Default Suggestions for Music for a Lez Set

    Hi, all.

I am in the process of reworking my dance sets. One of them is a duo I do with another girl. We currently dance to Feeling Love (Paula Cole) and LapDance (NERD) [I know , stupid mix, but w/e].

I like for my dance sets to tell a "story" basically, and what we've worked out for the new routine so far is Lips of an Angel (Hinder), followed by Stop (Jamelia). We need a third piece to complete the set.

The story line basically goes: forbidden attraction (Lips), fighting the attraction (Stop), ultimately consummating the attraction (this is what we need the song to represent).

We'll start out on poles on opposite ends of the stage for the first song, (our main stage has poles that rise up out of the floor and you can have as many as 4 working at once). As we segue into the second song, we move toward sharing a pole that has risen up between us, and the third song is where the "consummation" takes place. lol

Right now, the best thing we can come up with is Justify My Love by Madonna, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has any ideas or suggestions before we committed to that and began building the routine.

    Any ideas?

Les Portes du Souvenir, by Princesses Nubiennes, very sexy, but it's a bit slow and the lyrics are in French, but that's what it's about.

Switch, by Fem 2 Fem, this one has a dance beat, and the lyrics are quite understandable:

"I finally tried it, it feels good..."

There's an ancient thread about music like this, somewhere back in the dusty vaults of Music Mix, I will go look for it and return in a while...

Wow, I almost didn't get out of there, lol--this thread is so old it's been messed up somehow in the database--but you should still be able to get the names, etc.

I like both of those songs (esp. the 2nd one), but neither of them gives me the feel that I want for this set.

    Justify my Love by Madonna!
    Breathe on Me: Britney Spears
Justify is one I'm seriously considering, and there's an Erotic Remix of Breathe that might work as well. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVPHB4Gr5FA)

I actually saw that thread (unlike some n00b's, I did do a search first! lol). I debated about resurrecting it, but thought I 'd get more/better input by starting a recent thread.

I *love* Les Portes du Souvenir, (and I speak French, so I can understand the song), but I'm not sure how well that would go over in a club (high end, primarily businessmen/women as customers). In my mind, the words of the song help support the story line, and I don't want to have to translate the song for everyone! haha Has anyone used this in a club, and if so, has it gotten a good reaction?

I have yet to find a good quality clip of Switch. I'll take a look at it.

I'll take a look at those. I've heard of SRC, but I don't recall off the top of my head what their music is like.

I have used it frequently in my last club, mostly for a strikingly beautiful dancer who happens to be bisexual. No one in the audience got the lyrics, I don't think, but they didn't seem to care, lol--the girl can move.

The version of Justify My Love you want is the 'Orbit 12" mix', it's sexed up a bit more, and starts with her saying "Come on, baby...you can fuck with me."

If you have trouble finding it, I'll put it up on Soulseek.

SRC is hot, one of the very best new bands in the last five years. Powerful stuff, no froofroo shit here.

^^The SRC album came out in early 2000. The girl, Tobey, quit not too long after. The guy is supposedly looking for a new female singer to cut a new cd. I'll agree though, good album. "Angry Garbage" was my first thought when it came out. Honestly though, when a new band's best most playable songs are covers, that bothers me.

If you like SRC, and things a bit more stompy, check out a band called Angelspit. Not really appropriate for your set...but I get the feeling you have that hammered out anyway. Isn't the Orbit mix of Justify My Love craaaaazy long?

It is over 7 minutes long, so it'll have to be modified/edited to work for the routine, but we have decided it is what we're going to use. Thanks, Djoser, for the suggestion.

Thanks to the rest of you as well. I picked up a couple of new songs for my iPod. ;-)

It's quite simple--you just fade it out, into the next song, when it reaches the required time limit for your club/club situation.

I like to start it at the beginning rather than trying to cue it in, since that opening line is fucking hot. I actually make sure I talk at the end of the song before that (whatever it is), shut up, and crank the volume so the opening line can be heard clearly.

I just downloaded this...very sexy!! Also makes me think of their other song "Say Yes" which would also work in this instance.

    LOL!

Well I wondered why the fuck it mattered if the song was long, when you can simply fade it out, and felt sure you must know that, but why else would you post that the song was 'craaazy long'? Who cares, when you can just do what we do with all such long but good songs, cue the hell out of them or fade way early after 3 minutes.

Maybe you were just commenting on the song's length to be sure we were talking about the same one, without implying there could be any sort of problem with this, which of course there isn't.

But I remember when I was posting that, surely you had to know about fading long songs after 17 years, lol!! I went ahead and posted it for the benefit of any newbie DJs or dancers out there who might not be familiar with the mysterious, arcane lore of the booth.

I used to play that song to annoy my boss when we were slow! lol It makes a great set with Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw.

I'd suggest for your third song, if you can get away with something super slow, Don't Look Back by Telepopmusik. Its all about giving in to love, and its super steamy! I'd use it for my next double show, but I'm afraid I might get out of hand with that playing. lol
