    Knives

Okay, I'm in the market for a new set of kitchen knives. (That includes little steak knives for dinner and such.) The set I have now is Farberware and... Well, they aren't very good... Not surprising because I bought them at Ross for like $15 two years ago. I've been doing an online search, but all the recommended ones seem to be over $100. I don't do a lot of entertaining and I like to cook, but I'm no chef! I can't really justify spending THAT much on a set of knives. My ex gave me a set that was super sharp... One of those "as seen on tv" type deals, I think... but he took them when we broke up. I really liked them and I don't think he spent more than $50 on them. Anyone know anything?

I see a lot of knives selling seperately... but I kind of need a block to keep them in! I'm not sure if I could just re-use my old one.

Blocks actually aren't sanitary. You are much better off getting a magnetic strip and a few that you will use (like a paring knife, 8" chef's, and bread if you don't do a lot of cooking).

    I'll go look around...

    Magnetic Strip

I like Wusthof or Henckels Twin series, they are pricey but you get really good quality stuff. The Henckels International line is shit. Pay the extra money and get the ones made in Germany (Henckels Int. is American made).

Have them professionally sharpened. This may make all the difference.

Yeah, what Army said. At a few dollars per knife, you may be delighted at the results. After that, get someone to teach you how to use a honing stick properly so you can maintain a nice edge.

I have that exact same set. Definitely is awesome!

And NEVER let them soak in warm water.

Wusthof and JA Henckels are great blades.

I like Chicago Cutlery...I like the look. Clean them by hand and dry them, then put them away and they'll be plenty sanitary.
