    Default Bad addiction????

Okay, so I was a dedicated Dr.Pepper addict....like I drank unreasonable amounts of it.

So since I'd been tryin to watch what I eat and whatnot, I'd been drinking tons more water, and black coffee to get my caffeine. But I just love the feeing of having a cold fizzy soda with a meal....

So I've recently replaced my Dr.Pepper addiction with Diet Cream Soda. I can't stop drinking it. I'm stilll drinking tons of water....but I canttttt stop drinking these.

I know it'd be better to not drink soda at all but....is this a bad thing to be obsessed with? I know diets have alotta sodium...but these only have 70 grams or what not.

    Do I hafta stop?

I wouldn't sweat it, personally. I have a cousin who HAD to stop all soda due to her getting horrifying headaches, but she drank it in bulk. But you? Unless you're the same way, why worry? Drink!

I would say yes. if you care about your health 10-15 years from now stop. Artificial sweeterners IMO are worse for you than the sugar - and the amount and type of sugar in those drinks isnt good.
Its hard to stop food habits at first, but once you stick to not having something you soon get used to it and sometimes when you go back to trying something you liked before you dont.
Sounds boring i know, but try sparkling mineral water. You can add a little to juices and its refreshing without fucking with your body (-:

I agree with aussiepunkshocker, but on top of that drinking too many carbonated beverages can deplete calcium reserves, so as much as it sucks you should try to limit any carbonated beverages including waters.
Maybe just limit yourself 2 a week or something like that?
(I love Diet cream soda too! I just try to get it only once in a while)

I met a customer at work who was 28 and had just been diagnosed with diabeties due to drinking large amounts of fizzy drinks, so be careful.

I've heard that carbonated drinks are bad for your bones as well. Plus all those bubbles can make you bloat something awful.

Yeah, they are pretty bad. I guess it depends. If you are the type of person that gets triggered to have loads by just having one, you may have to go cold turkey off it.

Otherwise you could taper your consumption off and cut them down little by little until they are just an occasional treat. I heard of the diabetes-soda connection before too, but that was with sugary sodas.

If the rest of your diet is decent, I don't think the occasional diet soda is so bad at all. There are worse things.

Check the ingredients for phosphoric acid...most sodas have it- it will leach the calcium right out of your bones.

I also agree with aussie...those artificial sweetners are just not good for you.

the occasional soda is fine...but it sounds like you're having several a day? Can you mix carbonated water with (100&#37 juice? That's pretty tasty, and not as bad for you.

not to mention what all the stuff in sodas can do to your liver. I know one guy (friend of the family) who drank mt. dew by the case daily, and his liver has turned yellow and is about to give up on him. hes 39 and had been drinking it since he was in his late 20's. hospitalized due to it.

be careful with drinking too much soda pop. i dont think a can or two a day will screw you up, but still...watch it.

One of my best friends (not an urban legend) developed the symptoms of MS. After a battery of tests cleared her from that it was determined that her Diet Coke habit was the culprit. Her doctor told her that the symptoms of aspartame poisoning are very similar to MS--neurological types of issues. Very, very scary.

ok now in reference to carbonation, surely you guys mean sugary soft drinks, not my beloved perrier!

and here's my .02 about mad amounts of daily soda consumption...my mom has been addicted to coca cola for years (since a child) She used to drink cokes all day everyday and I honestly believe that contributed to her having a full hip replacement at 54!!! That's a procedure for 80 year old women...not someone in their 50's. So yeah I would be kinda obsessed about it if you're drinking "unreasonable amounts of it."

ya, you should quit. It's awful for you, and has symptoms you can see once you quit.

but as a fellow smoker, I know people don't always do what's best for them.

sssh, pooka, sssh. there, there. it's going to be ok. i used to be fiercely addicted to full strength coke for years. eventually had to break the habit.

here's a thought... (brace yourself)... fizzy water. i have been bored with the flat, tap kind so i embarked on a fizzy water journey. soda water, sparkling mineral water, whatever. it has all the intrigue of bubbles, and that delightful gastric side-effect that my husband loves *burrrrrrp* but none of the nasties.

it's boring after a sugary fizz at first, but then you just get addicted to the bubbles (and your bones will be fine).

I agree with most everyone who has responded... Really, soda is bad for you, no two ways about it. But...

if you like the fizziness of the soda you might want to invest in a carbonizer, you can carbonize water yourself and add it to your fav fruit juice( 100% juice I hope) - this means you are one only getting fructose (which is not as bad for you as fructose or any of the other stuff in soda) and you can also control how much fizz you get. If you add it to OJ for example it will be kinda like Orangina. play with it, mix juices, add a little bit of a flavor extract... you can always buy soda water and add a little bit to juice and not get the carbonizer thing. When I was a barista we carbonized our own water for our italian and french sodas... they were awesome, and never overly fizzy.

I used to be addicted to Pepsi in high school!! LOL
For real, I would drink almost 2 liters a day and get headaches if I didn't.

So I cut myself off completely and now I can't have very much caffeine at all without feeling my heart want to rip out of my chest. I don't even like soda anymore. If I can change my diet habits, anyone can!
There are so many things wrong with carbonated sodas...even the diet ones. Juice, water and some iced teas are healthier. You will feel better in the long run if you cut down now.

I was a Diet Coke addict until recently. I started drinking Fiji Water and now I am addicted to that! lol
I would say maybe cut the amount of soda in 1/2 to start to kind of wean yourself off of it. Maybe in a few weeks cut that amount in 1/2 again, and then maybe you won't even want it as much.

OMG! My step mother had the same thing a couple of years ago from diet pepsi!

yea...just stop buying it. i stopped drinking cokes and stuff (wow, there's my "southern" comin out for ya! lol), years ago....now, i can't stand pepsi, coke etc...it's WAY too sugary. I can barely handle sprite/7up. every now and then (like once every 2-3 months), i'll get a dr pepper, but can only drink one.

I used to have a can of Fresca a day---I developed migraine headaches and heart palpitations. When I stopped the soda, they went away. Those artificial sweeteners are toxic chemicals over the long run. Better to drop the soda all together, or stick to fizzy fruitjuice sweetened sodas. I pick mine up at the healthfood store--they come in great flavors like mango, mandarin, and raspberry.
