Default Getting Your Sleep On Track

So, once again, I've developed a wonky sleep schedule. Even though I have set hours I'll just stay up even though I had a set one that worked but due to moving etc it got fucked up. I have severe sleep problems with insomnia since around the age of 6 so unless I'm drunk or have taken a ton of sleeping pills I'm screwed without a schedule. What do you ladies do to reset it? I usually stay up an entire night and day and I'll be pretty tired the next night and go to bed at the desired time and same with waking up. It's soooooooo hard though. I hate laying in bed for hours without falling asleep.

Well, if you're laying in bed and can't get to sleep, that's just frustrating. When that happens to me I find it's a good idea to do something else for a little while. Things that put me to sleep fairly quickly are reading a book or magazine, taking a super hot/warm bath, getting in a jacuzzi, or writing. If you do the bath/jacuzzi thing it really works because once you get out your body temp goes down pretty quick. I wouldn't recommend the TV or computer though. Those just keep me up waaay too late. Hope this helps!!

Like bunnie said, taking a warm shower or bath is a good idea. Body temp. drops when you start falling asleep so warming up first helps your body get into that mode.

For me, getting myself back into a schedule just takes time. FORCE yourself to get up at the time you need to. That way you'll be really tired at the time you need to fall asleep. Also, having a drink about an hour before you want to sleep helps... You'll be nice and tired when the buzz wears off.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

Ambien. It's the ONLY way I can control my sleep schedule . I've tried everything under the sun and I too have had sleep issues since I was about that age. I didn't sleep a wink last night and I've been up since noon yesterday because I forgot to refill my RX and the pharmacy is closed today. I'd rather takle something and know I will sleep than risk days or possibly weeks of sleeplessness.

I'm off to bed now to just lay there with my eyes closed. Yay.

I'm in the same situation as the OP. Because of work, my sleeping pattern is completely screwed too. It's getting pretty full on with school work so I need to be awake to attend classes and actually absorb something instead of sleeping in every damn day!

My usual pattern is to sleep at 5am and wake up at 3pm. So what I've been doing is to purposely stay awake past my usual 'bedtime' so I'd get sleepy at 9pm or some normal hour like that and sleep through til the morning. But it doesn't work because I automatically wake up at about 2am or so.

Besides sleeping pills, does anyone have any other suggestions?
