Default a job where a former dancer could do well

I've been thinking what I'd do after I stop dancing. I have a degree in the field where I don't want to be so I'd have to go back to school to study something else. What do you girls plan on doing after you retire from dancing? I wonder what occupations would be good where you could also be self-employed or at least not too dependent on your boss's supervision (I hate to be told what to do!). Also, I used to work in the corporate environment and just hate all the politics there. I just want to do my job, be responsible for the outcome myself and go home. Besides, don't you agree sometimes it's difficult for a good-looking woman to be treated as an equal in a corporate invironment? I just hate this "oh, she is just a blond with boobs" attitude. I've considered such occupations as a nurse, accountant, financial planner, real estate agent. Also, when I asked advisers at colleges about what career opportunities are better for me, I'd usually get "you can do whatever you want" or "what is it exactly that you want to do?" The thing of the matter is I don't really know what jobs would be better for me and would like to find out where I can learn about pros and cons of certain occupations. www.bls.gov can give you some info, I'd like advice from people in the industry. Where can you apply yourself without being descriminated for being a bosomy blond? Thank you.

Well there are other industry related jobs for ex-dancers such as dancer intructors - i know a few retired dancers who are teaching pole dancing and/or exotic dancing at clubs or at private dance studios.

If you want to totally get away from the whole industry then personal training is often attractive in a similar way that dancing is - set your own hours, build clients, make fairly good money and you are your own boss.

Ohhh my god i just applied for a job on craigslist that has nothing to do with dancing but EVERYTHING to do with my undergraduate, completely useless liberal arts thesis (hint... it involves comics). it's sure as hell not going to pay much (if they interview me and if i get it) but it's amazing that i have the liberty to think about such a rad underpaying job because of dancing. (edit: i just saw that you aren't interested in working with your degree... but maybe if you can get another job in a field you're interested in exploring you can gain the experience to advance without a degree.)

so i guess what i'm trying to say is since you're still dancing, why don't you look into part time jobs in these fields? part time so you can still somehow get 3 nights a week in or something. figure out if it's a field that you could see yourself in for the mental stimulation. if i could get this job and somehow get from 'assistant' to 'not-assistant', i would probably quit dancing/go down to 1 night a week.

    Business Owner. Investor.

Hopefully never an employee ever again! LM gave me a good idea tho as I do have receptionist skills and am forever being told how much of a nice telephone voice I have when I am being professional and answering the phone like a professional.

Yeah this girl totally books my friend for 8-10 hours a day... her job is just to set the bookings and stay by the phone and schedule ONE girl.... $50 an hour for each hour the prozzie has booked is her income!

When my friend told me that's how much she paid her receptionist... man... I want that job when I wanna be on my lazy ass not movin'.

The old singer for the last band I played in used to answer phones for call girls. She made shitloads! It was only 16 hour shifts though and she had to remember which voice to use for which phone which was sorta funny.

Hmm, I have no idea what I shall do next. I was thinking of going into Hypnotherepy or personal training type stuff but I shall just wait and see what happens and what I feel like in a couple of years.

No idea and that scared me! I already have a degree in which the pay is good but I absolutely hate it!!! That's why I started dancing at 30. My hope (for now) is to keep dancing, make enough money and invest it and retire early or something like that. My accountant is going to get me in touch with a financial advisor. It's funny, now that I'm dancing and making 2-4 times the money I did in my day job, I'm so much more frugal about my money than I was then. You'd think since I have so much more cash to blow that I'd spend it like crazy but it's the opposite!

A trophy wife isn't really different than an escort.

Except its a more honest exchange and the escort doesn't have to wash dishes or have kids....

    I am in....haha

Ima teach special education with cute little elementary school kiddos!

Really, unless you're working from home, you're probably going to face discrimination for what you look like. Have you taken something like the MBTI? It might help you figure out what you'd like to do.

yes, i did take mbti. It shows i'd be a good teacher, and that's what my degree is in teaching. I am not sure I would want to work at school again, plus, with my stripping job, it might be difficult to get hired as a teacher again. If I lied about stripping and they found out, I'd be in trouble! Plus, I am a terrible lier.

If I wasn't set on being in the automotive field, I think it would be neat to teach music. Even be the instructor/choreographer for high school marching bands. Writing marching drill would be awesome. I remember my band teacher when I was in marching band in HS; seemd really fun.

How about buying your own strip club? Would be a funny way to stay in the business as you got older. Smart owners make a lot of money with clubs in the right areas these days.

I don't understand wanting to be a trophy wife. You work your ass off to make all the money you can and for what? To mooch off someone else? What was the point in the first 10 years then?

I just quit dancing, and have been working in construction for about a year now. I also have an ebay store, I answer phones for a strip-o-gram agency and I just started selling sex toys at home parties.

If I get bored with one, I start pursuing the others.

Sales is a field that any good dancer would do well in after retiring from the "biz."

WORD .. although I am currently pursuing a degree in Pharmacy w/ a minor in biotechnology .. I kinda want to work in research/development at a pharm company or maybe at CDC .. IDK, I'd still like this job to be 'voluntary', like I've got my billionaire at home (or out doing what billionaires do), so the job would just be my hobby!!
