Default Do you wear a watch??

My 1 and only dancer buddy and I were having this discussion when we left work last week. I told her I was thinking about getting a watch because sometimes I still get sidetracked (terrible terrible I know) So she agreed and told me that actually having a watch is very helpful.

She said if she's talking with a customer and he doesn't want a dance right then, she'll either a)tell them she'll be back or if it's slow in the club b) obviously look at her watch to let him know that her time is valuable. She told me if a guy asks her why she has the watch, she tells him the true, "time is money" Either they respect it or they don't. Oh, and she also said having a watch helps her to end her VIP time a little sooner.

Why would anyone question WHY you have a watch? Dont most people wear watches? I always find it odd when I see someone who doesnt wear one....

I never used to wear one but I do now and I feel lost without it.

It ws so weird how I acquired m watch. I complimented a girl's beatiful silver and diamond watch at the club one night and she insisted I take it. I politely declined and she insited I take it, my best friend told me to go ahead, it was a sentimental thing, she absolutely hated it. I think it tells a story; the face wsa cracked and a few diamonds missing- she must've threw it at the ex or something.
Still weird for a complete stranger to give up their beautiful expensive watch.

Yeah I wear one all the time now...........

Well she told me some customers really do want to know why a dancer wears a watch. She said sometimes they just wanna know why she keeps looking at it. That is when she tells him her time is valuable..

I've never worn a watch, at work, or otherwise. I have very good intuition about time, and I'm afraid if I get one I'll screw that up.

I think if you wear one at work, you should be very discreet about checking it, so you don't accidently come off as bored. But I don't see why a guy would question you about just wearing it... most people do wear watches after all.

Something that helps is that I wear a very small faced watch to work (my wrists are small and I have to wear children's watches for them to fit) and I get one with a pretty band and wear the watch face on the inside of my wrist. No one even knows it's a watch due to it being so small, turned around, and usually mixed with other bracelets.

I wear NO arm/hand jewelry at work. Don't wanna scratch up anything on the pole or get my hair caught in it. There are usually a bazillion people at the club who have em on so I can ask. And it's a great hint to a time wasting customer if you ask THEM what time it is.

^^^ I'm with Paige. I don't like to have stuff on my wrists, and it makes a point well enough to ask for the time, as well as a convenient segue for selling that dance NOW.

I agree about the no-watch wearing. I mean, being consious of the songs as they go by- that's a pretty good indicator of the time passing. Also, if I need to know the exact time I just check my cellphone.

But I've never been a watch wearer in my life. I'm pretty good at finding clocks though.

I wear a watch as decoration, the time is wrong and you can't read it in the dungeon where I work.. I use songs and drinks (if i am sitting which can be rare) to tell time. 3 songs, and no dance yet, im gone!

I wear a watch, it usually is a great conversation piece. I wear quirky watches like Hello Kitty, and The Smurfs.

yeah, its pretty much nessesary in every club Ive worked at here because you need to know when your on stage and how long your dances go for as they are by set amounts of time rather than per songs more of ten than not.

This is the main reason why I do not wear a watch at work. I can easily damage it doing pole work or even some floor work moves and so forth. I only wear my wrist wallet at clubs where I have to keep my money on me and then I remove that when I'm on the stage (and keep it out of reach of patrons/customers).

I also use the time thing as a way to deter time wasters by asking them about the time plus it can work the other way... it can be a good conversation starter.

If they don't have a watch then they will have a mobile on them which has the time on it.

Another main reason I do not wear a watch -- I'm a serial "look at my watch every 5 minutes" person and thus the time ticks by really slowly when I wear a watch. I rather be "ignornace is bliss" in that department so then the time can go by more quicker esp. on sloooow nights.

i dont wear a watch because i dont have one. i dont have one because a watch would cover up my favourite tattoo on the inside of my wrist.

I voted no but my "no" wasn't for the reason listed in the poll.

I learned early on that the main reason to avoid wearing a watch is similar to the reason why there are no clocks in a casino. You want the customers to loose track of time and keep spending as long as possible. A watch will remind the customer of time or even remind him to check his own watch. This can result in him thinking he just spent X amount in only X amount of time. That isn't what you want going through his mind

A trick to keep track of time for yourself is to remember that most clubs limit song length to around 3 minutes. So just keep in mind that 3 songs is usually about 10 minutes of time.

I would choose no, only because I use my cell phone to see the time. Watch or no watch, makes no difference to me.

It's a requirement to wear a watch at my club. We have to synchronise our watches with my clubs clock and if we are more than 5 mins late to a table we get fined $30. There is no way I would risk not wearing one and it costing me $30.

I'll admit that I like when dancers wear watches because it allows me to discreetly check the time and decide if I should get some dances before I leave or if it's really time to go.

my last club BANNED watches. I hated that. I need a watch for my VIP hustle. I need to know when the end is getting near so I can pile on the charm.

Right! At my last club, sometimes the bouncers would "forget" the girl was in there. I hated trying to manuever my body in a pose that I could read the custy's watch and try to sweet talk them into extra time. I always got another VIP if I had a few minutes to spare to ask them for more time. Better off me asking then some big loud bouncer jumping in there (yes, they would run in there kinda like they wanted to startle the custy) screaming, "HEY ck TIMES UP BABY..HEY SIR YOU WANNA STAY ANOTHER 30" goodness I hated that

    I love my watch!

Ignorance isn't bliss, it's ignorance. Knowing the time is just as important as knowing when to go onstage. My preparedness depends on it.

My watch has an indigo switch so I can read the time in the dark. It's a black, waterproof, rubber watch. It doesn't stand out and has a pretty slim design. It's nothing fancy at all and eventhough it takes a serious beating at work, it's still going strong.

I wouldn't say that I'd be lost without my watch, but I do see the difference when I don't wear it and it's a comfort that keeps me on top of my game.

Ya em, my club doesn't allow them, but some girls get around it by wearin a charm bracelet type watch...

    I just count songs. 9-10 in a 1/2 hour.

i wore one a few times and i didn't like the response.

#1 i -can't help- looking at it, which makes customers nervous.
#2 when i wear one, customers ask me what time it is and are more aware of how long they've been in the club, spening money.

there's a reason that many bars, clubs, restaurants, etc. don't have clocks out in the open. the more you lose track of time - the more money you are likely to spend.

that being said, i would wear one if it wasn't obvious... like if it just looked like a bracelet.

(afterthought) lol... wouldn't it be nice if they made a watch you could type a display message into(and you have to click a button for the actual time)? then you could have it say "TIME FOR VIP" or "time for more dances!" as the display message. when customers ask what time it is, you just have to show them your watch.

Hahha, how about just flicking your wrist and saying it's time for more dances
