    Default Foundation or Powder...which is the problem?

    You know when you take a picture and your face is a shade or more lighter than your face? Well one of my recent family photos came out like this I know foundation could be the problem, but could powder also be the culprit of my mismatched face? LOL - I feel retarded! help me

    It could be foundation or powder. Try going to a makeup counter and asking for help with choosing a good foundation. Also, you should have a different foundation for different times of the year because the colour of your skin changes.

    Alright thanks I'm hoping my foundation is still good because I just got the current bottle I have matched to my skin a couple months ago hen I bought it. It has been a hile longer since I changed my powder though....I do think it might be the powder. Thanks again!

    Yeah, due to color changing with the season, I buy 2 sets of base/powder- one that would match me at my lightest and the other that's me at my darkest, then I just mix batches as needed every couple weeks.

    is there any way to tell that you need to adjust the color besides taking a picture of yourself?

    In my experiences it's ALWAYS been the foundation. I don't even wear it anymore. What's the point in wearing something to cover zits that gives you MORE ZITS?

    And my skin looks just fine without it. o.O;

    If you use a foundation, use a pure, transluscent powder. It takes away the shine without adding color.

    Does your foundation or powder have SPF in it? SPF + the flash of a camera whitens the face.

    hmmm....didn't know that cinammon. I think it does have spf. IF this is the problem it's only a camera issue right?

    No, it's only a makeup issue. Changing your makeup to be w/o spf will fix the issue

    ^^She's completely right. SPF will absorb the flash and make your face appear lighter. Make Up For Ever foundations are great for photography.

    I know you haven't indicated that you wear mineral makeup but just an fyi, mineral makeup typically photographs pretty poorly too. I always thought it was the bismuth but maybe not. Anyhow, yeah, your face appears lighter in pics when wearing mmu.

    I haven't tried makeupforever yet but in my own experience, MAC studiofix photographs very well. Some will disagree with me but I like the effect I get. hth

    I do use mineral makeup.... my foundation is prescriptives...it feels nice....this is the first time I've bought it. And I use covergirl loose powder....I think I need to look into getting a different shade though...and I'm sure the spf in the foundation isn't helping.

    LatinaRose....are there any stores you can buy makeupforever foundation at? Or is it something you have to buy online?

    i used to work at a makeup counter. generally, your face has a number of different colors in it and depending on who matches you (or if you do it yourself or whatever), it might match some of your skin tones fine but not others. this is especially true if you are of african or indian descent, though can be true for anyone. the best way to test makeup just to make sure is to see what it looks like on your face, and then see what it looks like on your collarbones (unless you have a ton of sun damage, in which case your shoulders or neck would work just as well).

    prescriptives is good stuff because they match with undertones. you may just need to go a shade up or down. clinique has like a hundred and sixty some shades of foundation too, so they can match a lot of people.

    also, just for reference purposes, the thing in sunscreen that makes a white flash is titanium (di)oxide. they also use it to make white paint!
