    Default sleeping pills

i dont want anything that will make me feel drowsy in the morning, or that i might not wake up for hours and hours if i take. i've had this problem with anything like nyquil, and an over the counter sleep aid i took once.

ive tried melatonin, but i feel like it made me sleep really badly. i took my brother's once, a different brand, and they worked, but i can't find them near me.

i have a horrible time falling asleep and staying asleep. soo, what do you guys take/recommend?

idk .. any over-the-counter i've taken makes me drowsy when i wake up, even if i've had plenty of sleep. this includes both tylenol/advil pm .. and an otc sleep aid (generic wal-mart brand) .... i've heard that ambien and lunesta do not cause this drowsy 'hangover' (if you will), but i don't have experience with either. although, i am hoping to try .. sometimes, even when i'm exhausted, i just can't turn my brain off!! good luck britt!!

the problem with ambien is that i was told in a diff. thread that it makes you hallucinate. if you start taking anything though, lemme know how it goes!

Ambien worked for me as wel as Lunesta. Ambien CR is alittle better than normal Ambien concerning visions.

    Ambien CR is great.
I have been an insomniac for over 25 years and this is the first thing that really works.

Ambien, Rozerem, and Lunesta didn't make me sleepy at all! I'm really tolerant to things though. I've taken a tons of different sleeping pills through the years, but the only thing that works for me is Seroquel (in high doses). I don't recommend it though, it's really strong shit. If I don't take it, I don't sleep, no matter how long I have been up.

I use Melatonin and it knocks me right out even though I have a high tolerance.

That happens to me sometimes. When it does I just get up, take another, drink a glass of water, and fall back asleep.

Oh boy, I wouldn't recommend that unless a dr. specifically thinks she should take it. That shit it amazingly strong and fast! Too much in my case...

Yeah, it's the last thing I would recommend for anybody to take. It kicks the shit out of all the regular sleeping pills out there (not in a good way).

Hmm...if you don't want to go the script sleep aid route, you can try a combo of melatonin, valerian root (you can find it at almost any drug or health store in the vitamin/herb section), and benadryl. I'm an insomniac too, so when I don't have any sleeping pills, I take 3mg melatonin, 2 valerian root tabs, and two or three benadryl. I get at least six hours with that cocktail.

When I have sleeping pills, I take a lunesta (3mg) and sometimes an ativan (1mg). Sleeping pills can make you hallucinate, and it can be freaky at first, but after awhile I got used to them, and they often stop. I say, "hello translucent dancing eggplant, how are you tonight? don't touch me, I'm trying to sleep...go play with the horsey!" i know you're worried about the ghost and such, so hallucinating might make that fear worse. Anyhow, there are lots of OTC and script options...sometimes a certain combo will work for you. But before you mix stuff, ask a pharmacist or doctor to make sure there won't be any interactions. You can also try meditating and calming down, reading, etc. for a little bit before sleep....google "sleep hygiene," to read more about that.

I take 1/2 of a Tylenol PM. The recommended dosage is 2, which made me a zombie the next day. I took 1 for a while and that worked, but still a little groggy. Breaking the tablet in 1/2 is just enough to help me get to sleep when I need it, and I don't feel out of it the next day.

well, last night i slept for a few hours straight, then started waking up. i woke up every hour, at least, sometimes every half hour. i guess the melatonin just doesnt do it for me.

i'm afraid to try tylenol pm or anything like that because of the groggy next day feeling, and sometimes when i take those i dont wake up to my alarm clock.

i used to sleep all the way through the night. and i could sleep for 12 hours at a time! this sucks

Beware of the prescription meds(Ambien, Lunesta, Restoril etc). The FDA(federal drug administration) just released a warning of "automatic behaviors" such as binge eating, driving a car and even engaging in sex(not kidding)without the patients remembering the acts. These meds do have an amnesia like effect so be careful.

The ambien pill is amazing and works. However I can't take melatonin it fucked me up the next day .. like i was dizzy and really super tired. Plus I had bad nightmares.

I used valerian root too...didn't really work well.

I take Unisom 50mg but two pills in order for it to work. Benadryl kinda work sometimes...

ambien CR made me hallucinate and NOT sleepy... but i did the automatic behavior thing... I would take one and like 8 hours later i was missing a pack of smokes... i chain smoked on it! it was crazy...

valerian doesnt work for me, melatonin is scary... its a hormone and i dont think taking a hormone OTC can be good for you! Unisom, benadryl, combo of the two, sleepytime tea.. none of it works for me, lol.. as well as 2 vicodin, 2 flexeril... none of it helps! lol

i hope you guys have better luck than me!

Britt, have you tried OTC Sominex? I used to take the extra strength ones (purple box) and they knocked me out for the whole night.

I wont take sleeping pills im too scared of getting REM rebound effect - which happens because most sleeping pills stop u from entering REM (Rapid eye movement aka dream stage) sleep so when u stop taking them they have the effect of REM-rebound where u have non-stop sometimes very frightening nightmares.

If I really needed to take something, which in my case would be more to stop anxiety and have the bonus side effect of inducing sleep, it wouldbe valium. But I think it can be very addictive - I didnt find it so but I dont seem to find anything addictive
