Moving: tell me about your area? HELP!

I'll list the things I'm searching for in a place/town/whatever. I'm open to moving out of the country, if it would be a good change.
    • Family friendly (I'm a single mom w/8 yr. old girl)
    • Sunny, little rain, not too hot (if possible), doesn't change temperature at rapid paces (I have horrible allergies)
    • Low pollution level
    • Community College in area
    • Good grade schools
    • Rent isn't too high (I pay $700 now for a 2 bdrm, and that difficult)
    • Good dance club(s) in the area
    • Extra-curricular activities for my daughter (swim, music, ect.)
Pretty much, I'm going to have to start dancing again due to a change in my relationship status (recent). I'm in a city where I didn't try very hard to make friends (too wrapped up in family stuff, and depressed). I finally started school again in summer term, but missed last term (due to changes). I am just having the hardest time figuring out what to do. I have a couple of wonderful friends, and my family helps with my daughter (sometimes), but I just don't want to move back near them.

THIS IS SO CONFUSING!! So, I'm in a place where I really don't know anyone, that isn't my ex's friend (he's lived here 13+ years), but my daughter is in a good school. I live right behind the college, so it's easy to get to.

I know it seems it would make sense to stay and deal, and try to make friends (I don't really know how!). I just feel very lost and alone right now. Yeah, I know that's common after break-ups, but I still feel horrible.

For the ladies: please also read my post in the Ladie's section to get an even better idea of my situation.

Oh, I'm not dancing yet. Trying to avoid it until the last second, which is coming up fast.

    ALL HELP APPRECIATED!

Not sure where a good place for you is..but vegas would not be a good area for you.

  3. Not family friendly.
Very sunny, however, no rain, and very very hot.
I would assume pretty high pollution
We do have a community college
    No clue abtou grade schools
Rent is way to high. a 2 bedroom in a good area is easily a minimum of $800 a month.
Extra curricular activities in Vegas involve gambling, going to strip clubs, drinking, or going out to look at red rocks.

Look into the Phoenix area. I would check out Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Chandler. All great places to live and family friendly. Cost of living here is cheap, clubs are pretty decent and you are close enough to make a trip to Vegas each month. The only downside is it gets HOT in the summer! Not unbearable tho, I just hang out in the pool all day.

I believe all the information you seek can be found if you make a list of the cities you're interested in and do a little online research. For instance, I know Austin has an allergy index on the newspaper's website 'cause they suck so hard there (on the above list Austin and ATL are the only cities I've seen with allergy reports on the nightly news). And of course it's very simple to find out what the weather is like on average using Weather Underground.

Every city that's big enough to have decent clubs (and many that aren't) will have a community college (and activities for kids, and a neighborhood with good schools) so I don't think you need to worry about that too much. You can look at local listings to get an idea of what the rental market is like, and then start researching the club scene in those cities.

    I second this!

The Phoenix area is by far the best place I have ever lived. I know I've said it before, but I'm really sad to be leaving.

I'm moving in 2 weeks. Boyfriend lives in Napa, CA, so I'm going back there. I wanted to stay here as long as I could work, because the money is much better than at the clubs in San Francisco, but now that I can't work anymore, California, here I come!

There is a club about an hour north of Madison, WI (in the Wisconsin Dells area). It is called Cruisin Chubbys. You can check out their web site. The club is very nice and the girls do make good money (it is a tourist area). It is also a strict one-way touch club. No extras going on.

Wisconsin has winters (don't know if you can hack that based on your description). Community is nice, and schools are nice.

Midwest, maybe? Bozeman, MT, seems to be a happy family kinda place with lotsa kid stuff and a couple(?) local colleges, and there are two good stripclubs in driving distance.

Thanks everyone. Susan, I would do the online searches but I like to hear how things are straight from people living there.
I really don't like snow, or anywhere too cold. I have no idea what cities I'm looking for. It's a general, try to find a nice place post.
Keep posting for me, if you know of more places. Thanks!!

I live in Wisconsin-don't move here if you don't like cold weather! It gets brutally cold here in the winter. It's family friendly here, but the strip club scene pretty much sucks for the most part. Honestly, if it weren't for my family and friends, I probably would've moved a long time ago.

I think you would like the Phoenix area. The cost of living is reasonable and there are plenty of strip clubs there with good earning potential. The only drawback is that it gets really hot there in the summer, but I would rather have it too hot than too cold.

If you want to stay in Oregon, Eugene is pretty decent. I know that there are many great neighborhoods and schools. The clubs here are pretty divey, but I make great money. Also, one member here travels to clubs in other cities and I'm certain does very well. Eugene is a good area to commute out of if you must.

Come to Sacramento, CA girl. I will totally help you out with info if you need it. I live downtown here, the weather is nice and there are tons of dance clubs in the downtown area. I commute to the club I work at (only 15 minutes) and the girls make $300-$1000+ a night. I pay $625 for a cool 2 bdrm within 2 blocks of tons of restaurants and clubs. There are 3 community colleges within 15-20 minutes of here, grade schools with good reps, and Sacto is 1 1/2 drive from San Francisco and about the same from Reno (45 min plane ride to Las Vegas), so if you ever need to make fast $$, team up with some of the girls at our club and they will show you the ropes, as they often go there on weekends/special events. Plus, downtown is very cultural. There is a lot of music/art, and our downtown park has kids' swimming for like $.45 a session. You will love it here and be able to get the fresh start you're looking for. I know I sound like the Sacramento recruiting organization, but whatever....good luck with whatever you decide.

    • Family friendly - so so, I don't have kids but I survived growing up here.
    • Sunny - for sure, but HOT in the summer, expect weeks of 99+ weather. We do have an allergy season too.
    • www.pima.edu Cheap too.
    • Public school system is disgusting. We've got kids graduating high school that can't even read and write. Many private schools offer scholarships, so go private!
    • Rent is getting higher, but $700 for a two bedroom is totally doable.
    • Clubs are mediocre. You're looking at $5-10 dances all around.
    • Huge youth soccer thing here, lots of kids karate things too. Oh and great music lessons with my younger bro.
