Default Careerbuilder.com, Monster.com how effective are these sites?

I just want some temporary work for a few months to take care of a bill. These sites have lots of job listings...as I was filling out the applications I was wondering if it was too good to be true. Just send out 20 or 30 apps and the people call back if they are interested?

I'm not looking for resume-type jobs just the hourly stuff. Has anyone gotten a job this way? How long will should I wait for a call back before looking elsewhere?

Yes they are very much legit. if you're lookin for some temporary employment look in your phone book under temp agencies. You'll hear something much faster if you go the temp agency route. They have tons of jobs and sometimes more jobs than they have applicants for. Good luck!

I've heard they arn't very effective as the employers have 4559350934090590395 people applying for one space.

They're legit, but expect to find a LOT of scams and spam on there. Personally, I feel you'd be better off contacting an actual temp agency.

Oh I'm not going to apply to any of those stay-at-home/make $2000 in a hour stuff. In my city most of the hourly positions are from Home Depot, ToysRus, Walgreens, Applebees. I was just wondering if I could avoid driving to all those places as to save gas and just apply online.

I will also look into the temp agencies. Will I have to dress up just to walk in the first time?

The local unemplyment agency seems to have some leads also- am I exempt from using them because I'm not on unemployment?

My company contacted me through Monster, where I had a resume sitting. I've been there for over a year and am doing well....

For a temp agency it depends. If you're walking in wanting an "office" type job then yea you're gonna need a nice blouse and slacks. If it's for "blue collar" work like a warehouse, then no come as is.

You could always look into the Sunday paper..see if your local store still has any that weren't bought.

If you're on a job hunt, it wouldn't hurt to try monster and careerbuilder, just be prepared to filter through the stupid crap that gets on there and wastes space. I'm not saying it's not worth it. I do know people who have found good stuff on there.

As for temp agencies, or any placement agency (permanent or temp), if they want you to come in for a face-to-face meeting, be prepared to look presentable and put-together....nothing too professional looking, It's usually not necessary at that stage of the game and for basic jobs you might be looking for.
