    Default Quitting smoking....

Somebody please shoot me!! I am on day 4 with no cigarettes cold turkey. My baby wont stop crying for no reason my oldest is completly pestering the hell out of me and I dont know why. My husband is quitting too so right now we hate eachother. I had to work last night and I did okay. I had to make a few people leave the bar when it got to be too much but I did okay. Its at home that I dont think I can handle.

When I start to get stressed at home I take a little mommy vacation on the back porch gulp down a cup of coffee and have a cigarette. I dont have that now. I feel so overwhelmed. And I know that I have to find a replacment for that little mini vacation. Im getting a membership at a gym so that I can get start doing that before I loose my motivation.

Does anybody know of any natural ways to curb the cravings or the stress?

I'm quitting at the moment, though not really cold turkey. I've been using Nicorette products (gum and inhaler, plus the odd patch) and I also have two acupuncture clips in my left ear. I've had a few lapses, but I'm not spending money on cigarettes at all now, and smoking much much less when I do give in and smoke. Quitting is very hard. I recommend nicotine replacement therapy if you're going absolutely insane. I've heard hypnotherapy also works, though I can't vouch for that personally. However, if you don't want to try nicotine replacement products, you may want to give acupuncture a whirl.

When I quit, cold turkey was the method that finally worked. I had tried the patch, gum, inhaler, etc, which just prolonged it for me. I had my doc prescribe some xanax for me, and it helped with the stress and anxiety part. However, that was just for me...if you're not accustomed to pills like that, it might not be a good idea since they're addictive for some people. Plus, with kids you don't want to be tired and knocked on your ass, another side effect for many. I notice you asked for natural methods...valerian root is an herb that relaxes. If you're having problems sleeping and want to go natural, melatonin and benadryl with the valerian can help.

For the cravings, sunflower seeds help....if you extract the seeds with your teeth it takes a long time to eat them, so your mouth is occupied for awhile. You're on day 4, so good job...you're getting up there Don't smoke and ruin it...you'll start feeling better in a couple of days. I don't think there's anything specific that takes away the cravings.

To help relieve stress, go for a walk (kids in strollers), or ask your hubby to watch them while you get some exercise. Break your activities into short tasks and alternate them if you have to...this makes time go by faster. Join an online smoking cessation forum and post, especially when you're feeling weak or emotional...let the emotions out, channel them into something you like. Write, draw, do crafts, anything that lets bad energy out. Then, if you need to relax, read, watch a movie, play with the kids, meditate, take a got bath, give hubby a massage and then have him give you one

Put on a sexy dress and look at yourself in the mirror, think about how hot you look and how successful you are because you rock...after all, you're quitting smoking and you're going to be healthy and hot.

Also, take it hour by hour, minute by minute....don't think of the long future without a cigarette, as that can be daunting. Resolve not to smoke for the hour...then move up the day. Construct a ticker and let it show you how long you've been smoke free. Good luck....four days is awesome....you can do it
