    Default Short Kitten Vent

I'm sure some of you will remember my excitement at getting a new kitten last week.

Here's the start of my short rant. While on the trip to pick up the kitten, I was called and told that the kitten "wasn't done nursing" and not ready to leave the mom. Unexpected and frustrating, but cool, need a healthy kitten.

Now, trying to arrange a time to pick up the kitten with the guy I know. Have had all the necessary materials and preparations made for the kitten already, purchased, in house and ready to go.

Now the girl he's with is calling "I want to keep the kitten.", after telling me that as soon as she was ready, we could have her. It takes me an hour drive each way just to try to work this stuff out.

Its really frustrating that someone that already has 6 grown cats and two other kittens that has already "promised" someone a kitten would change her mind like this, especially after we were prepared and invested money and resources and relying on the good faith of a friend.

Of course the guy is trying to get her to let them go, as he thinks they have too many cats already. Just pissed off and annoyed that after all of this now this all comes into play.

You ask for a house and we go out of our way to accommodate a new kitten, then to get pissed on, not making me very happy.

I'll see how this one turns out...

Not to downplay the significance of this particular kitten, which has an intrinsic value as its own being, etc. (really... animals are people too, I'm not being sarcastic)... BUT, if the situation surrounding this particular kitten is becoming a huge ordeal, AND you're not especially attached to this individual animal, why not rescue a shelter cat? Surely there are tons in your area. I'm sure you've tossed around this idea, so I don't imagine I'm providing a very novel solution, but think about it anyway. You won't be embroiled in a weird custody battle, and you probably won't have to deal with nursing issues, as kittens-for-adoption have already been weaned. AND you will help an unwanted animal become a wanted animal and possibly save its life.

^^^As strange as it may sound, some places have a "kitten season". This blew my mind when I was living in Seattle and rescued my two cats. Here, you have them all year yound, but up there you can only get them during the warmer months.

Not sure what the weather is like in Ohio though. While I would much rather rescue a kitty from a shelter than anything else, these people promised him the cat and now are neneging on their agreement.

I'd be pissed too. Especially if I had bought all of the stuff already and had to drive an hour each way to get there. Sounds like your friend has a potential 'crazy cat lady' on his hands, lol!

I'd be pissed..but it really sounds like this person should get their pets spayed/neutered. They obviously cant handle it. Shes not only a crazy cat lady...but she may very well be developing into a hoarder...which can be an actual psychological condition(ever see where animal control goes into a home that is filthy with hundreds of cats? This is how is starts)

You're already set up..so go rescue a life that desperatly needs it!!

I agree that the person needs to get the cat neutered; unless she is fostering. I realize it's frustrating, but ultimately - you never had this kitten. You didn't really get attached to it. At this point, for you, one kitten is pretty much the same as another. To her, this particular kitten is special. I used to foster, so I've had many, many, many cats and kitten - over 100 (not at a time). Trust me - sometimes they can be hard to let go. She's not running a pet store; you don't just scan them through and ring them out. If you were interested in being nice and friendly you might (if she is not fostering) suggest that she should spay/neuter her cats AND that most municipalities prohibit keeping more than 4 "large animals" (dogs or cats) in one household; almost all will prohibit more than 6.

Just more frustrating for me. I got my heart set on this particular kitten, so obviously I'd like to get that kitten. Especially since her boyfriend whose house she lives in wants to get rid of them as he notices they have too many cats.

I have a feeling we'll figure something out, as thats what I do. Still had to get some frustration out in the form of a vent.

I did promise kitten pics, and if we get one (no matter which one) I will deliver.

OHh..when I got my kittens, they tried to pull this. I had to foster them for a few weeks first, to make sure we were good parents. Well, when They got spayed, they had to stay overnight at her house, cause she didnt think we could take care of the cats after surgery( she was fuckin nuts anyway)
The next day I call to get my kittnes, and she says they decided to keep them.

I flipped out, started crying, and put my bf on the phone, and he basicially said pack the cats, we are on our way to get them now.
We showed up at her house, and afetr her seeing me in tears, and my bf explaining that they had lived with us for a month already, we loved them, they had food, toys, a kitty condo, and we did nto spend huindred of dollars to have them taken off us for no reason... She gave them back. I also made her sign the paperwork that night stating I was no longer a foster parent, but the owner of the cats, that way she couldnt pull that shit ever again.

So anyway...Im so sorry....I hope it does work out for you. tell them its fucked up! they cant promise something then change their minds, thats not nice.

Speaking of kittens......DOES ANYONE ELSE WANT ONE????

The stray who adopted me got herself knocked up before I could get her to the vet, and now I've got six two-week-old kittens in the back of my closet, nursing amongst the old stripper shoes.

Well I'd certainly take one, if we didn't live so damn far apart.

The girl has turned out to be the crazy cat lady, so I'm going elsewhere to save myself on stress.

Oh, my! This happened to me 9 years ago. Rescued a beautiful kitten, took her to have her spayed...only to find out that she was going to be a mommy. A few weeks later, she had 3 lively, rambunctious, beautiful little kittens. I still have 2 of them. But, 6...wow. Hope you find good homes for them!

DJ...definitely hit your local shelter. If you are going to have only 1 cat, you may want to consider getting a cat that is FIV positive. Those cats rarely get adopted...and live out their days in cages...and would probably love to have someone give them love and all.

We've already looked into all the shelters, and are visiting sometime soon after Easter.

They have to get along with our current cat and dog. Though I don't think it'll be too much of a problem.

Though my friend (brother of this girl's guy) have joked about going catnapping soon
