    Other Vegas Accomodations

The cheap vegas hotel thread got me thinking.

I am going to attend the DW course in May by myself, where should I stay? I'm not really going to party it up cause I'm coming by myself (unless someone here wants to?) so I would prefer somewhere close and decent. I don't want something cheap, but I don't want something expensive either. Mid-range, you could say. I've never been to vegas before though, so I have no idea. Do I need a rental car?

    Any ideas?

Do a search on expedia. There's many mid-range places, too many to mention, so it's best to check around on a few sites. Some of them you can search by proximity from where you need to be, so find out the address of wherever the course is being held and you'll be able to look for something close.

You don't NEED a rental car, you can take taxis, and for mid range, not cheap but not expensive...pretty much, if you stay away from the high end casinos, like Bellagio, MGM grand, Mirage, TI....most casinos on the strip you can get a room for 50-100 bucks a night. Like Flamingo, Sahara...not the greatest, but not bad either. I think even the Luxor and New York New York aren't to expensive. Or..You can avoid casinos and stay at a a Merriot or something..but I dont know much about thoes.

And heres a secret to booking rooms...Before we moved to Vegas, we came out here for a week, and got our room for $25 a night, at Sarhara. We checked expedia, got their rates, then went over to travelocity, and told them well, expedia was cheaper. Then travelocity went lower. So we went back to expedia and told them travelocity was cheaper, so expedia lowered their rates. Tehn we called the hotel directly, told them the rates we were quoted, and the hotel offered to go even cheaper. We took that info back to expedia and that's hwo we got a room so cheap. Its time consumign and a pain in the ass, but if you want cheap rooms or flights, thats the way to go. It helps that my bf is a great bargainer.

Yeah...still at my part-time job, though. I was going to start dancing in 2-3 weeks, but tack on the move and all that stuff...

I know where the cash needs to go this time around. Too bad, though, because we could fly out of Austin.

^^^ yeah ive priced plane tix out of here from about $275, and hotel room about $100. I was thinking fly out Saturday, stay that night, go to the course on Sunday and fly out that night, because I have a final exam on Tuesday morning!
So we're looking at probably about $1000 for the trip if I include fun/shopping/drinking etc, nothing two or three nights at the club can't handle

There's a little hotel across from MGM on Tropicana that I LOVE. I can't remember the name but I'll try to drive past it tonight to get the name. It's right behind the Coco's restaurant. I've stayed there a bunch of times. A suite is like $50 - has a separate bedroom, big bathroom, living room with couch, mini fridge & microwave. If you don't want to wait for a cab you could just walk across the street & get one at MGM. (Also, most times I've stayed there I didn't make a reservation, just showed up from the airport.) I booked this place for a week once then had 1 day at the Luxor (to treat myself for my hard work); I hated the Luxor - the room was so much smaller than this place that cost half as much.

Yeah..I stayed one night at the Luxor when I went because my room at the Venetian wasnt available until my second night. For what they charge..over $100 a night when i was there...it was tiny and cheap looking. The Venetian was $350 for a SUITE...it was HUGE and gorgeous and worth every penny!
