    Default murder dreams- HELP!

anyone know why id be having tonnes and tonnes of murder dreams?

a close friends was murdered some months back, and the dreams didnt start till 3 weeks ago, when i had surgery. i thoguht they were just form the sleeping pills and brushed it off. but i havent had a sleeping pill or pain killer or anything in the past week. but the dreams keep coming.

after googling it, alot of sites mentioned that long term murder dreams can be a sign of depression. im 99% sure im not. god im the happiest ive been in ages!

i am never the one doing the killing, i just witness it, and most of the time, im really blaze about it all, like in my dream i seen a chick getting sliced open from throat to pussy by a cult, and it didnt upset me- it freaked me out a little, but it didnt affect me as much as it would had i seen it in real life on tv, or had i seen it in real life....omfg....

there doesnt seem to be a pattern, some times it a chick, sometimes a guy. always strangers, and sometimes i see the whole thing, other times i just know whats happened, but havent witnessed it.

    weird.

im just starting to worry a little, its not at all like me to have dreams about this kinda thing.

one of the dreams so far came true.... i dreamt a girl was stabbed at a shopping mall, the next night on the news...a girl was stabbed- but survived at the local mall.

    any ideas?

In my book 10,000 Dreams by hindman Miller it says that ' to see murder commited in your dreams, fortells much sorrow arising from the misdeeds of others' Sorry to hear about your friend =0(

hmm maybe im subconsiously thinking of his death then? still, whats weird is they way i react in every dream, like nothing had happened.

Maybe you react in the dream this way because you wish what had happened in real life hadn't happened, therefore, you wouldn't have to react at all.
Having a friend be murdered is a truly horrific experience that most surely affects your sub-conscious.
Maybe your brain is trying to desensitize you so you won't feel as much pain?
Or maybe you still can't wrap your conscious and unconscious mind around what happened, and your brain is replaying it for you, but from a safe emotional (i.e. nonreactive, nonchalant) distance.

maybe... but its been months since it happened. its just so out of character for me to dream stuff like this.

maybe im over analyzing it too?

Probably nothing to worry about. From the little bit I have read about dream analysis my impression is that most extreme dreams represent things which may seem like sot such a big deal really.

Heres a couple of definitions from one of the online dream interpretation sites. (-:

If you have any more that come true though that will be interesting. Sometimes people do that for a little while and then it just stops happening altogether. Other people might be able to develop the skill.

most times when deaths like that happen to people close to us, we suppress our feelings about it, so im not surprised that things are just now coming up. you said this all started when you had surgery.. well, surgery is scary in and of itself, so that opens up deeper wounds. make sense?

    good link aussie!

    Love it!

a lot of times, dreams can be a "release" of inner emotions, and it comes through in metaphors. for example, if you watch your friends live thier lives and theire getting "murdered" in their situation or you're watching them either hurt themselves or others hurt them, it can help you deal with it.

in my case, i know that its a release of not necessarily inner DESIRES per se, but rather of supressed anxiety and anger. a lot of times i dream that i witness a murder and it may be a complete stranger with characteristics that resemble someone i know, or some that i actually know. (i have a LOT of freaky dreams, dreams that most people would classify as nightmares, i've never once had a "normal" or happy dream, ever)

i guess, what i'm trying to say is that you really have to evaluate the victim in your dream, how you feel about them, the perpetrator, how you feel about them, the surrounding events, etc before you can really figure out what the dream "means"

dream dictionaries are more often than not full of crap as each persons symbolism is different (for example freud said that fish was a symbol for a penis, whereas to me, a fish is just a fish. if i'm gonna dream about a penis, it's going to be a penis. i don't need any damn sybolism on that one! haha!) what may represent one thing to you, may be interpreted entirely different by the writer of the dream dictionary.
also, your stress level comes into play in this as well. the higher stress that you experience, it could alter your level of "normality" in your dreams.

which is another thing to take into account, if you normallyhave particularly weird dreams, then how is this one any different? other than the murder theme (which for me, would be normal, but your normal is different than mine) basically, you'd have to establish some sort of base line to figure out how whacked out from normal these dreams are for you.

also is there any other underlying themes to these dreams? anything that makes them similar to each other, other than the murdering theme, of course. is there a predominant color? are they even in color? is it the same person each time? what's the thread that links alll of these?

    sorry about the long post.

I would vote for it being your mind's way of coming to grips with the murder.

When I was a child, I was somewhat traumatized by seeing on TV a string of movies dealing with disfigured women (the mob throwing acid in women's faces in The Untouchables TV series, the masked radiation-disfigured women in The Planet of Beautiful Women, the women who disfigured themselves in The Hypnotic Eye, that sort of thing).

For a long time afterwards, whenever I imagined a beautiful face, the image in my mind would be all scarred up. It was like my subconscious wasn't done dealing with the issue, and had to get past it before I could imagine unscathed beautiful faces.

Luckily, I got over it, but if I remember correctly, it was a couple of years.

I wonder if something like that is going on with your dreams.

One hint I might propose. This probably sounds psycho, but when I was a baby, my dad's hi-fi (this was before stereo) was malfunctioning one day, and all kinds of weird sounds came out of the loudspeaker, and scared the bejesus out of me. For years afterwards, almost until my teens, I would have nightmares about loudspeaker cabinets chasing me around the room, saying "bah hah!". This sounds pretty ridiculous, but it was terrifying while I was asleep. Eventually, I started saying to myself, before I went to sleep each night, "I will not dream about bad loudspeakers tonight." Little by little, the dreams went away. Maybe something like that would help with your dreams.

In any case, I hope they go away.

    Be well...

    Lynn
