    Default one clogged ear

i don't know what's been up..if it's allergies, a sinus infection, or a cold. nevertheless last weekend my throat was killing me so i took ibuprofen and my nose was stuffy and runny. fast forward a few days later and one ear (the left one) is clogged up. i can't hear much out of it so i have only one good ear for now. i can actually feel the clogged up ear as more "pressurized" than the other one.

my question is, do you think it's a good idea to hold my nose and exhale quickly so as to "pop" the left ear? or would that just hurt and rupture my eardrum?

You could try that gently. If you blow too hard, you could rupture your eardrum. Try Sudafed. Also, try neo-synephrine nasal spray...but for no longer than three days. Also, when you have time to just lay around, lay with that ear on the upside. Hopefully, these things will help your ear drain.

Oh god, my ears have been clogged up for about a year a half now. It's not really anywhere near as bad as at the start (obviously) but for a while I was almost deaf. Holding my nose and blowing would often help, but sometimes it just made them crackly. One time I tried so hard I nearly passed out.

Get something for allergies that is meant to dry stuff up.

I don't even really notice my ears are blocked anymore except for the instance where they'll unblock for like a minute and everything is so loud it freaks me out.

My ear got sooo clogged one time that I actually went to the doctor. They can use this strong suction thing to clean your ear out. It's gross to see what comes out though, so I was glad I went to get that shit cleaned out. Try going to a clinic and they'll either do that or give you a prescription ear drop that will clear it out. Also, you could have an ear infection like "Swimmer's ear". I think you should go to the doctor/clinic if it don't go away in like a day or two.

My ear just did this a few weeks ago. For me it wasn't, it wasn't popped, it almost felt blocked. Things were muffled and weird and I felt pressure. I would suggest getting your ears cleaned by a doctor. But if that doesn't work for you right now, here's what worked for me as a temporary fix.....

2x a day, mix a bit of hydrogen peroxide and water (and 1/2 & 1/2) and put a few drops into your ear. Tilt your head to let it drain. This will loosen any debris that is in your ear. During or after a warm shower works best. Do this for about a week and it should clear up.

That being said, I wouldn't advise using q-tips. Every time you do, little bits of cotton come off into your ear canal. It eventaully gathers us alot and mixes with all the 'normal' debris and hardens (as opposed to the normal debris clearing itself out naturally). In my mom's case, hers went INTO her ear canal and became infected and they had to surgically remove it. Talk about crazy. It swelled up the entire side of her face and nose. That's not to say you should use anything else (like a pen cap for example)....that just pushes the earwax deep into your ear and cuases it to harden in the same way.

And yeah, the stuff that comes out of your ear when a doctor does it is disgusting. i really need to get it done.

I had the same problem since I was 8 with not being able to hear from my left ear, then I tried ear coning, and after 5 appts I can hear great!!!! Maybe you should try that is also will clean out your sinus!!!

Just call around to find someone that does it, I feel really great now that I had it done.
