Default dreams where i can't move

i posted about not being able to sleep or sleep well in a thread about sleeping pills, but when i do fall asleep, lately ive been having the same type of dreams over and over. ive had dreams where i physically can't move, like my arms or legs give out and they're like rubbery and noodle-like, haha, if that makes sense. and then i had a dream where my car was doing the same thing. the wheels spin but the car won't go anywhere, or it moves in a circle. anybody know what this is supposed to mean? its just in my mind a lot lately since i've had so many dreams like this lately.

oh, and most of them are sc related. the car one, i was driving to and from clubs ive worked at, and last night i had a dream that i was walking up the stairs to go on stage and my legs were giving out on me. and then when i got up there, i fell off the stage because i couldnt move myself.

not being able to move in a dream usually symbolizes you feeling like you're held back in some aspect of your life.

I've kinda had a similar dream Britt. Like I'm lying on the couch and I know I'm dreaming but no matter how hard I try I can't move. Then sometimes it starts getting hard for me to breathe and I get scared so I try to move my body to wake myself up. When I finally do wake up, I'm so damn tired that I just fall asleep again and have the same dream. I've also had dreams where I'm running or walking but I'm not moving. I guess I'll just consult my dream dictionary.

That always happens to me!!The scary thing is that when it happens I have my eyes open and I can look around the room, but I cant move or wake myself up.My friends think I am just dreaming and think my eyes are open.I know they are open lol.My therapist says that it can be a symptom of anxiety or stress being carried into my sleep.what we experience is called Sleep paralysis and is related to night terrors.

Sleep paralysis is a completely normal sleep associated event. When you slip into REM sleep and begin dreaming your brain basically paralyzes your body. It's a sort of safety measure to keep from harming yourself through movement while you dream.

Sometime people pop out of REM sleep, even if just for a minute, and there's some recognition/cognitive awareness of the paralysis.

It tends to be more common with sleeping med.

    **Addendum**

Night terrors are a sleep disorder involving abrupt awakening from sleep in a terrified state. They occur during deep sleep, not REM sleep.

Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain is awakened from a REM state into essentially a normal fully awake state, but the bodily paralysis is still occurring.

Sirona ur right. What I meant by saying night terrors and sleep paralysis are related is that people who suffer from one usually suffer from the other.I usually have both on diffferent nights.

when i was a kid, i had recurring nightmares where i would be running away from something bad (this bad thing varied from dream to dream), but instead of being able to run .. my legs felt weighed down. i didn't necessarily feel frozen, just super-slow motion and it scared the bejeesus out of me! I found this at dreammoods.com:

To dream that you are running away from someone, indicates an issue that you are trying to avoid. You are not taking or accepting responsibility for your actions. In particular, if you are running from an attacker or any danger, then it suggests that you are not facing and confronting your fears.

To dream that you are trying to run but cannot make your feet move as fast as you want them to, signifies lack of self-esteem and self-confidence. It may also reflect your actual state of REM paralysis while in the dream state.

that could be true... thats no fun to admit though, haha..

but as for the sleep paralysis, or having my eyes open or anything.. im definately dreaming, and i can move fine when i wake up. it's only in my dream that i cant move.

and it isnt really being frozen, it's like i'm in quicksand, or moving in super slow motion. like my limbs are rubbery and i just cant make them move correctly. i dont know how to describe it. its just freaking me out that im having a bunch of dreams with this theme, and 2 of them have been strip club related.

Ya, I think you're describing the way I felt in my childhood nightmares. IDK .. is something changing at your SC that makes you uncomfortable, or are you trying to find a new club or something?? Maybe you're apprehensive about some issue (or maybe person) at work, and you're working through it in your sleep..

BUT I'M NOT A DOCTOR DON'T TAKE ME TOO SERIOUSLY!! I'm just guessing..

Interesting. It's unusual for adults to suffer from night terrors, especially on a regular basis.

I don't think I've walked in my sleep since childhood, but I've heard some great stories about myself.
My dad said once he awoke bc he thought he heard a burglar or something in the house .. he walks into the kitchen and I'm going through the fridge.. he asks me what I'm doing and I say, "I'm looking for something smart." -- not sure what to make of it
Also, another memorable one.. I have to pee, so I get up and walk to the bathroom and pee..whatever go back to bed. I guess I didn't even open my eyes. So instead of MY version ..SOMEHOW, I managed to get up, walk to the garage and sit in MY seat in the car and pee in it!! WTF?! The next morning, there was a towel in the car, and I didn't know why it was wet. My sister told me what I had done.
Currently my habit is sleep talking, and I do it in spurts. Like (according to my bf), I'll talk every night for a month .. then it just stops. I haven't done it since December he says. I think it happens when I get stressed or something .. always when something's unfinished for me. Or when I've got problems at work.

My ex-boyfriend told me he had a recurring nightmare where he woke up and a witch was sitting on his chest, choking him. He said she didn't have the hat or the broomstick or anything, but he just knew she was a witch. And he couldn't move. He said he always woke up feeling like he really had been choked...so freaky. I think I would wake up crying if someone sat on my chest and choked me in my dreams..
