Default rhinoplasty pre op facial imagining

I have just been sent a booklet from a plastic surgeon who I might get to do my rhinoplasty and he requires you to get an "independent facial surgery planning and advise" thing by a place called METAMORPHICS - they do facial imagining and they help u design the nose that u want to end up with and they do measurements etc and then u take the images to the surgeon. He is apparently the best in Melbourne and he requires patients to do this. It's an extra $500 for this.

Has anyone done this before their surgery?

I know MermaidNZ you just got rhino done. Did you do this?

may I ask what surgeon you are thinking about going to or is this a bit private to disclose?

Bryan Mendelson - in Toorak but his prices might not allow me to. I haven't yet been given a quote but I have been told he is very expensive.

    My other options are:

Keith Mutimer, Chris Coombs and Dr. Moss (I cant remember his first name)

Excuse me, I am going out on a limb here--but why on earth are you getting a nose job? Are you quite sure it's necessary?

I have read countless posts written by people drooling profusely all over each others' photographs here. Occasionally it is merited, but usually it strikes me as being contrived and overdone--so automatic and common as to render compliments on physical appeal here completely meaningless, in my mind.

This may sound elitist, but I am an artist who has done a fair amount of portraiture, so I have more stringent requirements for beauty than most, perhaps.

The pictures I saw of you did not indicate any need for rhinoplasty, whatsoever. I urge you to reconsider this expensive, painful, and I suspect entirely pointless measure.

Gotta jump on the bandwagon here, I really think you'd just be wasting a lot of money on a very small and unnecessary change. I've seen people with nice noses get rhinoplasty, and while they're down quite a few thousand, I can hardly tell they've even had work done. :\

    $500?! lol

a good plastic surgeon would know what shape of nose would suit your face anyways. my ps just done a quick computer pic to show me a realistic outlook of how my nose can/will look.

im only 2 weeks post op, so there still a bit of swelling, but id say he was pretty close to the comp image he done.

i dont see how spending $500 is going to make your nose any better, its up to the PS to do it right anyways

Jai has had her heart set on doing this for a while so as much as we may not think she needs it a doubt very highly we are going to change her opinion i think we just need to be supportive of her rather than trying to talk her out of it.

ps im not trying to be bitchy sorry if it sounds that way

Nono, that makes sense Kitty. I mean, if it's something that bothers you, Jaizane, and you've got the dough to change it then you might as well right?

Well thank-you everyone it's very sweet to hear such nice compliments.

This is the history that led to me wanting rhinoplasty:

    - when i was about 14 someone at school said I had a big nose
    - this was when i first realised that I do have a big nose
    - ever since then i have really obsessed with the idea of getting it fixed

    - in recent years i have either grown into my nose or come to accept myself more

    - i am just going for a consult to discuss options. i am not 100% decided on whether I will go ahead with the surgery.

But thank-you all for saying I dont need one. Maybe I will listen to u and not get one, I am starting to think I dont but I have thought about it for so many years now that it's weird to change my mind.

You do not have a big nose!!!!
When I was at school people told me I had big ugly eyes and a stick out butt and fat lips aswell as having skin that was the colour of dog poo. As I got older and so did the people around me, all of that changed and people started saying nicer things about my eyes, lips, skin and butt. I bet no-one has told you you have a big nose for years! Dont let childhood insults effect your life anymore!

Let me just say that I'm a pretty picky biatch, but your face just screamed "perfect 10" to me. You're one of the last people I would expect to have your nose done!

But I mean, you know you and we don't. So if you go ahead with the surgery it sounds like a very good doctor and more power to you! That facial imagining thing sounds great, so that doctor and patient can best communicate on what the best outcome should be.

This is all wrong. You do not have a big nose. The dumb fucking kid was full of shit, and probably trying to fuck with you since he was intimidated by your looks.

I am very glad you are undecided. Think long and hard before you change what looks so good in those pictures in the picture post area. I am not trying to be unsupportive, far from it.

    ^^^ AGREED (with Djoser).

Jaizaine, you are beautiful... but more than that, you most CERTAINLY do not have a big, or even moderately-in-need-of-attention-nose.

I think that it sounds like you've used your nose as a target for some negative self-image/self-esteem issues from your past... before you go through with surgery, ask yourself if surgery is putting a band-aid on the problem or actually dealing with it. just a thought.

when I was 17, having already been diagnosed EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified), I went in for a consultation at the new gym I was joining (it was mandatory), and part of the consult was to use calipers, a scale, other body measurements, and lastly, to tell me (at 5'3 and 125, mostly muscle) "well, you may want to lose 5 lbs." Now, to say this to a girl with horrible body image and teetering self-esteem makes a statement like that the straw that breaks the camel's back. A week later I stubbornly worked at making myself learn how to throw up, and consequently I have been bulimic for the past 8 years and barely over 100 lbs... not good. It has pretty much ruined my life in more ways than I could tell you. I am not trying to make unsolicited comparisons between my past and your decision to get your nose done, nor am I implying that there are self-destructive/masochistic components inherent in some aspects of plastic surgery and eating disorders... I am simply trying to illustrate the power of other peoples' persuasion upon us when we don't have the soundest esteem. Just give it some thought first.

I will go for the consult and I will post the before and after (image not surgery) here.

Thanks for being so supportive everyone. I just love SW most for the supportive members!

Most eating disorders are triggered (not caused triggered) by what a person says. I have been no stranger to bulimia so your post def hit home with me.
