Because there ain't no tits on the radio

I believe so, it is in Detroit, and my mom used to take us as kids to the Detroit Institute of the Arts about once every couple months--so probably.
It's been years, though, I was a little kid then, lol.
The Oriental Institute has one of the lions, though.
What you really want to see is this, though--but you'll have to go to germany to do that:

Click on the picture, it's pretty big when it's blown up.
One of my pet projects that I have been too lazy to start is to start doing architectural perspective drawings of ancient monuments. The Ishtar Gate would make a beautiful rendering!

This post makes me miss real art! I was an art major in high school. I had to visit a Monet exhibit (in, I think 1998 or '97). About 15 of my friends & I took LSD & went to the Art Institute in Chicago. My most memorable part of the day happened in one of the smaller rooms (I have no idea what was in it - too long ago + H.S. experimentation) but 3 of my friends who were in the same room started freaking out (cause the acid was really good), made a scene, then ran out of the museum. I stood there with my (sober) friend, looking at a painting after this melee. An elderly couple at the painting next to us started talking: Her: "Oh, did you hear about Sylvia's boy?" "No, what's wrong with him?" "Well, they say he's on that L-S-D!!" I looked at my friend at this point & he had the same "Did they really just say that??" look on his face so we moved to another exhibit.
It was a very fun day but I couldn't read what I wrote while tripping, about Monet.
I went to the MET in NYC last September. I need to check out the new, revamped AMOA. http://www.amoa.org
I love museums and art! One of my favorite museums is the Staatgalerie in Stuttgart. My mom used to drop me off at museums as a kid all the time, I always feel good around learning, art, history, etc...

I bet it was the same exhibit I saw at the University of Utah Fine Arts Museum a few years ago.
Magnificinet is the word. I saw in person the Caryatid Fallen Under her Stone, and it made me cry. I put my hand up very close to it (but not touching by about 1/16 of an inch--I have respect) and a guard was by my side instantly.
I think Rodin is the greatest sculptor of all time, not Michelangelo.

Better than Michelangelo? Maybe. He sure knew how to express raw power and emotion. I found it profoundly moving, that's for sure. Of course we were madly in love back then, I think that helped, too, lol. She's long gone, but the memory of that museum trip will always be with me.Originally Posted by UtahMike
Well, then--sounds like your boyfriend is a keeper, lol!
Kaylinn, you should try going to a museum, it's a lot of fun--but you have to pick the right museum, and it really, really helps if you go with a date you really like. It can be very romantic, and/or very lust-inciting.
Avoid anything that sounds like it might be boring. If you go to an art museum, stay out of the old religious painting sections, lol. See if you can find the 'Erotic Art' Room.
I'm kidding, but not entirely (an Erotic Art Museum would be the best, ever). You might like Georgia O' Keefe, for instance, as I mentioned in another thread. Very, very erotic, in a subtle but powerful way.
Think about what kind of art you might like (or science, or natural history stuff like butterflies, whatever), and see what museums are near to you, or where you will be going on a trip soon.
The next best thing to a good museum is a good gallery. I know for a fact that Vegas has some very nice galleries, since I had a client who bought a lot of expensive art there, and a friend who sold it. If they have several galleries all on the same street it can be even better than some museums, sort of, because each one will be different--have different kinds of art, different lighting, different viewing area, etc, etc.

I take Makayla to the museums (Field Museum, Science and Industry and the Art) several times a year. We also hit the planetarium and the Shedd several times a year as well. I love exposing her to all of the different things out there.

I just saw Vivienne Westwood's 36 years of Fashion exhibition at the de Young here in SF.

Chicago Institute of Art, last July, when I was in town for an art show I was in. Seeing all those works by the masters made me feel very humble. I was in awe the whole time.

My last museum visit was a year ago...it was the Louvre in Paris though![]()

I went to the Royal Ontario Museum a couple years ago.
I just discovered Toronto has a shoe museum and I really want to go to that! (Shallow, I know!)

When I saw you had posted, knowing you were living in England, I assumed you would be mentioning the British Museum, with which I am quite familiar (even if I haven't been there in person), since it has a very large Egyptian collection, among other wonders. I was very close to becoming an Egyptologist, so I have always wanted to see the sizeable collection there.
But hey, The Louvre is just as good.
Lucky you!
Hey, what about a stripper shoe museum, lol?!Originally Posted by LatinaRose

Took my sons to Shedd Aquarium (the largest indoor aquarium in the world, with more than 8000 aquatic animals) all the time when they were younger. One warning to single parents of multiple little kids: The galleries at Shedd are DARK. Very easy to loose a wee one, particularly if it is crowded. Fortunately, my kids are resourceful little buggers, just like their old man, and always managed to find me again.

last summer i was in amsterdam, went to the van gogh museum and a few others, museum of sex, etc. before that it was last march for the King Tut exhibit in Ft Lauderdale (which is in philly now). i used to go a lot when i was in college as i was an art major. i love museums and galleries and try to hit up First Friday gallery shows each month.
and bella- museums on mushrooms can be pretty fun. i did the Electric Ladyland museum on mushrooms. in fact, i took a picture there, blurry because i was high haha. ill attach it, it's of my cousin sitting amongst some rocks in the museum.

Love it!

Well I had a lot of fun on mushrooms, including a few times eating them with my dad, lol. I'm not sure how proud I am, exactly, but I am the opposite of embarassed, and I wouldn't trade the memories.
It was definitely meant as a compliment, Chrissy...
