Default f**king water restrictions in melbourne

I am soooo over the water restrictions. For those who don't know we have been declared in drought - well country victoria has and we have had so little rain here that we are now on stage 3 or 4 (i lost count) water restrictions. We are not allowed to water lawns or gardens, wash the car, supposed to have 2 min showers etc. People who get caught breaking the rules have had their water supply limited to a trickle.

I know there isn't much that can be done but it's terrible. I filled my fish pond the other day - I am not going to let my fish die.

Our farmers are really suffering and are unable to feed their livestock. It's a real problem.

    Ahhh Im just ranting.

Wow 2 minute showers, how do they expect people to do that?

Jazinne, feeling sorry for you and the others in Melbourne, hope your winter is full of rain!

I'm sure my old house's garden looks like shit...

Odd I remember when I first moved they I wore an oilskin for about 8 months, it seemed to rain and rain....

Yeah wow, it takes me like 2 minutes to shampoo alone. My b/f always teases me that I take 45 minute showers. (More like 20 minutes in reality, lol) Anyway I really hope it gets better for you soon!!

I remember when so cal was in a drought ~ late 80's or so. Same conditions, not allowed to wash cars or water lawns...there was some sort of citizens patrol that would follow the water trickles along the curb back to the source and report the offending homeowners to authorities. They didn't limit our showers to 2 minutes but I'm sure there was some sort of suggestion.

I remember the bumper sticker trend on filthy cars was something to the effect of "excuse my dirt, we're saving water" or something stupid like that.

^ haha we have lame ads saying "are you a water saver" and the person on the ad explains how they are saving water.

They have even considered recycling sewage water and treating it - I certainly wont be drinking it if that happens.

d00d... we are about to go to level 5 here in SEQ...

that means you can't even wash your car with a bucket anymore, max 4 minute showers, heaps of businesses are going to go tits up.

i just wish the collective consciousness would focus on rain instead of drought (laws of attraction etc)..

there was some reprieve on the news last night re: ooh, a tiny bit of monsoonal rain that *might* come... a bit late, now we're at the end of our alleged monsoon season.

I lived there up until August of last year. I was OS for about 14 years, 4 in NZ (Auckland) the rest in Melbourne, with out of state visits to Adelaide and Sydney.

I might go outside and do a rain dance! Or if I could wash my car then I'd wash it coz that usually means rain.

Born in the US, exported to Australia in my teens, spent some time in NZ, back to Melbourne, then rebadged and exported back to the US.

I'm an east coaster, I've lived all up and down the EC. Purgatory is FLA.

parts of so cal ended up reclaiming water...but I think it was for landscaping not human consumption.

Seriously though, it was bizarre how pissed off some people would get that they would drive around and look for offenders. Like if they caught you filling your pond they would make damn sure you were reported and fined.

Doesnt surprise me. There are so many people who you could call "rule nazis" - if someone breaks a rule it's wrong, they aren't interested in the reason they just want the person dobbed in and punished. People have been dobbing in their neighbours etc in Melb. We are good friends with our neighbours

FLA=Florida Think similar to Queensland Gold Coast in weather, and luckily it is wetter.

Actually I have not been to Europe and South America yet, but I have seen a bit of Asia.

If I can swing it Canada is on my to go to list. I'm more a cold weather person.

^^ Actually FLA is real old school... FL is what they tend to use now.

You'd love to see Fall, (autumn) very pretty.

Although I had Roses all year round in Melbourne. I usually trim them all back before winter, but left one 'miniture' uncut, and it was amazing all winter long.

Yeah we're almost in level 5. Two minute showers expect you to use a bucket to bath and a shower to rinse, fyi....

My car looks like inside of an asshole - and it's white!

I have a rainwater tank so I'm luuuuucky.

Uhhh... I've been drinking treated water my whole life. WITHOUT doing this, Australia WILL die. It's NOT bad for you... everything is treated back to regular water. Can't taste or even TEST a thing different. As a matter of fact, Australia is behind most of the WORLD on this technology.

^^^ yeah, in London for instance veryones drinking water that has already passed though at least 5 other people, lol.

There used to be some witchcraft groups in SE Qld who would have rainmaking meets and the like. It used to sound like fun, but I never went to one.

I guess it's just the thought of where it's been. I realise that it would be clean tho. I didn't know that it had been done elsewhere.
