go back to stripping.

Phase 5: back to stripping. Enter phase one for a short term, 4-6 months.

    Repeat steps 2-5 indefinitely.

cant speak for anyone else, but for me...

first 4 months were honeymoon period.worked every night, loved it.
next year and a half was spent hating it, trying to justify the moral implications of the industry
the following year was just normal i think. i went to work, i was happy, i started to apply sales techniques-finally, and learnt to SMILE on stage, and be nice to people lol
and the past year and a half has been awesome, ive really projected myself in the club to make money, i no longer feel the guilt of taking money off the guys, and i smile tonnes, and constantly use sales techniques, and hussle my ass off.

i was a late bloomer. it took me a long time to get the confidance i have now to approach guys, and take their money without feeling guilty. now theres nothing stopping me!!

Dude, are you the same person you were a year ago? Change is inevitable.

this is a comparison question...not a OMG what has stripping done to me. Like I said, SW girls are different.
