Default customers that get mad at you (rant)

I've had this same scenario over and over, I'm sure all of you have too. I just wanted to share with you this customer from Saturday night. This guy comes up to me while I'm on stage, asks me to come over to his table to dance for one of his clients that he was there to entertain. I said "sure, I'd be happy to" as he's opening his wallet, going through his money to tip me I see him go through the 10's and then 5's and he pulls out a whole dollar and tips me. He asks me what my name is, I tell him and he says "Is that your real name?" I lie and say yes (I tell customers my stage and real name is the same).

Well, needless to say I got busy with other customers that were tipping me a lot more on stage. I always approach the ones that tip me the most first. Well about 30 min later when I was up on the next stage the same guy came up to me while I was on stage and was very ill with me. "I asked you to come over to dance for my clients and you never came, blah, blah, now they're in the back with some other dancer". I apologized and I told him I got busy and couldn't find where he was sitting (which was true) but since I know where he is I can go right now. He then proceeds to tell me "well it's too late now because the dance was for my client and they're with someone else now", all while getting more and more angry with me (this is while I"m getting dressed & about to get off stage). I said to him " I don't appreciate the attitude you're giving me" so then he changes his tone and says "I feel bad about it that they're with someone else" and so I said "that's ok, I'm sure they're having a great time" and I walked off while he was still moving his lips.

I don't understand why customers get so upset like that. I mean first of all if he wanted me that bad then freakin tip me more than a buck for crying out loud! If you want me that bad tip me a 20! So not only does he tip me only a buck while weeding through all the money in his wallet, he asks me if that's my real name! IMO that just had cheapass all over it! That crap drives me crazy customers ask you to come over and dance for them, they either don't tip you or tip you only a $1 and then get all pissed at you because you don't hightail to get over there! Sometimes even just 10 min will go by and they're getting pissed off that you didn't drop what you were doing to immediately go talk to them. Or the ones that start demanding you get off stage right now to dance for them and then say "yeah right" when you tell them you can't just walk off of stage that you have to stay up there for a certain amount of time. Ughhh!!!! ok end of rant. thanks for listening and any comments!

Which is how it works, of course. If guy A tips you a few bucks and guy B tips you a $20, who are you gonna go sit with? I can't believe he thought his dollar would guarantee your time. Oh and the whole going-through-the-wallet-searching for a dollar? Please don't make a big show out of the money you have and then hand over a buck. Yeesh.

Wawawa! What a baby. If they wanted you that badly, the guy should have tipped more than a dollar. If nothing else but to let you know that they are extremely interested in you and wanted you to come over first thing.

And I agree with Balletbaby 100%-if one guy tips you a dollar and another tips you twenty-who are you going to talk to first? That, to me, is a no-brainer. Obviously, if the guy gives you such a generous tip he is very interested in you and is your best bet to go to after your stage set.

I think customers who waste time with stupid questions like what are is your real name are usually time wasters that wont cough up the money anyway. You made a good decision and I think it was professional of you to still be civil towards him when he was rude. I hate those type of custies too who think coz they gave u a dollar u owe them something and should hang around with them.

you should have just smiled, waved the dollar bill at him and been like, 'well... money talks... and george washington doesn't have as much to say as benjamin franklin does!!!'

hehehe. i wouldn't think that one up on the moment, though. you know, you did the right thing... going and banking instead of dealing with a cheapass... yaaaay you

You guys made me laugh!!!! And that's a good comeback that George Washington doesn't talk nearly as loud as Ben Franklin! That's such a good one! I think I'll start a thread on the best comeback lines!

That happened to me too, last night. I got a "come and see me when you're done" from a guy that a bouncer told me had money and would be a great customer. Then i got a $1 and another "come get me when you're done" from a young drunk guy who was making a fool out of himself all night.

I went with the first guy (duh), and ended up doing a CR and getting a $100 tip. Then the drunk guy came up and started yelling at me when I was on the back stage about how I never came back to him. I just looked at him and said "you only tipped me a dollar." So he threw a penny at me. I guess he expected a reaction out of me, but I just laughed. And I laughed even harder when he tried to walk away--and tripped over a chair and did a faceplant on the floor.

It's hard to judge a customer. We learned in DW trianing that every person disburses money differently. You saw he had money in his wallet, he did approach you, AND he did say he wanted you to dance for the client he was entertaining. That tells you he is a business person, and probably has money to spend. Some guys just aren't into stage tipping. it all depends on where they are from and what the club environment is at other clubs they have been to. I have found that more professional guys will take care of you at the table.

A lot of guys get pissed because girls don't approach them, and many say they leave with all their money because of it. Some of these guys get sensitive. 2 of my regulars were in the club at the same time the other week and I got busy. One of them left because he felt I didn't have time for him. I handled it as I've known the guy for several years and he came back 2nights later.

I sorry you lost the guys to another dancer, but what you could do in the future if you don't know where the guy is sitting, is ask him while he is talking to you on stage where his table is, and make sure to get over there immediately after your last song is done.

I agree that you should have gone over to him immediately. Dudes do usually tip ones while you are on stage, and he basically had told you that you would be getting a dance out of it. I am irate when anyone, stripper or not, flakes. You told him you would do something and you didn't follow through.

"Never leave a sure thing." Considering the fact that you literally saw in his wallet that he had cash to spend on a dance, that he wasn't a young drunk guy who'd change his mind as a joke, and that he literally said he wanted to buy a dance for his client pretty much means the sale is closed. (Yes, there's that 5% chance it wont pan out that way) On the other hand, the guy that tips you a $20 on stage... you can assume he has money to spend and would "probably" get a dance from you... but the sale isn't closed.

Maybe this scenario would be more efficient: after you get off stage, go to the guy that said he wanted to buy a dance for his client, and say, thanks so much for tipping me (never mind it was a dollar... a thank you always breaks the ice) and then say I would love to dance for your friend. I have someone else I need to thank for tipping me. I will be back in just a moment. Then hop over to the guy that tipped the $20, thank him, tell him you'd love to talk a bit/hang a bit/dance for him/etc, but that you have to do a dance first and then you'll be back to spend some time with him. If an other dancer approaches him in the mean time, he'll hopefully say "i'm waiting for someone."

This has happened to me a couple of times, and although people can be unpredictable, and it seems to keep both parties happy and both of my options open.

It is true that some guys will give you hundreds while sitting/dancing but won't even bother to come see you on stage or will give a dollar.

When guys come up to see me and are accusing like that I just apologize and say I'll come over now. If his clients were already gone with another girl, then tell him you'll come back when they return to the table. I really don't know why guys get sensitive about it, it's not like you were snubbing him intentionally. Maybe he was disappointed because he thought you were the hottest and he had to settle for a girl who wasn't as hot. That's pretty likely actually.

The thing that can make it very difficult is they'll say "come find me", yeah, like I can do that in the huge crowd, I'm happy if I can remember your face and even better if I can remember your name. I did ask him where he was sitting and he said over there, I tried to get him to clarify it and he said, over there, just come find me and give my client a dance when you have time. So to me it didn't sound like a good prospect, I guess the real kicker (besides getting tipped a dollar on stage) was the fact that he weeded through the rest of his money & searched through it to find a dollar and then asked me if that was my real name. Past experience has taught me that guys that weed though their money & do it so I can see it and then ask me if that's my real name and say "come find me" are 9/10 a time waster. Karma actually worked so much better in my favor anyway that night because shortly after he got all mad about it, I went back to VIP for 2 1/2 hours with this really great customer. He was so pleasant, so fun to be around that it turned out to be a really awesome night. He was even paying me to massage my feet!

Thanks for you advice everyone and for listening to my rant.

omfg ... he had a client! Why didn't you drop everything and hunt for him? That guy seriously needed to entertain an important person. He tipped you a WHOLE DOLLAR; obviously, he meant business. Had you gone over immediately, you might have made 10 dollars. 10 dollars for your act of professionalism and kindness! Instead, you chose a more efficient use of your time to -- oh, yes -- make more money from another customer. You are a terrible stripper for choosing 2.5 VIP hours instead of helping the poor,
    mannerless man impress a client.

    For shame.

I'm thinking that the guy wasn't even considering the dollar a tip, but as just a means of getting attention to ask over the dancer the client wanted. I'm also guessing from his reaction that he was hoping to have the whole event persuade the client that he had some sort of social connection or influence with the club or the area. So, not knowing what to do, he was trying to show that he could get the client's choice over to him immediately and be able to act like he was in command of the situation by being able to say "...and that's her real name".

    Not that it matters.

I just figure you might want that perspective.

What's wrong in telling him that TIP stands for "to insure promptitude" and that a dollar is not much insurance when someone else is giving you 20? You're just skirting the true problem, and he's going to be unhappy with your lie anyways. Maybe he'll realize he was wrong and correct it, especially if you point out he's not going to impress anyone with $1.

I doubt he'll learn, he doesn't think he did anything wrong. Hey, if he wanted me over right then and there, then more than he should've tipped a lot more than a dollar, at least a $20! If he had an important client to impress and wanted to show him that he had the in's with the club then he needs to pay for it! What a dumbass!!! It was funny, when I was walking out of my 2.5 hours of VIP, I saw the guy out walking towards the exit and he saw me and gave me the look, I just kept walking by with my customer while holding his hand. Haha!!

Just think, you could have gotten a couple of 20 dollar dances AND that VIP if you hadn't been so stuck up about only getting a dollar on stage.

He doesn't think he did anything wrong because he didn't do anything wrong. In my not so humble opinion, you made a bad business decision because of your pride.

That guy shouldn't have even come up to you to argue if there wasn't an obvious solution to his problem. So, he paid another dancer to entertain his client. He should have ended it there.

    off track but...
i think its hilarious, and not in a good way, when the guy is rifling through his money roll of 5,10,20,50s and having difficulty cuz he cant find that 1 single he has mixed in there some where.... and its even worse when he cant find it and finally results in asking you to break a 5, then proceeds to say, "just give me three back" and winks...AHAHHAAH ass holes

Umm, I have to disagree with you. What if I had gone over there and gotten a dance or two and by the time I went up to the customer that had tipped me well he could've been in VIP with someone else? I could've potentially lost out on 2.5 hours at $300/hr for maybe $20! IMO, I made a very wise business decision. And it had nothing to do with pride, it had to do with going to the prospects to maximize my earning potential in the shortest amount of time. If he had been the ONLY prospect then I would've gone over there immediately. Think about it, if I had gone over there, I most likely would've had to sit down and chat them up for a few minutes, then danced then gotten dressed which could've 15-20 worth of time and by then the VIP customer was already taken.

He might not necessarily done anything wrong per se, however, he did not act in a manner that was going to get me flying over there when I had better prospects around. The only thing he did do wrong was confront me in such a hostile manner!

i have a fake real name too.

my stage name is ruby. when people ask what my real name is, i tell them it's ashley. that's not true either, but nobody pushes it farther than that, and since i'm telling everyone the fake real name it doesn't really cause any problems for me.
