    Default vertical split

Ok...I can do a split on the floor....but when I try to do a vertical split on the pole...nada. I get my foot up on the pole and I cant pull myself in to be closer then arms length from crotch to pole..WTF? Why can I do a horizontal split..but not a vertical one?
People always ask me, did I ever learn anything when I was a stripper? Yeah, I did. One man plus two beers equals 20 dollars.

Can you lean forward when you do a split on the floor, to touch your face to your knee? If not, there's you're problem!

Yes I can actually....I'm double jointed and, admitttedly, not as limber as I was when i was younger..but damn!! I'm not trying to turn myself into a freakin' pretzel..I'm just trying to do teh exact same move standing up as I can do on the ground. It's frustrating.

Stand with your back against the wall and have someone lift your straightened leg and press it back for you (towards your head/ wall)

you're going against gravity, so it is harder...

being able to lie on your leg in the floor split is step 1

and strength to fight gravity is the second thing.

how are your high kicks? if you can do a straight leg high kick to face height and catch it (and hold it), there should be no reason why you can't do the pole thing. is your supporting leg turned out?

    practise it without the pole...

(just don't blow your back messing around with it)

Flexibility-wise I could do that....but I'm a huge clutz and I'm sure I'd propel myself back into the wall if i did it!
