If you have your own pole, you could check into online classes! No more concern about a school being close!!

Unfortunately, I don't have a pole.I was thinking of getting a dvd with instructions but, I figured i'll get it after a class. Use it to refresh myself. For the advanced.

ok well ive got a question...i can do a few tricks, but never do because i cant seem to get a good grip on the pole....any suggestions?

What kind of pole does your club have? If it's brass, you should be able to wipe it down with some rubbing alcohol on a towel, and then get a good grip. If a lot of the dancers wear any kind of lotion, this needs to be done first. And make sure your hands are good and dry, too.
If it's stainless steel, you might have more of a problem. Tricks can be learned on SS poles, but it tends to be a bit harder. Similarly, we were talking about chrome poles in another thread, and I remembered that there was one club where I used to play on their poles that had chrome poles--and you had to really wipe them down thoroughly! Or it was nearly impossible to get a grip.

we have a brass pole...and we have a thing of clorox wipes and paper towels on the stage...even if i use those, i find my hands tend to get a little sweaty...not from being nervous, but from gripping so tight i guess....

Get some of that powder the gymnasts use, then--but don't use too much of it, or it'll defeat the purpose--just enough to keep your hands dry.
