Default The Toronto Maple Leafs Bounce

In a spectacular 3-2 shootout win, the NY Islanders defeated the NJ Devils this afternoon. With that victory, the Islanders shattered Toronto's playoff hopes.

DylanAngel, why weren't your NJ Devils on top of their game?!?! They had a vested interest in eliminating NY without having to play a single playoff game. NJ despise NY. They should have done something with that. Why they didn't take advantage of that eludes me... It was a spectacular game though, I must admit.

Is there a bright side to this?... Yes there is. You are DAMN RIGHT THERE IS!

With the Leafs gone, this clears the way for our true heros... The Toronto Raptors!

Over the last 3 months, they have played spectacular basketball. There is nothing that can be said that would take anything away from what they've done. Period!

For the last month, they have the highest winning percentage in the eastern conference, even above Detroit, who are no shabby team by any means!

We started the season 2-8. Everyone, including the Toronto folks, wrote us off as done. Boy oh boy are they harsh! And, oh man, were they ever wrong!

On Friday night, with our win over Philadelphia and NJ's loss to the Bulls, we officially became the Atlantic Division Champions!! No one in their right minds would have ever even considered this a remote possibility. But we did it nonetheless..

And... we keep on winning! We just demolished the Bulls 103-89, after almost 15 straight loses! There isn't anything these kids can't do! I'm flying on adrenaline right now, as I have every right to be doing!

The playoffs are coming. God help anyone who underestimates our Toronto Raptors. Go Raptors go!!

Umm, I have no idea why you are calling me out.

I AM AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN A NY RANGERS FAN.

I only live in NJ. I was born and raised in Chelsea, NYC. Went to High School 3 blocks from the Garden.

    Frankly, I'm insulted.

    Pfft!

I didn't mean to call you out. That team played mediocre hockey this afternoon. I chose you because you are the only one I knew that lived there. So get over it.

My team got bounced, not yours. You're fine, at least for now...

As said in my post,... Go Raptors go!!

No I will NOT get over it. If you knew your hockey, you'd know that Ranger fans f'ing HATE the Devils; myself included.

You might as well have called me a nasty name, because I consider you calling me a Devil's fan the same thing.

You picked the wrong girl to make an example out of...I take my hockey very seriously. Why is it that you can be so gung ho about your team and I can't about mine? This could turn ugly so I'm going to leave it alone.

With that said; I'm going to enjoy the playoffs.

Actually, I would think the Devils would prefer to have the Islanders make the playoffs instead of the Leafs. If NYI can upset Buffalo in the first round, that would set up a match up between NYI & NJ. You can be sure they like the idea of traveling to NY instead of Ontario. That said, Go Canucks Go!

WooHOO. My family's Easter dinner was held off until the Islanders won that shoot-out, at which point my dad instantly phoned my Opa so the rest of us (all these aunts, uncles, and cousins) could taunt him over the speaker phone (he's a loser Leafs fan).

What's that, the SECOND year they didn't make the play-offs? Boohoo Toronto, boohoo.

Being Canadian I wish there was more money up here for players and that the League was not so geared to keeping US fans. The NHL has geared it's promo, marketing and research to target American based audiences and in the process the Canadian based teams have been given the "short-end-of-the-stick" as it were.

The NHL knows hockey is a done deal in Canada and that Canadians as a general rule have pucks not blood cells in their veins. This said the League leaves Canadian teams to "fend for themselves".

When Calgary made it to the finals in 2004 Tampa Bay (city) didn't have a clue they had the Stanley Cup Playoffs in their city they were so focused on the Bucks that hockey didn't even register let alone the Stanley Cup. (I saw this on every news report from the sports channels and local media in Calgary and TB.)

Here in Canada hockey is the National Religion with mass every Saturday night on Hockey Night in Canada on the CBC. Don Cherry and Ron McClain are the officiating priests of the puck and stick and everyone knows the anthems of the game...both of the US and Canada but also the HNIC theme music.

Olympic and World hockey command attention and respect and when Canada won the Gold in Salt Lake you would have thought both VE and VJ day happened all over again up here!!! Kissing and hugging in the streets, flags in full color, cars stopped dead when the final score announced...even my work brought in TV's for the big games...the only other time TV's were allowed in my work was for 9/11...so I think that proves the significance of the sport in Canada!!!

I personally, am a die hard Flames fan...Loved the RED MILE...and now prepare for another hopefully rowdy and rewarding playoff season! The last playoff run in 2004 I was JUST pregnant ...got up the pole just before the Playoffs began...LMAO...in our house it is me saying "Not tonight honey I'm watching the game!!"

Again this year I am preggers just before Playoffs and ready to cheer as I did in '04. Hopefully the "C" of RED will do as well and better this year...but in this new League it is truly any team's Cup this year!

I wish TO's LEAFS made it in this year but maybe it is time to tell Fergason to take a hike and bring in a GM with more guts than family connections...They ousted the Coach so maybe now it is time to clean out the GM's office????

    GO SHARKS GO!

Got my playoff tickets in hand, my Sharks flag on the passenger car window, and teal hair dye ready when we make it to the Cup finals.

Bummer about the Leafs... I do respect Sundin. Plus, I can't stand the Isles all that much. (Pulling for Buffalo in the East, since one of my best friends is a Buffalo native).

Sorry... I didn't mean to insult you by incorrectly assuming you were a Devils fan. I wasn't aware that you were an NYC transplant. I guess I get a much-deserved shelling for that one!! Again, sorry about that.

And therein lies the problem. The Leafs have sold every ticket they've had available for over the last 20 years! The ones they have command ridiculous prices too (over $500 in a lot of cases)! They have no financial incentive to improve.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment have some of the deepest pockets in professional sports. They own the Leafs, the Toronto Raptors and the newly debuted Toronto FC. There excess of revenue is why they don't work harder to improve their hockey squad. At least that's the majority opinion on it.

Just over a year back, a Star reader made an astute comment. He said "Hey, does this Brian Collangelo guy know anything about Hockey??" Priceless! I must have rolled around on the floor for 10 min. after hearing that one.

FYI: BC is the Toronto Raptor's GM, who's about to win his second NBA Executive of the Year award for this season's showing.

First off NCL... your a fucking idiot. No one here likes you, EVERYONE knows your a loser stalker. So why do you keep trying? Yes im calling you out on your PL ways. You try and get girls to take you home with them, you abuse your power at Rogers to get girls personal information by tracking their phone numbers. You threaten to show up at their homes, you try and push your way into their personal lives and your an alcoholic. The fact you havnt figured out the only reason the BR lets you keep going back is because you spend your pay cheque there? Every single girl makes fun of you, as does the bar staff and management. You get thrown out every damn time you go there because your drunk PL ass can never walk out of the club on your own.

If you think im going to forget about you abusing your power at Rogers to trace my phone number(a phone number I never even gave you, you bribed another girl to give it to you) and find out where I live ... you ae sadly mistaken. Your lucky I never took legal action against you, because I was damn close to doing so.

    Back to the topic...

    Im cheering for the Canucks

I believe that the New Jersey Devils were formerly the Colorado Rockies. Once the team moved, Colorado was out of a major league hockey team until.....

... Canada helps! The Quebec Nordiques move to Colorado, become the Colorado Avalanche, and two Stanley Cups then came out of it.

And in a nice twist of fate, the Avalanche beat the Devils for the Cup in 2001.

Let's not talk about this year. A bunch of the Avalanche's power base dissolved when salary caps struck.

Bah, screw you all. Kansas City can't even steal a hockey team by building a new arena for them. Not yet anyway.

I too decry the southward bound trend the NHL has been taking over the last 15 years, even within the US. The most dastardly was when the Minnesota Northstars moved to Dallas and had to drop the "north" from its name. MSP eventually got a new team, but I'm not keen on the new nickname.

As far as I'm concerned, no city, no matter how large or affluent, should have a major league hockey team if folks there aren't acclimated to snow.
