Default When your primary care doctor is arrested..

and his medical liscense is revoked, and his office is closed, where do the medical records go?
I've discussued issues revolving around this recently in another thread. For the life of me I cannot obtain my medical records and I badly need them in order to go see a new physician here in California. I called Dr. Brown's (the arrested doctor's) office in MA and there is just a recording saying if you need to obtain your records, send letter, photo ID, etc, and they will send them out to you. I did that over a month ago and still nothing. Meanwhile my medical situation is starting to become unbearable and I need to get back on my old prescription. I have called several doctor's offices here in Cali and explained my situation. All of them said that they would need my medical history in order to prescribe me the anti-anxiety med I am requesting that has worked for me in the past. My hands are so tied, and I do not know what to do at this point. I was thinking of sending a family member in MA to try and pick up the med records for me, but I have no clue where they'd even be.
Sorry to be a bother with all this insanity.

Is there any way you can go to another doctor and have that doctor evaluate you?

I'd be open to that, but if they didn't believe me for whatever reason, or wanted to try "a different alternative" rather than prescribing what I know works for me, I'd be right back where I started. Minus $150, or whatever since I dont have health ins.

Aha I see, well do you have a prescription of medication? Can you call the pharmacy you use and try to have proof of you have been under prescription care?

Tart mentioned that she used to do that with walgreens. I used cvs. I asked a few of the dr office's that I called if a "proof of script history" would help my situation and they both pretty much said it was up to the doc.

Your best bet is to find a new doc and go in and explain your situation in person and bring either an old bottle with you or print out the history of your prescriptions from CVS. You're going to have to see soemone else no matter what. Either they're going to prescribe it or not, it's a chance you're going to have to tak. Even if you have all your med records, the new doc may want to try something else on you. You may as well just go and stop suffering. The anxiety is giving you anxiety about going to the doctor. Trust me, i know how it feels, because it's happened to me.

agreed. Also, were it me, I wouldn't even try to explain this situation to reception...it's just too convoluted, ya know? Some medical receptionists can be real pit bulls anyhow, ESPECIALLY to new patients. Choose a doctor, call and make your appointment. I wouldn't even tell them that the doc was arrested, license revoked etc. You are not responsible for nor do you need to explain anything about the other doctor. Don't you have to sign some sort of release form and give them the old docs name, number and addy anyhow? Let THEM deal with getting your medical records.

Just explain to the doctor what is going on (with you personally). Describe your symptoms and previous treatments that you've tried and that were successful. Bring your script bottle. A good doctor wants to help you get better, not suffer. Feel better, chica.
